Amazing how Riverdale, Blackman, Oakland and Stewart's Creek seems to be very down. Amazon how these schools and cities are growing by leaps and bounds and obviously can't find 5 good basketball players. I lived in Murfreesboro for 15 years and I sold real estate and it is hard to comprehend.

Oakland and Blackman made Sub-State this year. RuCo is adding a new HS every 4 years, that's going to dilute the talent a little bit. Oakland gets the most out of their talent, not as flush with talent as Riverdale/Blackman were or have been

I thought STARS did a great job of getting Brody Smith.  But! The garbage service at Baylor and McCallie must be superior. Baylor has already got UT commit Joakim Dodson and now they are getting Alcoa standout Kolby Barrett.  McCallie got 3 transfers this past weekend.  2 of them are big Defensive Linemen.

McCallie and Baylor got that fancy garbage service with new passports for everyone. New logo should be the Canadian flag in their colors

Booger, you are lost. This is the DII thread. Last I check Oakland isn't in DII.

But, if you want to extend them an invite, I'd be happy to see that. In the 2021-22 season where Oakland went 15-0, they played LA and CPA and they squeaked by with a win in both contests.  Impressive considering those two played for the AA ball that year. Let them play the AAA East region gauntlet of a schedule  just sayin

I don't see anybody from II-AAA volunteering. Oakland has scrimmaged multiple II-AAA teams just about every pre-season. Oakland has entered spring 4 years in a row with just 9 games so you want some, come get some

Wow! Team friendly is now $275 million over 5 yrs.  55 mil a year.  Crazy man

2024 is the biggest salary of his deal at 55M, after that it steadily drops down into the mid 40s for the rest of the deal. So yes, Burrow took a page from Brady and left a significant amount of money on the table in the hopes his team can't put it to good use elsewhere

I'm afraid they value Chase more after paying Joe. I imagine this will be the last run of the trio together. They will ask one or both of Tee and Chase to take lesser money to keep the other. Maybe they do it, but I would see about greener pastures with a QB still on the rookie deal. Hard to pay everyone else once that QB is signed.

I would checkout Houston if I was Tee after this year. Maybe go team back up with his college QB in TLaw

No offense to Higgins, but they should. Burrow took a team friendly deal so I think keeping both isn't that crazy but if Tee wants WR1 money, I don't think it will be in Cincy.

My guess is that local area teams do not want to play due to your success and the potential of losing players

In the past that was probably a legitimate concern but if a kid/parent is motivated to move their kid to Oakland or whoever, that's not gonna stop them. Most of Oakland’s big transfers have come from a private school.

Always found it curious that even at the height of their dominance, Maryville never had a problem filling out their schedule. Made me a little jealous that they were able to maintain old rivalries while still playing at a very high level

Yea I was wrong on the 70s. Oakland for sure has a great program. I would think it is hard for you all to find someone willing to schedule a home and home due to your success. That is why you have to go out of state for games.

Not helped by the fact that Oakland is only in a 6 team region. Finding 5 games when there are 6 classes isn't easy and forces them to sometimes schedule games against smaller schools. Don't remember the last time Oakland went into the spring with a full 10 game schedule.

Sheriff, I believe we played Murfreesboro Central in those days. Oakland & Riverdale didn’t become schools till later on.

Central was the school for all of Murfreesboro until 1972. Great article on the 1970 championship team on the tssaa website Murfreesboro Central

I was going to say this just to offer some hope to the Cat fans, but yeah, father time is undefeated.

Well more like everything runs in cycles and there are no guarantees. Riverdale dominated for the better part of 15 years in the 90s and 00s and hasn't been back to the title game since.

I would agree the top of 5A is strong but 6A is heavier top to bottom.

