  1. Plus K2 added a new coach from Mintonette volleyball. That's a seriously competitive club out of Columbus, OH. J, which i'm sure people already know his experience, Zack (from Mintonette), and Tom now are the coaches of the recruitable aged players. All have college connections, all have a lot of experience. Way to go K2. I appreciate the fact that they're taking it to the next level and I credit the opening of KVA for that. It's forced them to focus on quality not quantity. I can't say it enough. People should go to the club that's best for their child. It's not about getting everyone to see your side. That'll never happen. Knoxville now has a choice. Not many choices, but they still have a choice.
  2. I do agree that both clubs have young coaches. That can't be avoided but to say that Tom doesn't know how to coach girls is pretty funny. I think because people don't like his style they think that he doesn't know how to coach girls. I don't like a lot of coaches styles but I wouldn't say that they don't know how to coach. As far as his coaching experience he actually has 4 national championships, coached and studied in Japan (the best volleyball in the world), he's coached for over 20 years (started in high school), has players in pros and colleges, and still coaches pro and collegiate athletes in the off season (DeeDee Harrison, Kelsie Robinson, Marie Pollmiller). He runs camps in Florida, Colorado, and Alabama. This is what he does. People just don't like his style. That's why KVA is a great option. I also like J. I don't know J as a coach as well as I do Tom. When I found out my daughter may be playing for Tom I did my homework. I will do the same if she is ever to be coached by J. Tom and I have had our differences but we talk them out. I don't argue with his coaching style because the proof is all right there, including my child.
  3. Bigblue...do you have a child that plays? What do you think? I'm off to bed now. I'll check you guys out later.
  4. I don't know if you've noticed but i've removed almost all of my negative comments. Just didn't want it left up there. I've played and coached AAU basketball and trust me it's in all sports. Everyone thinks that their team is better than the other. I've also seen it in baseball as young as little league. It's not just volleyball. Sports Performance has a great system, they have 3-4 tiers (all recruit level). They also have break off clubs of their own. It's kinda cool. They've created their own competition by opening clubs under another name. Now that is the way to go. It'd be nice to kind of just have one big powerhouse club, yet keep the styles and levels separate.
  5. Bruinbabe, I don't know what happened in Nashville, but did the coaches there have club experience with the top clubs in the country? Did they come into Nashville with national championships? Did they actually study around the world with some of the greatest coaches there are? I'm sure there are some similarities but there are some differences. Like, neither Tom or J want to coach high school. Plus, I know how much the coaches get paid here. It can't be the money. No thanks. In Nashville that may be a different story. I do agree that all coaches aren't for everyone. That's why it's good that there are other options.
  6. I actually do think that adding a third club was a good idea. Unfortunately I don't think ALL of them will survive. I think that Phoenix has really suffered but competition is what it is and there is a such thing as free enterprise. I think that K2 and KVA are totally different clubs. It's more about what you want for your child and what you want your child to get out of it. Coaching is totally different club to club, family involvement is totally different, the level of play is even different. It comes down to YOUR child. Talk to parents from both clubs, ask the coaches questions. Most importantly go and watch them in action. Maybe you don't want to practice 2 a days. Maybe you don't want your child yelled at. Maybe you want her to play on a high level, or start out on a lower level. Maybe you want to be as involved as possible or maybe you would like your child to travel and practice with no parent involvement. It totally depends on what's best for your family.
  7. Hardangle and Bigbluevolley, you guys are correct. This was not the time or the place for me to vent my frustrations. I jumped in to defend the club I love and my child. I do apologize. It is pretty childish once you sit back and look at it. I like Dave as a person, not as a coach. I don't agree with some of what's being said and I let it get to me which i shouldn't have done. I am a better person than that. Bigblue, I don't believe this is the direction that you were trying to go with this and if it makes you feel any better, I will not fall into the trap any longer. Although, I meant what I said, this wasn't the time or the place. I apologize if it offended you guys.
  8. Btw, My daughter is 6'3 and 14, but we know by now that you don't know your facts so that's not a surprise at all...
