It's just going to be a waste of a year for Humboldt in 2018. It's too late for the Vikings to find someone and believe in them. However, Humboldt people (school district primarily) should go out and look at the 2018 season and explore assistant coaches that could be a possible suitor to be a head coach for Humboldt in 2019. In addition to that, Humboldt probably should open up the checkbook even more, so they can bring their football program back. Needless to say, there's nothing that's appealing about Humboldt football now, and the future.

100% agree. I do think Hardin County is an amazing job to get, they have an amazing fan base and support from all of their school activities. I am curious to see who gets it. 

Nowell is 70 and was told that if wanted the job, he needs to stay for a long period of time (which I would assume 5+ years) and rebuild Humboldt football, which turned Norwell away. This is a community that does not care about any of their sports except basketball. Milan is a football town, well Humboldt is a basketball town. Yes, this is a Humboldt team that should be making deep playoff runs, especially since Union Coty and Peabody are 2A, but they also don’t have talent. I will also say this about Humboldt, the players that made it to the college ranks in the past, they struggled to stay in college, which to me, puts a bad light into Humboldt. 

Having the person that hired you leave to go to a new position just weeks after you were hired, is a uncomfortable situation. I don’t blame Norwell at all for realizing that his alma mater, is in rough times, and it’ll take more than himself to build it back up, and he realized he can’t do it. I have no earthly idea where Humboldt goes from here, I just don’t.

Wait, is Adderall (sorry if I misspelled it) is out? Other than the travel and not having the luxury of playing home games on school property, is this one of the most intriguing job openings in the state.

Yeah, so AA teams out of Memphis are not good at baseball, and have a history of being historically bad. I don't know who Covington played, it was the runner up of 16AA, but the Chargers won, and I would believed they won completely fine. Covington plays Haywood on Wednesday, the Chargers won all 3 matchups (2 in the regular season and 1 in the district tournament) against Haywood. So, whoever wins on Wednesday between McNairy Central and Riverside, would have a very good chance to reach the state tournament. I believe Covington will go once again, they have amazing talent. To me, I believe there is a pretty good drop off between Covington and Haywood County, that's just me.

I have no idea who Covington played last night, it probably was a forfeit because I can't find out who they played last night.

Did Milan did a research for the girls coaching job? Or, did they just give the job to Dancy. I am okay with seeing this at Lake County, South Fulton, Bruceton, and Clarksburg (schools with small population) but I am not really okay seeing this at Milan, a AA school that can go get a girls coach and not be lazy.

If you go back to the first page, I predicted Riverside 2nd and McNairy Central 3rd, so I'll take that. However, I am an idiot for predicting Chester County 7th, I got that miserably wrong. However, congratulations to McNairy Central for advancing to regionals in softball, baseball, and defeating North Side in soccer. All three spring sports made it to regionals. 

Now, I believe Riverside and South Gibson will be a better baseball game than Westview and McNairy Central. I like South Gibson and McNairy Central to advance, but I also like South Gibson and Covington to made it to state.

True but it is also great for the kid. One of arguably hundreds of 8th graders who have been offered as an 8th grader. It puts a target on his back, but it also puts target on Westview, who has not been a good football team for the last two seasons. I believe the Westview players will treat him with great amount of respect. However, the opponents that Westview will play this fall understand that this kid, isn't just a normal 14 year old freshman. I wonder if Coach Simpson over at UTM had any thought of telling D-1 programs to hold off the offers, but I doubt he did. However, I believe the kid will be fine.

Don't like the fact that a 8th grader has an offer from Michigan and Kentucky without taking a high school snap on a Friday night. Putting a whole lot of pressure on a 14 year old kid. First of all, can you imagine the QB for Westview that is projecting to start at Quarterback in the fall, but will more than likely will not be the starting QB because there is a kid that hasn't played a snap at Westview yet.