Last year was probably the first season I would def agree with that. All the growth in Middle and East TN is starting to show when it comes to parity. 6A has never been stronger

Oakland is loaded it seems every year

Oakland is blessed with a great coaching staff but is also blessed with a great feeder system. MS, Fresh and JV have lost very few games the last 5 years

Don't see that changing anytime soon, unfortunately for the rest of us.  Is what it is.

Nothing lasts forever. 6A is more balanced than ever and while Oakland may continue to win alot of games, it's my belief we are near the end of the Creasy era.

I know Oakland and OR used to be a tough game in the 70s and 80s

88 and 89 were the first meetings bewteen the 2 and there have only been 6 meetings total. If it wasn't for Oakland and Riverdale, Gaddis might have a few more titles to his name.

I'd much rather have a home and home with a program steeped in tradition like OR than travel out of state

Yeah I miss the glory days, for sure. We better make a move in 5A soon because next realignment we’re probably heading to the big boy league of 6A. Ain’t no joke up there.

I'd argue that 5A is just as tough in ET as 6A is, if not more so. Don't think it'll be a big jump in competition for OR

He definitely had an advantage in talent over West both years that they played 2022, which was just a straight embarrassment. Nobody was expecting Paige to lose by that much or even lose to Knox West, but they did, and you can only point fingers so far either way. However, look at it: the two losses from this season from independence and Knoxville West shouldn’t have happened and only happened because of terrible time management and play calls at the end of the game, which has been a common thing. Verizon, tire coaching career at page I'm not doubting he is a great coach and has built something special over at page, but he just needs to complete the journey with a gold ball, which he hasn’t done so far, even though looking at his past teams.

Even the best football coaches in the country (at all levels) struggle with clock management. Easy to judge a play after its over.

Your not doubting that he isn't a great coach, yet you advocate for firing a guy that has gone 63-17 the last 6 seasons, you can't have it both ways

Paige head football coach Charles Rathbone is going into his 10th season, and if he doesn’t win state this year, I think it’s got to be his last. He’s had some very good teams, but especially this past season completely sold this year with terrible play calling and time management all year. They had all the capability in the world to win a championship this last season, and they do again this year, especially with a linebacker duo like Anes and Hazzard. I would give him this year, but if he doesn’t win a championship, or at least even make it to the championship game, it’s got to be his last;, there’s no more excuses for him.

Maybe I'm the minority, but I don't get this logic at all. Outside of a few good years with Jackie Benett, the history of Page football prior to Rathbone has been a whole lot of nothing. In 21 and 22 they were big underdogs and it showed. Last year they graduated alot of talent on offense from the previous team, if anything they provably overachieved. Don't think anyone is going to put more pressure to win than Page puts on themselves.

If you play 15 games, you had a great season. To fire Rathbone for not winning the last one (regardless of how this season goes) is just crazy when he doesn't have an advantage in talent

It looks like they will catch a break and not have to play a varsity schedule in the first year. I remember when Summit opened with just freshmen and sophomores they were at the start of the two year cycle. They were put in the district with Giles County, Lewis County, etc. It was brutal. IIRC Independence opened in the middle of the cycle and got to ease into football with a JV schedule only the first year.

This will also affect Spring Hill HS in two years sending them back down to 4A or maybe even 3A for a bit. The re-zoning for BCHS is going to take a big bite out of their population.

Honestly think new schools should be ineligible from scheduling Varsity competition until they have all 4 grades. Unless it's a situation like LC where the whole county board is all in on seeing them succeed,  first 2 years are gonna be rough

I figured the Rutherford Co. schools already had turf. All except two here in NW Georgia have it, and neither of them want it.

Slowly, but surely. Oakland, Blackman and Siegel have it, Smyrna and Riverdale are up next and I suspect SC & Rockvale won't be far behind. Not sure LaVergne, Eagleville, or MTCS will get it

That happens a lot of times. They use a new job opening to try and get something at their current school with no intention of ever leaving.

Gary Rankin perfected this at Riverdale. No telling how many times he got a raise bc his name was attached to a high profile vacancy
