  1. Maryville 31 Alcoa 2. Blew them off the ball all night. It wouldn't be close if they played again. Alcoa was better than Fulton last year but I thought Fulton looked more formidable than Alcoa this year, even without the Fulton Mr. Football running back, they scored double the points Alcoa did at state, mercy ruled their opponent and the Falcon D forced 5 turnovers. They were in the top 4 or 5 nationally in points scored this year with around 850 or so. But the Falcon D is what got my attention and I think they could hinder Alcoa's running game like Maryville did. Alcoa was one dimensional and needed long drives to score. Fulton could score on any play and I saw their D create scoring opportunities. UT really needs to look at the Hawkins kid! Blazing speed and great hands. This Alcoa team was nowhere near their best squad in my opinion whereas this was Fulton's best squad. I think Alcoa will be stronger next few years.
  2. No vote was solicited or needed or can take any of those 666 points out of the record book. They could have scored over 700 if they'd wanted to. You are entitled to an opinion and debate it with one another or whatever you want. It won't change the fact that the 2013 Rebels broke the scoring record at Maryville High School and did what NO other offense had ever done (it's comical thinking back how several doubted them prior to the season, particularly at QB). The dogs were called off early and often. The bar was raised this year and those points were earned and it will be recorded as such. Them chains were moved more this year than any year at MHS.
  3. Like coachspanky, who hung with us for a while at the game, we got in free too. We wanted to see a real game but had no illusions of that happening and knew Blackman was our State (BTW Bowling Green won state in KY/44 game win streak). The 6A game went exactly as anyone who knows anything about football thought it would and became the most lopsided title game we've had and that is hard to sit through when its so frigid. Heck, Taylor Swift didn't even show up to support her H.S. after making millions writing songs about how every boy there did her wrong haha...Commandos were wading in the deep part of the pool and sunk. Finally great to see Garrett get his props. A baby faced killa and on every level coming up has played like he did this year. The most cool and calm qb Maryville has ever had. Check out the first scoring play, two blocks were missed, he backpedals 10 yards and it looks for certain he'll take a sack as he's under duress and then he does his thing, works his magic, stays calm, hits Prevo and turns a broken play into a 50 yard score. That play epitomizes John Garret. He made this team go all year, when a play would break down he improvised and his numbers are as good as any D1 prospect. A point guard of the grid iron! 2013 will go down as the best offense ever, mostly due to the big three of Garrett, Prevo and Carroll. They did it on every level and were great competitors. They were going to get theirs, not in a selfish way but they were showtime all the time. With some players, if they were on the field, it was automatic you knew the job was going to be done and going to be done with an exclamation point without all the rah rah crap. #55 was one of those players. Mr., you played like a man this year. I wish #60 could have been healthy to go out bulldozing the defense beside you and fans had got to see that kind of domination the whole season. A great year. As far as best defense, the 2011 class set that bar so high that future classes will have to aim for that level of perfection. Those players/men played unlike any other to date. Men. Maryville was long overdue to get an easy team as an opponent for state after who they played this year and all other years in 6A. Really great to see my buddy Stokes I grew up with from Fulton and his son go out as a State Champion also. Time to move on to bigger and better things.
  4. This Falcon/Rebel Player Dad will be driving down early, bundling up and supporting my old homies and their boys on the field from Broadway. They better be playing "Falcon Clap" on the loud speakers too haha....
  5. "Falcon clap" is a pretty darn good promo too that I saw from one of my Fulton fb friends. It's on youtube I think, if anyone else has seen it.
  6. Go Falcons, Go Rebels today. Going to watch both play. Represent.
  7. Correction on win losses: Station was a 2 loss team in our first year moving up (that Maryville team overachieved to get there), Smyrna was a 1 loss team to Ensworth and both Haven teams Undefeated. Commando's are the only 3 loss team. Will it matter? Probably not. The talk earlier just came across as bold and unearned. I want to see a close game, tough game, the people I sit with want to see a good competition and have wanted to see that all year. Bradley Central played Maryville for one half of ball then Maryville made some changes and took off in the 2nd half and left them behind. Blackman played us for a whole game and was the type of team we typically see in the Finals and what they accomplished this year is well documented. (lots of smack talk from their fan base, you can look up for yourself as it was all over Twitter before the game) We are hoping for another good competition like Blackman. Those games are worth watching. If we have to sit in the cold, rain and snow for a game, I personally want it to be a good game. Good luck to the seniors. A pretty special group every year you have played. I want to add a congratulations to our local teams Webb, Alcoa and West (man you guys let that one slip like Powell did a couple years ago. Was pulling for you.) Looking forward to seeing some of my old friends from Fulton tonight celebrating tonight also. Operation kick your A in effect. haha...