Does the kid play baseball? I would think a kid that is 6'1 can be very efficient baseball player, assuming he pitches. Yes, baseball has injuries but none of them are head/brain/CTE injuries, more arm injuries. And you get paid a little bit more in baseball than you do in football. Just saying

Unfortunately, nothing is final just yet. I believe the weather has postponed the games between McNairy Central and Lexington, and Riverside and South Side. McNairy Central, Lexington, and Riverside all have to play to determine seedings in the tournament.

Now, Adamsville will play at Chester County and North Side will play at Scotts Hill. Those two games will happen on Thursday. Chester County obviously getting to host the whole district.

I thought run differential was determined the tiebreaker. For an example, McNairy Central split with Scotts Hill, 5-2 and 3-5. Yes, both teams won one game, but McNairy Central scored one more run. I could be wrong, and you could be right. But I thought that would make the most common since. If you're right, I'm not a fan of having another team (Chester County) involved in a tiebreaker (MCHS and SHHS), wouldn't make since to me. But you could be right.

I try to make things simple, but the tiebreaker game is starting to show. Riverside has a tiebreaker over Lexington, but they don't over McNairy Central. 

McNairy Central has a tiebreaker over Scotts Hill.

Lexington is the 7-5 team that doesn't have the tiebreaker over Riverside and Scotts Hill. Could Lexington go from the 5 seed to the 2 seed? Yes, if they sweep McNairy, A'ville sweeps Scotts Hill, and South Side sweeps Riverside. 

We are down to one more week of district play before the tournament. Here are the updated district standing (4/18/18)...

3. McNairy Central (7-5)

4. Riverside (7-5)

5. Lexington (7-5)

6. South Side (4-8)

Here is what's at stake:

Chester County: Good news for the Eagles is that they will host first round of the district tournament, that is a fact. In addition, if the Eagles win one game against an unhealthy North Side team, they will obviously clinched the #1 seed and host the whole tournament. If the Indians sweep North Side and Scotts Hill sweeps Adamsville, then Chester County will be the 2 seed (lost tiebreaker to Scotts Hill).

Scotts Hill: The Lions have Adamsville left. If the Lions sweep the Cardinals, then they're in a virtual lock for the 2 seed, unless Chester County is swept by North Side. Things will be intriguing if Scotts Hill loses a game to Adamsville, and McNairy Central sweeps Lexington. Scotts Hill has tiebreakers over Riverside and Lexington, but not to McNairy Central. If Scotts Hill is swept by Adamsville, then it's a waiting game for the McNairy Central/Lexington and Riverside/South Side series, to see where the seedings fall. The 3 way tie could virtually come down to tiebreakers.

McNairy Central: The Bobcats swept Riverside in the opening series of the season, that tiebreaker will carry weight. If McNairy Central sweeps Lexington, then they'll clinched the 2 seed if Adamsville defeats Scotts Hill once. If not, they'll be the 3 seed. 

Riverside: In order for Riverside to jump frog McNairy Central, they'll have to finish a game better than McNairy Central. If Riverside wants a chance for the 2 seed, then they'll need to: Sweep South Side, Lexington to sweep McNairy Central, and Adamsville to sweep Scotts Hill. If Riverside loses a game to South Side, then the chances of them getting the 2 and 3 seeds are over, and will have to wait the results of the McNairy Central/Lexington series.

Lexington: BREAKING NEWS: Lexington plays McNairy Central next week. The Tigers are in the same boat as Riverside. In order for them to get the 2 seed. Lexington needs to sweep McNairy Central, South Side to beat Riverside once, and Adamsville to sweep Scotts Hill. If the Tigers drop a game to McNairy Central, then they will be the 5 seed.

South Side: South Side took care of beating Adamsville and a stone cold North Side team (when they played). However, if South Side beats Riverside once, then they will be a lock for the 6 seed. If not and North Side sweeps Chester County, then the Indians will be the 6 seed and South Side will drop to 7.

