I would argue the ‘20 and ‘21 teams had more overall weapons and better QB play. Last year’s team very similar to this year. This team is pretty one-dimensional and if they see a team with a “dude” or two, they’d be pretty easy to scheme up. Bruins just didn’t have that dude this year.

From the times I've watched JCS this year, they do seem to be too reliant on Mosley at times. They also have to stop finding a way to hit the home run ball on situations where the home run ball isn't needed. On plays that are 3rd and long for them, they want to find a way to throw the ball 30 yards down the field, and not 7-9 yards and get the first down that way. I like this JCS team, but they can certainly be more efficient than what they are.

What is qausi racist? Inner city schools being undisciplined with terrible coaching, you could argue the same about smaller rural schools like copperhill,Sunbright, Pickett county, or Hancock County. Just because someone says something negative about an area that is majority black doesn't automatically make it racist. People are allowed to constructively criticized without it being racially related, it's an absolute fact that 9/10 its down to discipline and coaching examples being most inner city memphis schools, Howard, Austin east, Maplewood, etc.  Rural schools like I listed fall under the same bill,  they are from poor impoverished areas with little to no money to put into the programs, rural poverty is just as bad if not worse than what is seen in inner city, it's just less violent.

There are more legit reasons why than just "undisciplined." Do I believe that inner city black schools get the "undisciplined" talk more than white schools, yes. I'm going to use Upperman as an example. I don't know Upperman's demographics when it comes to race, and I really don't care. However, if they get called for 5 false start penalties, no one would care. If Melrose commits the same 5 false start penalties, then the "undisciplined" word is coming out. That's my opinion, please respect that. But for someone who lives in West Tennessee, it's a pet peeve trend of mine. It's something I just notice. However, that's not the purpose for this thread.

Covid is still had an effect on these teams. Remember, Memphis inner city schools didn't play during the Covid year. Really you had freshman playing one year, didn't play their sophomore, most importantly, they didn't practice either and develop, then they're playing as Juniors. Only private schools and teams in Region 8-6A played. In 2017-2019, Whitehaven went 32-9 with two semifinals appearances and a state championship game in 2018. In 2021-2023, they are at 15-10, with a playoff loss. They're also in a tougher region, but the "dominance" isn't there. You can blame Covid for that.

Coaching staffs are important, but also the assistant staffs are as well. I don't believe the coaching staffs as a whole, are as good as they were. We have also seen coaches from Memphis move on to the collegiate level as well, Anthony Jones is an example.

I don't know what the school system is doing when it comes to facilities upgrades. They did put turf down on several stadiums. However, I'm referring to weight room equipment, practice equipment, jerseys and shoulder pads that are up to today's standards, etc. Not all teams play at their actual school, so do they have a good practice field to practice on? Who knows.

You can make the argument there maybe too many schools in Memphis. They added charter schools like MASE. Those players would be playing for regular public high schools if they weren't to exist. Same thing about PURE Youth Alliance, which was added during the 2020 season so they can play football while all the other schools can't play (University of Memphis' backup QB, Tevin Carter, played for them).

You can't blame it on one specific part, because there are several reasons why. Regardless, Memphis needs several dominating programs to create balance throughout the city. Which is tough because that city specializes in basketball.

2-1 south side comes to Crockett this Friday to take on 3-0 cavaliers, my question is have they found something that’s clicking since the ripley game? I believe between the 2 teams we’ve played a tougher 3 game then they have there wins come from liberty and jcm, I believe Crockett wins by 3-4 scores

Don't let the 2-1 record that South Side has, fool you. Liberty has been a disaster to start out the season and JCM is not a good team right now.

The only problem is, we don't know how good Crockett County is either. North Side is still not very good. Lexington has been probably the biggest disappointment of all West Tennessee teams thus far. Not buying into Ripley, and I'm sure many people are either.

Crockett County will win this game, somewhere around 35-7.

Streamed  the Oakland game against CG , not just one call the volume of penalties. My question is how do you make other out of state officiating accountable? The game you mention Oakland-LA , TSSAA can address. My point is I love seeing the big national games for TN teams but how do you make crews accountable?

I think that'll have to be address with the local association that assigned that specific game. You may have a "all star crew" for that game, but I don't think the local association (seems like it'll be out of Mobile) needs to treat it much bigger than what it is.

If Saraland were to come to Nashville and play LA, and the TSSAA crew happens to screw up a call, then those respected refs will be held accountable by the TSSAA. That's my opinion.

  5. This game will be at Liberty. JCM had two years of "development" and the school system has yet broke ground on building a new stadium for them. If Camden doesn't slow down on offense, they should be able to score in the 30's with east. I like them to win, I'm not going to say the score specifically because of Camden's defense. This game could very well approach the 80's, won't be surprised if they hit 100 combined.

Don’t take this the wrong way but I kinda giggled when I read the Camden part. No way Camden hangs with Peabody or Adamsville!

    Not this season anyways.

Yeah I agree, lol. Need to at least give Camden some love for scoring 100 in two games, just gave up 100, too.

I don't know about if both Ganaways are still playing D1. I know one of them is at UT, but you might want to check about Mr. Football. Everybody is naming the skill guys which I get, but I don't think any of them have made there respective college football teams travel squad yet. I believe Dickson has with Army, but everyone else has not. Two of the lineman from last year are having great camps and I believe both of them are making there travel squads from day one. If you know anything about college football you haven't really arrived on the team unless you make the travel squad. All you are is a practice body until you make the travel squad. The average fan didn't know how good Peabody had it with the boys up front the last few years, and how well prepared Coach Driggers had those guys day in and day out.