  8. The condensed version: what he said, ain't likely.
  9. They think they will be playing a "good" team when in truth 2013 Maryville is a great team. Big difference. The defense last year was one of the weakest ever, not this year. Not Dodson or anybody else would run through this D like last year. Last year's offense was the highest scoring Maryville offense ever but this year's O has scored more points. The numbers are staggering. Few people have even mentioned being concerned about our QB when his numbers, not to mention his leadership, is as good if not better than any other QB in the state. It would be interesting to compare his stats to a bunch of the D1 prospects or "Mr. Football" candidates. If anyone deserved a Mr. Football award for what they EARNED on the field, not how tall they were, or what they weighed or how many camps they went to, it is him. There is not a better leader or competitor playing at state all of this week on any team. He has been Maryville's MVP all year. Teams trying to rattle him have failed. He's over 2000 yards passing, around 1000 yards rushing, with only 1 interception and when a big play was needed he always delivered. He will rip your heart out methodically play by play and get the win. A baby faced killa.... This team has a good memory and a lot of these players, their friends, siblings etc. got hosed last year. If anybody thinks anyone has forgotten, tune in tomorrow. No team had scored a single touchdown on Blackmans starters in these playoffs. They had a 10 sack DE, which is about 8 more sacks than our best DE's total, teamed with the strongest and quickest linebackers around and with GRITTY disciplined linemen. Yet, Maryville scored 4 TD's on them. The Kentucky team that got them by 1 point is undefeated still and has been for 40+ games and is playing for a State Title tomorrow and looking to keep the #8 ranking for nations longest winning streak. Tomorrow has been a long time in the making for a focused Maryville squad.
  10. "Hendersonville fans and the team expect to beat Maryville and would consider it an upset if Maryville won?" LMAO, no they don't. They are the only team that has ever made it into the 6A Finals against Maryville that was not undefeated. They have 3 losses this year. This isn't being disrespectful it is their win/loss record this year. Webb, Alcoa, West are all in the finals and it didn't fare well for any of them against The Rebels. 2009 White Station, 2010 Smyrna, 2011 Haven, 2012 Haven were all undefeated going into state and all lost except last year and that game went into OT and most people recognize the game was won in regulation. The Semi Final teams of Siegal last year, Blackman this year and previously unbeaten Quarter Final Oakland this year, at one point, had very valid reasons for making such a bold statement as they had earned it at that given point in the season. Hendersonville may play a great ballgame, maybe they are better than all of the undefeated 6A opponents Maryville has ever played at State or the teams we defeated getting to State. Cool. It's state, its the Big Boy classification and it's supposed to be hard, competitive. They may play the best they've ever played but so did the teams mentioned above, none of which were 3 loss teams, moreover a 4 loss team if they loose at state. Earn it, then you can talk about it. Easier said than done.
  11. Thank you. I looked at his highlight film as we are going to make a disk for him to keep. Injuries had him sidelined most of the games. Combining all of the snaps that he was actually playing on the field, he only played 2.5 games total this season. In 2.5 games or 10 quarters of football he had 21 knockdown domination blocks and he never played at 100% this year. That is what I'm most proud of... It's hard for an O lineman to do that when playing a full season. Every opportunity that he got, he was physical and made the most of it. Most of those were recorded so it will make a nice memory. We knew he wouldn't line up against anyone stronger than him due to his training. It would have been nice to see him healthy and physical for a whole season and how it would have helped the team. GQ always says don't let this be the most important thing in your life and while it was a huge commitment it isn't the most important. ie he has an orchestra concert tonight as a violoist, got accepted into The University of Tennessee's College of Engineering for next fall. A lot of life lessons from all of this for sure that will help in life. The team should be fine at State.
  12. X Rays and Doc say no go... it will do significant further damage if he dresses and will fracture. Can't get on toes at all right now. 4 weeks to heal and in a boot.
  13. Recent points in playoffs when Maryville played in the cold or rain. Hung 49 on Mo East. 42 on Bradley Central. Hung 56 on Sevier County. Lots of passing yards. Balanced attack. Weather made no difference at all.

GQ said individually, they were better than us at a lot of places and it would be hard to beat them several times unlike beating them once in a championship game. He said we had trouble moving it and had to use double passes and brought all of our plays out to win. It looked like that was what we had to do again v Blackman's D. As good as Haven's 2011Defense was.... (I'd rank them 1st and Blackman's defense a close 2nd in best defenses we have played against) Maryville's 2011 defense was hands down better than both and our 2013 offense has shown to be the best Maryville scoring offense. Turn overs and penalties are about the same with Maryville only being penalized for 20/24 yards in both games and Haven/Blackman penalized for 77/63 yards. Discipline and composure is huge in these big games. The two bad punts for Haven are basically the same as a turnover. Particularly, the negative yard punt, followed by another one we scored off from and the 1 int in the red zone, compared to the 3 int's for Blackman, one also in the red zone, coupled with all of those yards lost in penalties were too big to overcome. Blackman Maryville 1st Downs 19 18 rushes-yards 39-227 35-158 passing 121 176 comp-att-int 8-24-3 17-19-0 punts 2-35.5 3-40.6 fumbles-lost 3-0 1-0 penalties-yards 11-63 4-24
  15. You're right... On top of the year round commitment; he gave an ACL, hamstring, hand and ankle for the team. Nobody notices an O lineman until they miss a block... It's easy to see one when a sack takes place, or a running back gets blasted behind the line of scrimmage several times like Friday, lol. When Prevo hurdled the BC player, as usual, we were amazed with the freakish ability. And it is amazing how many times he has leaped over players. How many people noticed the pulling lineman #60 on that play that laid a wicked knockdown block to set up that move and score? None, lol. It's just the nature of the position and it requires players who could care less about interviews and accolades but take pride in the work they put in year round to have the strength and agility to dominate the man in front of them..
