  1. What a fun 4th quarter and overtimes! We played Riverside Christian in Fayetteville last night and luckily our game got over in time for me to catch the 4th and overtimes! Both teams are fun to watch and I hope all three of us are playing into March!
  2. First night of District games completed... Mt. Pleasant (9-6, 1-0) 67 Santa Fe (2-10, 0-1) 61 Culleoka ( 1-10, 1-0) 53 Hampshire (1-14, 0-1) 36
  3. From what I was told Community slowed it way down and played a half court game until Fayetteville tried to make a run to late. I believe Community only had 27 at half and Fayetteville was in the teens.
  4. Eagleville's McClaran is the smoothest lefty I've seen in a while. Fun to watch. Stoudemire stepped up big in both CA games... 1st game 29pts/15rebs & 2nd game 31pts/9rebs
  5. I would say there is a good chance both Eagleville & Fayetteville could make it to the state this year. Both have good scorers, play good defense and have depth. After seeing both teams I would give the slight upper hand to Fayetteville to win the district. CA was at full strength against Fayetteville and had to fight hard to pull out the 3pt win. Against Eagleville CA had 1 starter and 2 bench players out last night. Those players combined to score 30% of the CA's points in the first matchup this season against Eagleville. A win is a win though... Eagleville played hard and never gave up.
  6. Thanks for the advice. I just got off the phone with Gene Menees. From his own mouth.... a player that is freshman/JV ONLY can play both Rec League and freshman/ JV level at the same time. Like mentioned here a number of times... that player CAN NOT be on the varsity team bench or player's list for the remainder of the season though. So, if your school is big enough to have a completely separate freshman/JV team than the varsity level then yes a freshman/JV ONLY player can play Rec.
  7. From what I've seen in person or through game tape so far the below are worth mentioning. Division I-A Anthony Jones Jr. - Humboldt Carson Cary - Columbia Academy Julius Dixon - Fayetteville Division I-AA K. J. Johnson - Marshall County
  8. Where did WEB Dubois go? I don't see them listed on coacht.com this year.
  9. That’s what everyone keeps saying but if you actually read the rule book it’s not. At least for the non- varsity players.
  10. So you are saying that if a kid that's only on a Junior Varsity team can not participate in any other organized game? even if he does not suit up and play in the varsity level? Because the below was copied straight out of the TSSAA rule book and it says the only eligibility rules that apply to Junior Varsity is those listed..... and Section 21 "Independent-Game Participation" is not in that list. It clearly separates the Varsity level and below junior varsity or B-Team levels. "At the junior varsity or B-Team level, the only eligibility rules that apply are those in Sections 1 (Enrollment), 2 through 4 (Academic Rules), 5 (High School Graduate), 6 (Eight-Semester Rule), 7 (Repeating Rule), 8 (Eighth Grade Participation), 9 (Age Limit), 10 (Physical Examination and Parental Consent), 13d (Under Disciplinary Action), 13e (Coaching Link), and 25 (Home School Rule). At the varsity level, all eligibility rules apply." Again, I have no dog in this... just trying to understand the actual rules I see posted and debated on here.
  11. agreed... Junior Varsity – Any level of play below the varsity level, whether denominated as junior varsity, b-team, or otherwise. The membership of a junior varsity team shall be composed of varsity substitutes and any other nonvarsity players identified on the school’s eligibility list. But from the way I read it. If the kid he's talking about is on the freshman only team and is not going to ever suit up or play on the varsity team then they could play rec. Would I ever allow my child to do it... HECK NO! The punishment by TSSAA would be if the kid played Rec during the season and then was brought up to the varsity team and played minutes. Then from what I read that would be playing an ineligible player at the varsity level. Again these are only my personal opinions of the rule as I read it. The school's coach and AD should be in this conversation before the parent does it. i think some of the confusion comes in when comparing small schools to larger schools. With small schools you may be on the Freshman/JV team but you still dress out for the varsity & may play in blowouts. With some larger schools the freshman/JV players never see the varsity bench the whole year.
