  1. Bad jumping and landing will weaken the ligaments in the knee and can lead to an ACL tear. Girls hip to knee ratio can naturally leads to valgus collapse (knees pointed in toward each other). Thank God my daughter worked with a PT who used technology to give her exercises to correct the valgus collapse. She had to relearn how to jump and land properly. It was hard at the age of 16 for my daughter to relearn this. If girls were taught at the age of 10 or so how to jump and land properly, then they would not create bad habits.

  3. 4:30 Centennial vs Brentwood 6:00 Ravenwood vs Franklin 7:30 Winner 4:30 vs Winner 6:00 (Championship)(These 2 teams advance to Region which should be on this district champion home court next week, which has historically been on Tuesday.)
  4. Siegel has 2 DI commits, Liz Bossong (L) and Asha Phillips 6 rotational (OH). Leah Poarch (OH) is also a Prepvolleyball player to watch. Katelyn Lester (MH) will be tough. Their setter is left-handed, Kristin Demonbreun (sp?). Franklin setter, Breanna Carlton, (not left-handed) is a very good setter and will make her hitters even better.
  5. Page could be in the mix, but injuries are not helping them.

  8. Centennial went 2-1 for the day. Beat Lenoir City and Anderson County. Lost to Hillcrest.
  9. Centennial beat Lenoir City in 2
  10. Nikki Armstrong was the Independence coach last year. I do not think she is coaching school ball. She is the assistant director at Club West Nashville.
  11. Brentwood and Siegel definitely look the best. Wasn't the Siegel coach an assistant at Brentwood several years ago? Both of these teams have great setters who do a great job of making great hitters look even better. If Ravenwood and Centennial can bring their young setters along throughout the season, then both teams should be more consistent, but it will still be tough to compete with Brentwood and Siegel. Blackman's setter is really good with a tall middle who can block, hit, and pass. This team did have another middle who was on crutches and did not play.
  12. I found this article about this topic a while back. http://www.collegevolleyballcoach.com/2010/09/to-play-or-not-to-play-high-school.html
  13. Do not underestimate Hume Fogg. They have tall athletic hitters. Setter is very smart and athletic too.

  15. If 2 teams have the same district record and split matches against each other, how is the tie broken from there?

  18. I have seen Page play recently. They are not as strong as they have been, but they still have several good players. Since they lost some good hitters and leaders from last year's team, they are trying to have their all-district all-region setter from last year hit from the outside some. She is 5'11", and they need her hitting. They have some 6 footers in the middle who are getting better. I would expect them to come on stronger as the season progresses.
  19. Jerry's 16 club team last year had several players from Siegel, at least 1 from Ravenwood, and at least 1 from Centennial. I think there was one from Franklin, plus TSSAA rules do not allow high school coach to coach a player in club who plays for them in high school.
  20. Boys Volleyball is a GO! Ethos VBC will have a Boys indoor team for the very 1st time this coming year. All those interested should attend the Informational Meeting on Sunday, September 15th. Time & location to be announced. Go ahead and start spreading the word – boys volleyball is coming to Nashville! http://www.ethosvolleyball.com/
  21. Not meant to be a comprehensive analysis, but I am sharing just what I have seen/heard in play days and 1st week of the season. It would be great to get others' take on the mid-state. Here is my summary of the mid-state: AAA Riverdale, Blackman, and Siegel will be strong in their district. Siegel looks to be the strongest, but rivalries can be an equalizer. In 11-AAA, Ravenwood and Brentwood look to be frontrunners since they played in the state championship last year, and neither team lost much due to graduation. Centennial, who lost to Ravenwood by a couple of points in 5 sets in district tourney last year, should be tough in that district too with a good core of last year's team back and adding some up-and-comers. AA Hume-Fogg looks like they will be tough this year. They have height and are athletic. They have hopes of avenging a sub state loss at Page last year. CPA and Page are now in the same district, but their district does not have many schools that have volleyball teams, and the ones that do are not very good. Both of these schools should at least get to regionals and sub state. A Goodpasture won AA state championship last year. They are A this year with a veteran team and look to be very tough for A teams to beat. I have not seen Loretto play this year, but they have beaten Nashville Christian the last 2 years in the sub state, so I would guess both of these teams could be in the mix.