Glad to know this guy can understand the landscape of college football! Travel part consists around 70 players. Starters and backup's are obviously the ones to go, and special teams can go as well. Yes, you can still be apart of the travel squad if you are on the kickoff team, maybe the 2nd string in that spot as well.

3 things are hurting Peabody right now.

    1) It's no secret, graduation

    2) No offense to the Peabody faithful, but it appears none of these players are going to be at the top like Driggers, Dickson, Gallaway, etc. Not saying they can't be, but as of now, they're not. However, I've watched Peabody developmental teams in the previous years, and this is not a surprised to me.

    3) They're not in 1A anymore. They're not playing Liberty, Obion Central, or South Side anymore in non-region games. They're not playing Halls, Humboldt, Lake County, Greenfield, and West Carroll anymore. When you combine 1 and 2, with the schedule of Milan, JCS, Huntingdon, Riverside, USJ, and Adamsville, you're going to struggle. It's just reality. Region 7-2A has programs, Region 7-1A are just teams.

The game against Adamsville is a huge game. However, don't forget Camden right now. Lions have scored 103 points right now. However, they've allowed 102. But the ability to score is something in itself that will help! Winning games 17-14 and relying on defense is not a sustainable way to be successful.

I am not going to lie with USJ's coaching staff last year this game would have been close, but with the coaching change and what I have seen so far it will be Bruins by 20+.

You got to be able to score 20 first before you beat a team by 20+. Even one of your fans didn't think they can beat Union City last week, but I did and I'm not a USJ guy.

Ensworth is going to beat Union City pretty handily. USJ will watch that film and will take care of Union City as well. Union City will start 0-2.

Methinks the Rebels will bring it big time Friday night. Getting revenge after a bad loss is a huge motivator, & McKenzie has a history & record that they will want to avenge. Wouldn't want to be the Eagles in this game. Just my view anyways.

You can make the argument about Chester County, a team that is 0-2, had leads in both games and TCA and Milan, but couldn't hold on.

  11. I didn't find this out until last night. Players cannot be outside to practice if the heat index is 105 and higher. However, they can be outside to play a game if the heat index is 105 and higher. Needless to say, teams didn't have to push back their start times to 7:30/8 PM locally to accommodate the heat. However, they elected to do so, which is fine.

Since there is no "rule" regarding to heat index for games/competitions, Harding Academy should 100% be able to pay a fine to West Carroll for cancelling that game. The players that play football for West Carroll are the victims here. The 2024 return game should be in Atwood, and not on Park Avenue in Memphis.

However, as what @ReitzFan said, Covid played a role in increasing cancellations. How many games in 2021 was cancelled due to "covid"? In reality, one team didn't want to travel just to get beat by 30+, so they were able to use the covid excuse to get out of the game with no penalty.

Northpointe is a decent team but nothing special. And Peabody is not very good. I think JCS has a good team but doesn’t have a big win yet. When do they play USJ?  I remember last year people were saying how good JCS was and should be ranked higher only to get curb stomped by the Bruins.

I think 1-5 are head and shoulders above the rest in West TN and 6-12 there isn’t a lot of difference. JCS keeps winning they will move up.

I agree with Peabody not being very good. However, the 47-7 was a little surprising to me, and the way Peabody let JCS dominate them in the first half. They play USJ in two weeks, and I may have to lean with JCS right now because they have firepower offensively. I know USJ is good defensively, but they have to find a way to score 30 on JCS. Peabody is know both JCS and USJ's common opponent. JCS has a fairly good Goodpasture team coming up.

  13. Does JCS have to beat the Georgia Bulldogs to be in the top 10?

Overall, I think it's a good solid list! Teams 1-7 are the same, but I will rotate some areas. To me, I'll slot JCS at 8, Covington at 9, and Dresden at 10.

Basketball has started early in Camden. I just hope the Liberty players can keep fighting. I feel for those kids! I believe it was @ManOfMillionsthat said it best. The preseason hype of these teams are starting to wear down, and now, we're seeing separation between teams right now.

Harding Academy-West Carroll has been cancelled. Not sure why but I'm guessing it was on Harding Academys part because our Jr High is playing Gleason right now.

Really surprised y'all scheduled Harding Academy to begin with. The "return game" should be in Atwood.

Just realized Harding Academy is scheduled to go to Humboldt next week. They'll also make two trips into Jackson next year.

The majority of coaches never change their philosophy with their offense. They believe in what they run and will take it with them wherever they go. That’s just the way it is. They either win with it or lose with it, but will never change. Don’t think there being stubborn, it’s just what they know and believe in. But when you run into a defensive coordinator that knows how to stop these type offenses, then your in trouble with a small play book. It works fine, till it dont.

And the last thing a team with a small playbook can do is get caught by tipping. Very easily to do the further along into the season.

Last 20 years the Mustangs have won 191 games losing 61 with that one dimension offense. I love running the ball and I think most Huntingdon fans do also. I wonder if anyone in west tennesse can match those 20 year totals.

In those 20 years, how many Huntingdon teams had a "passing/pro style" teams (in terms of players and their skillset) but elect to run the football because they're "Huntingdon."

Milan should not be number 2 and I am the biggest Milan homer on this board. We are a top 10 team but the lower half of the top 10. I agree on number 1.

Branding matters my friend. These voters may not see the "on field" performance, which I agree with your statement. All they see is name "Milan."