  12. Long read but from the sections I pulled below I don't see where a player that's not on a varsity eligibility list would be prohibited from playing independent games "Rec League" and Junior Varsity during the same time period. I wouldn't think a school's coach would want the players doing that in case they do need to pull them up to the varsity eligibility list. But if a freshman has no chance of being listed on the varsity teams eligibility list then where does it show he can't play in independent games? Junior Varsity – Any level of play below the varsity level, whether denominated as junior varsity, b-team, or otherwise. The membership of a junior varsity team shall be composed of varsity substitutes and any other nonvarsity players identified on the school’s eligibility list. At the junior varsity or B-Team level, the only eligibility rules that apply are those in Sections 1 (Enrollment), 2 through 4 (Academic Rules), 5 (High School Graduate), 6 (Eight-Semester Rule), 7 (Repeating Rule), 8 (Eighth Grade Participation), 9 (Age Limit), 10 (Physical Examination and Parental Consent), 13d (Under Disciplinary Action), 13e (Coaching Link), and 25 (Home School Rule). At the varsity level, all eligibility rules apply. Independent-Game Participation is Section 21. Section 21. Once a student’s name is listed on the school’s eligibility report, if a student participates in an independent game in that sport after the first contest date allowed and before the season has closed or his/her name has been removed from the eligibility report at the request of the school principal, the student shall be ineligible at the varsity level as explained below. Any organized game in which players not registered with TSSAA participate – regardless of whether admission is charged - is considered as an independent game. Violation of this rule will render the student ineligible for 25% of the number of contests/dates allowed in that sport by the sports calendar or for the remainder of the season in that sport, whichever number is the least. Violation of this rule a second time in the same sport in the same season will render the student ineligible in that sport for the remainder of the season. A student's name may be removed from the school's eligibility list upon written request of the principal prior to the first official contest date allowed in that sport without penalty. After the first official contest allowed, a student’s name may be removed from the school’s eligibility list upon written request of the principal, and he/she may then participate as an independent without penalty. If the principal requests the state office to remove a student’s name after the first official contest date allowed in that sport, such student may not again be certified during the season of that sport. This rule does not apply to bowling, golf, and tennis. Independent-Game Participation Q&A 1. Q. Team A is eliminated in the district basketball tournament. May players on Team A participate in an independent game or tournament without endangering their eligibility? A. The basketball season ends for any member school when the school is eliminated from tournament play. Students may participate as members of independent teams in any sport after the season for that sport has closed without affecting their eligibility, provided the amateur rule is not violated. 2018-19 TSSAA Handbook Page 61 July 12, 2018 2. Q. A golfer, tennis player, or bowler wishes to participate in a club tournament during the golf, tennis, or bowling season. Is this a violation of the independent rule? A. No, provided the golfer, tennis player, or bowler participates as an individual and not as a member or representative of his/her school. The independent rule does not apply to golf, tennis, and bowling. 3. Q. May a player participate in a scrimmage, practice game or game with an independent team after being registered with TSSAA past the first official day of competition in that sport? A. No. The student shall be ineligible immediately in the sport in which the violation occurs. 4. Q. Is it a violation for a registered athlete in baseball or softball to practice with an independent team? A. No, provided he/she participates in practice situations only (batting practice, infield practice, etc.), provided no game situations are involved. 5. Q. Is it a violation for a registered athlete in track or cross country to participate in a road race? A. No, provided the race is longer than 3200 meters during track season or longer than 5K (3.1 miles) during cross country season. 6. Q. A basketball player participates in an independent game and the school notifies the state office of the violation. What is the penalty for the student athlete? A. The student will be ineligible for the next six contests (25% of the number of games allowed under the sports calendar) or the remainder of the season, whichever is the least. 7. Q. A student is registered on the girls’ softball team with school A after the first official day of competition for girls’ softball. The student then participates in an independent girls’ softball game. She then returns to school A’s softball team where she plays three games. The coach of school A determines that the student has played in an independent game and reports the violation to the state office. What is the penalty? A. School A has played an ineligible player for three games. The three games will be forfeited and disciplinary action will be taken. The student is ineligible for nine games. (If a student participates in three contests as an ineligible player, the three contests will be forfeited, disciplinary action will be taken against the school, and the student will be ineligible to participate in the next nine contests or for the remainder of the season, whichever is the least.)
