  3. All the recruiting talk with the private schools will be out the window next year when they are all playing each other. GCA will be where they have belonged for years. As far as Coalfield goes we all know Ted M. is running everything down there with recruiting. We all know what he did with the Oakdale football player over the summer, its not a secret anymore. He does it on the little league stage as well. What goes around comes around. With Oakdale beating Harriman I would say if OD, Harriman Coalfield, WB all play their best game they could compete with GCA. Not saying they could win, I'm just saying they could compete.
  4. You are correct cookevegas3, that was my mistake. However that proves my no advantage point even more that OS has won as many there as WB. In past 10 years 6 out of 7 boys district teams have won a title at WB with Oneida being the only exception and they should have won it with that loaded team in 2012. The 5 teams besides WB that have won a title in last 10 years all beat WB to do so. As much fussing that goes on over this these stats show that there is really no argument. It is as cut and dry as it can possibly be. I bet there are very few districts in single A where 90% of the district has won a title in past 10 years.
  5. Oneida is not big enough, only WB and Jellico. Wartburg AD and assistant boys bball coach voted to move it to Anderson County last year when a motion was made. The teams that play on each night split the money brought in that night. WB makes no more than anyone else and puts in more work by my observation. If you don't want the schools to make any money and only have 75 people in the gym then move it to Jellico. This wont be an issue after this year with the new district there will be more schools able to host after this year. Its not WB fault they are the only school close by that has a gym big enough to host. WB doesnt have any advantage, have played in title game 7 or 8 times in last ten years and have only one 2. OZ girls bball Coach Christopher has won more titles there than Joe Layne. Title Games: 2007 Wb vs OS- OS won 2008 WB vs SUN- WB won 2009 satellite games that year. WB vs OS at OS- OS won 2010 Jellico vs OS- Jellico won 2011 Jellico vs WB- Jellico won 2012 WB vs Oneida- WB won 2013 WB vs SUN- Sun won 2014 WB vs COAL- Coal won 2015 COAL vs Oak- game got snowed out and OAK was given title by default by being 1 seed 2016 WB vs Oak- Oak won
  6. Wartburg and Oakdale is still on. Bumped everything up. Girls play at 5 boys at 6:30. Should be a fun atmosphere with first place on the line.
  7. Obviously having talent goes a long way but good coaches can do a lot with a little. Coach Hill at CF didn't win a lot his first few seasons but his guys played hard. Marty Maxfield MAXIMIZED his talent at Sunbright he did a whole, whole lot with barely anything. Tony Ingram and Marty Maxfield both beat Wartburg the year they made it to state with Fountain and Richardson. Coach Layne at Wartburg went like 6-18 his first year and 18-6 his second year and only lost one guy that year I do believe. Those records may be a little off but it was close to that and I believe they played for district title that year and may have won it, not sure though. WB coach also took a team to the district title the year after Fountain and his loaded class graduated. Its safe to say though that WB coach is best in district and will be till someone can consistently beat him in February, from what I have saw guy is a winner. As far as Rusty Yaden goes the guy never won a big game, he had a chance to beat WB 4 times the year he had Cole West, Jake Wright and that group and the guy couldn't do it and as far as his antics as WB that night I was told he was pushed to the limit but someone in his position has to know when to be quiet. I had people from Oneida tell me they were embarrassed and he should have been fired on the spot. The current coach may not be the answer but from what I saw and was told Yaden may not be the guy either. Not bashing the coach at Oneida but bottom line is that plenty of coaches in this district have won with little talent at small schools so it can be done.
  8. I think Oakdale should be the team to beat in 4A, if they can keep attitude issues outta the way. Coalfield will be right there but they lost their glue guy in Lee from last year so I think it could be a rocky start for them, plus they usually make a football playoff run so their guys are usually are a few weeks behind. Wartburg fast pace system will always keep them right there in the mix, always capable of making a run, never count them out with best coach in the district . Jellico will have rebuilding this year. Oliver Springs will be good with Murray but guard play could hurt them. Oneida and Sunbright will battle for last, Freels is good but not that good. I know nothing about 3A. 1)Oakdale 2)Wartburg-coaching wins out over coalfield 3)Coalfield 4)Jellico 5)O.S. 6/7)Oneida/Sunbright

  11. I see OS taking the top spot on the district. They obviously have the two best guards if not two best players in the district. Plus you throw in Jones at post rumor has it they have a couple good shooters in the sophomore class, and everyone is talking bright things with their freshman group. Oneida will be right there though, always well coached and seem to play well as a team. Wartburg is a coin flip each night on how they play. Coalfield will surprise some people. Sunbright seemed to play harder under new coach last year. Rumor has it Monkhouse is gone from Oakdale so there goes their best player if its true. Jellico is just Jellico we will wait and see if they improve any. 1. OS 2. Oneida 3. Wartburg 4. Coalfield 5. Sunbright 6. Oakdale 7. Jellico
  12. Since 2007 Wartburg, Jellico, Coalfield, Oliver Springs, and Sunbright have all won the tourney title at Wartburg. Wartburg has won it twice in that time, in 08 (as a 4 seed) and in 12. The Oliver Springs girls team has won it at Wartburg more than Wartburg boys. Wartburg has played in the last 4 district champ. games and they have won 1 of them. How is that home cooking?? We need to quit crying and just admit that Wartburg coach Joe Layne is the best in the district and when it comes to making a run in the tourney he always has his boys ready to go with the system he runs. I completely agree with the tourney being moved and with everyone saying its not fair. Its not fair to Coach Layne, the athletic director, and principals that they are in control of the tourney every night and have to take the time away from their families to do it. What would be the outcome of those district titles that wburg has lost if coach layne wasn't having to deal with the tourney and was like every other coach and just got to get his team ready to play? We will find out this year, if he wins with his team. Should be fun tourney,