Adamsville: The Cardinals will create havoc if they sweep Scotts Hill and make it a whole lot of fun. And if they do, then they could move up to the 7 seed if North Side is swept by Chester County. That's the only way because North Side has the tiebreaker over Adamsville. 

There is a simpler way to look at things, but I did it the best way I can.

AAA is just plain hard for a West Tennessee team to come out of and go to Murfreesboro. 13AAA always the underdog. Bigger schools in Memphis just have too many athletes. Not sure about the Liberty enrollment but Dyer County has 1200 students and is in AAA competing  with schools like Arlington  with last I heard 2500 students or Bartlett with 900 in the Freshman class alone last I heard. Just hard to do. Liberty with the right coach could very well have a shot if the can draw from across Madison County.

I agree with that, but that last sentence and the word if scares me. That is where South Side comes into play. As long as Coach Fuller is still at South Side, they'll be a bigger threat to reach the state tournament than Liberty. Yes, the talent is down in Jackson. It's down in both basketball and football, and it's drastically down.

The only time Lexington recently went to a sub state that I can remember is back to back years when they had the big kid that went to Memphis. Other than that. They have been out first or second round of the Region.

Liberty is the most appealing to me. Tons of kids there and they have championship banners. I feel Liberty is hungry for someone to come in and turn it around.

Liberty is a AAA school where you have to deal with Dyer County, Cordova, East, and others when it comes to region play (DC for district). Yes, you see the championship banners but I honestly don't think the kids care about the banners that hang in the raptors/walls. I believe the kids view it as a "what have you done for me lately" type thing, and I believe they will choose South Side over Liberty because of that. Now, will kids still attend Liberty and will Liberty still be competitive? Yes. But going to Murfreesboro? Doubt it.

I can't think of any on the top of my head that should be in the flirtatous of getting a new coach. However I've noticed that Milan has a new football coach in Teddy Pettigrew, and now they're getting a new boys and girls basketball coach. They're busy in Milan.

The Lexington one is intriguing to me because I can see Lexington compete for sub-state occasionally. I won't say every year, but they have the size to make a run.

Liberty is not appealing to me. Little brother to South Side now in Jackson's bragging rights, and the traveling sucks. Going to Savannah, Munford, and Brighton to play district, and playing region in AAA region Memphis. In addition, I don't think going to Liberty in general is attractive.

Top 2 seeds will host the first round of the tournament. Then the top seed will host the remainder of the tournament. Double elimination, no play-in game.

I agree, but I know one thing, the Riverside Panthers will be ready in the tournament. The tournament will tell me a lot. I don't know much Riverside, but you have got to have pitching depth, because this pitching rule will screw several teams. In addition to that, this new rule has made the defense a huge priority. Sometimes, your defense is the one that forces a pitcher out of the game. I don't know the exact dates of the tournament, but I believe this will go from Thursday the 3rd to Thursday the 10th with a Sunday off day. So it will be somewhat of a spread out tournament.

On Riverside, I agree. Scotts Hill has a chance though as long as they handle their pitching staff correctly in the tournament. I would say at this point, I do believe Chester County has the best chance to move into regionals. To me, whoever has a good #3-5 pitchers will have the best chance to make it out. Unfortunately, when I did see Scotts Hill, I didn't see any relief pitchers. 

This week, April the 2nd, had a few surprises 

Chester County and Lexington split, 11-3 and 3-5.

Eagles bats were hot and stayed hot for Monday, but they cooled off on Tuesday as Lexington rolled into Henderson and beat Chester. Despite losing the tiebreaker, this series was a huge win for Lexington as they keep the chances of having a good seed in the tournament alive.

Scotts Hill and Riverside split, 0-3 and 3-5.

The split helps Chester County as the Eagles will remain the #1 seed in the tournament, heading into next week. However, Riverside played themselves as the potential lock for the 4 seed as they were swept by McNairy Central and Chester County. The Panthers district record is 3-5.