  13. What's your prediction now after everyone has played two or three games each? My prediction is still the same with everyone besides Mt. Pleasant fighting hard not to finish 4th during the regular season.
  14. It all starts tonight!!! I can't wait... 1) Columbia Academy 2) Mt. Pleasant 3) Richland 4) Santa Fe* 5) Culleoka 6) Hampshire * Could be the sleeper this year and could finish as high as 2nd. They will be coached well and they have a good Freshman and Sophomore class. My pre-season prediction for the finish after the district tournament. Unfortunately not a strong district from top to bottom again this year. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see anyone making a run in the Region beside possibly the top 2 seeds Columbia Academy and ????. *this all depends on everyone staying healthy. Praying for an injury free season for all of 10A. Hall of Champions Schedules: Columbia Academy @ Middle TN Christian Thursday (Nov 15th) @ Columbia Central Saturday, (Nov 17th) Culleoka host Cornersville Tuesday (Nov 13th) @ Cascade Friday (Nov 16th) Hampshire host Lewis County Tuesday (Nov 13) host Zion Christian Friday (Nov 16th) Mt. Pleasant @ Frank Hughes Tuesday (Nov 13th) host Cornersville Friday (Nov 16th) Richland @ Fayetteville Tuesday (Nov 13th) host Eagleville Thursday (Nov 15th ) Santa Fe host Fairview Tuesday (Nov 13th) host Scotts Hill Friday (Nov 16th)
  15. Congratulations to LC. Fans, coaches and players brought it at us tonight!
  16. I would agree that right at this moment we aren't as smooth offensively as last year. 10 days in from losing our QB for the season and we played last night without two starting linemen (which included the center) . Big improvements in those 10 days with 21days until the 1st round game! I believe most of the top 2A teams would be in the same position offensively if they had to play without their starting QB, Center and Tackle this late in the season. Defensively we are the same or even better than last year at this moment. Without the starting MLB and DT tonight we held Eagleville to less than 90 yards of offense. Per the Murfreesboro paper Ethan Cobb only had 70 yards passing (43 of that came on one play where we missed tackles)
  17. Without Tears at QB and missing two starting linemen tonight against Eagleville the offense struggled to find consistency. It was an improvement over last week though. Defensively: Besides the mis-tackles on the 43 yard short pass and run play in the 1Q that lead to Eagleville's TD, they were never a threat at scoring. Eagleville had less than 100 yards of total offense and 65 came on their TD drive.
  18. It's a Region game so it should be a good game. We are definitely waiting to see how our boys bounce back from that unusual 2nd half of play against FRA. Common region opponents: Forrest & Community Eagleville is scoring 24.5 ppg and giving up 21.5 ppg EHS 14 Forrest 13 EHS 35 Community 30 Columbia Academy is scoring 46.5 ppg and giving up 10 ppg. (*those 20 points by Community were all scored on non starters) CA 38 Forrest 0 CA 55 Community 20 Now all that being said... it means nothing! These are High School boys... so we will see who shows up and how they show up Friday night. Hoping both teams give it their all and we both come out of this game injury free!
  19. Book it! Forrest does not lose this week.
  20. This week will be a good week for the team. Back to the normal full week schedule. Last week was fall break so no school and a shorten practice week. I believe the coaches will be ready for region play next week and the loss can be a good humbling experience for the boys before the end of the season stretch and starting the playoffs.
  21. All of them were in the 2nd half also. It was a bad 2nd half of football for us.
  22. Injuries are definitely not an excuse for the bad 2nd half last night. We started the game without the QB and were up 7-6 in the 2Q when we lost our starting center. Only trailed 9-7 at half. Their 1st half TD score was a recovered blocked punt in the end zone. We also lost another starting lineman during the 2nd half. Both linemen should be back this season but the qb is gone for the remainder. Again the injuries were not the only reason for the bad 2nd half. FRA just took it at us. Definitely some revenge for last year’s blowout win over them.