South Side sweeps North Side 7-1 and 11-1.

South Side is arguably one of the hottest teams in all of West Tennessee. They can put on a hitting clinic as they're aggressive in the box. Their pitching and defense is not too shabby either. Can the Hawks keep their consistant winning  as they take on the Tigers? Meanwhile, North Side is scuffling right now as the Indians can't find a way to score. If the Indians swept South Side, they would be in contention for the three seed, however they're now the 7th seed after getting swept. 

McNairy Central and Adamsville split, 7-1 and 3-6.

This is really not a surprise to me as it appears Wells pitched a great game for Adamsville on Monday. However, McNairy Central put it on them on Tuesday. McNairy Central could win all of their district games remaining on schedule as they play both Jackson schools, and Lexington to finish the season. Adamsville, will have the potential to move up in the standings, but they have to beat Riverside who proved themselves they won't be an easy win.

In game 1 Scotts Hill had chances early to put up some runs but McNairy was able to prevent the game from getting away from them. Down 2-1, they managed to score 3 in the 4th to go ahead for the rest of the game. In game 2, McNairy got the early lead but Scotts Hill fought back in the 4th. Trailing 2-0, they scored 4 to take the lead and not give it back.

The McNairy Central/Scotts Hill split opened up the door for Chester, who swept McNairy Central just last week. I was a little shocked at the outcome of that series, really did believe that Scotts Hill will sweep McNairy coming in. To me, it just means that all Chester County has to do is split with Scotts Hill, and they'll be in great hands to host the district tournament. Next week could be potentially all sweeps, but the North Side and South Side series will be the most intriguing of the four.

I was impressed with the way Chester hit the ball. Left a lot of runs on the bases in the 1st game and stroked the ball in the 2nd game. Their pitching is still a question mark for me. I expected better pitching out of McNairy but Chester did swing the sticks well. McNairy also left a lot of runs on the basepaths. Had potential for some big innings but ended up flaing out. 

Riverside sweeps Lexington: 5-2, 11-2 

It looks like Riverside pitching performed well in this series. They pulled away with a big 5th inning in the 2nd game. 

Scotts Hill sweeps Southside 6-2, 14-1

Didn't see much on these games, just the scores.

Adamsville splits with Northside 4-2, 2-7

Adamsville won game 4-2 as they had a strong pitching outing by Wells with 11 Ks. Northside made quite a few errors. Northside won their game on a strong pitching outing by Dingledine. He threw a complete game no-hitter with 7 ks. A few errors gave Aville their runs.

Thanks for the update, and Riverside will play Chester County. I will have to say that I've been impressed with Chester County so far. I've noticed that 7 of the 8 series are sweeps, I don't know if I will put too much stock into it. I still like Scotts Hill. I would've thought that McNairy Central and Lexington would at least split their respected opponents, and North Side would swept Adamsville. I will find out about North Side, Lexington, and McNairy Central a lot next week. 

What happened in the Lexington/Adamsville series? I know that McNairy Central, Chester County, and Scotts Hill all swept their opponents, Riverside, South Side, and North Side.

Next week: Riverside/Lexington, Chester County/McNairy Central, North Side/Adamsville, and Scotts Hill/South Side will be the pairings.

But I don’t think there is any way he will get hired as a head coach at a high major D1 university at this point- he’s not ready, IMO. Even if he gets top notch talent he would get outcoached by other more experienced coaches who likewise have top notch talent.

 

If Penny is not ready, then when will he be ready? I think he'll be fine. Am I expecting Memphis to be a "blue-blood" school? No. But he'll automatically make Memphis better than what Tubby did. And the fans will be engaging, therefore, the athletic department will receive more revenue money and they don't have to worry about paying that $800,000 dollars to the Memphis Grizzlies and FedEx Forum because of a lack of attendance.
