  1. This likes a great small tournament! Catholic v HARDIN Valley will be a war! CAK should win there pool pretty easy. I would expect CAK, Catholic, HV and Bearden to fight it out. A CAK v Catholic final should be great!
  2. After last night Webb separated themselves from the pack. Has any team scored more than twenty against them? My new top five: Webb Farragut Catholic Harden Valley CAK
  3. I am going to the Catholic tourney tonight and tomorrow. Does anyone have a bracket? I want to see Catholic and CAK, do they play each other in pool play?
  4. My new ranking is as follows: Webb Farragut Harden Valley Catholic CAK/Bearden I can't figure CAK or Bearden out. They should be blowing teams away. Catholic has passed both of them. Webb simply looks great.
  5. I think it will be CAK and Catholic, I loved South and I assume CAK will win the region, and South theirs, but I like the Catholic team.
  6. In the state I don't really see anyone beating CAK if they play to there talent level. They are big and pass well. Still I can't explain what happened at the Early Bird. EB were you there?
  7. I know where I will be Sept 3! Irish, not really. They lost a couple of strong players but the talent level is so deep they won't miss them. CAK is much like Webb in that they have a great advantage having middle schools on campus. 8th graders can practice with the high school and the coaches get to direct the feeders. After this weekend I am sold on Farragut and Webb being the top tier. I think HV will beat Bearden and after Sat Catholic clearly out played CAK.
  8. CAK has the most talent in Knoxville and I would expect them to be the favorite to win the state. However, Catholic and Sullivan South both did better in the Early Bird. I really liked SS setter, number 1.
  9. Do Webb and Farragut play soon? If so that one is on my to do list. I have watched Bearden a couple of times and I am not real impressed with the coaching. I was way high on CAK early, think they have the best top to bottom talent in Knoxville. How did they fall so low to Bronze in the Early Bird. Catholic, with less talent did much better. Did CAK have people out? This is still August, so the teams that have the best coaches will improve the most.
  10. I think the reason is talent level. CAK is the defending state champion and loaded with talent. I watched a lot of vb this weekend. I would go the following: Farragut Webb Catholic Harden Valley CAK Just based on this weekend. I was really surprised that CAK did not make the gold or silver. There was a clear talent drop off out of the gold and silver.
  11. if I had to rank, and I think it is still way too early, but based just on talent and coaching, by that I mean potential, where I would expect them to be, I would do this: Webb CAK Harden Valley Farragut Catholic I really like Webb. Solid team, knows how to win, great coaching. CAK and Harden Valley have a lot of players who can really play. Farragut is my question mark team. I like their star player,, really like her, but I don't know if she can carry a team or if they can get her the ball enough to be effective, they have a good L but the S is a question. As far as Catholic I have no idea why you wouldn't put them in the top five. Great volleyball school, good athletes, solid coach.
  12. I don't know how to respond. Hames at Webb is, in my humble opinion, the best player in Knoxville right now. Has a huge upside, and will continue to develope, but I would not say she is the "best ever? ". The Farragut player is solid, and a really good player, but not in the discussion. The Bearden middle has the size, and could be a special player. I think she is making a big mistake playing at Bearden, if I were her I would immediately transfer to Webb to play with Hames and be coached by Hames. Keep in mind "committing" is not the same as "signing" and I am not impressed with the Bearden coaching.
  13. I wouldn't write Catholic off. They were a fun team to watch last season. I don't disagree with the top five, but Bearden shouldn't be that high and Webb shouldn't be that low. Again, I think you must be a Farragut parent. It wouldn't surprise me if Farragut or Beaden loses to Harden Valley. To be honest, I don't think any of these teams will be as good as they were last year. CAK. Bearden, Catholic and Harden Valley lost really good coaches, and they have been replaced with young coaches with no real experience. I promise you that if the football positions were open they wouldn't have been filled with first time coaches. I expect the quality of play to drop. Farragut lost its best players from a great team, and Webb just doesn't have the numbers. I don't see these teams doing as well as they did last year.
  14. You must be the Farragut players mother or father! Is this post a joke?
  15. I am torn on this one. I agree that the Bearden player does nothing to help herself by playing high school. If I were the Nebraska coaches I would say work hard in club. Even with her I don't see Bearden going very far, and what does she gain by playing. The Farragut player needs to play. I think she needs the experience.
  16. It is part of the project. The Sansom complex is being developed near the Worlds Fair sight. It will not be used for volleyball and basketball. I was contacted last summer about the feasibility of a multi use facility that could compliment with what the Emerald Valley Center is trying to grow and was told that this facility was not to compete with but compliment what HT Hackney was funding. The fastest growing population center in East Tenn is along the Emory Road corridor. 55000 people live within five miles of the I-75 powell exit. The plans are to develope the Powell by pass along the lines of Turkey Creek. The west Knoxville community is aging out. The young families and young money are moving to north Knox County. It is projected that within the next ten years another 50000 people, primarily thirty year old young families will make the North Knoxville area what West Knoxville was 10-15 years ago. Our firm determined that the North Knoxville area around the Emory Road exit would be the logical choice to build the facility
  17. Sorry, I don't really get on here that often. Many of the posts are pretty negative, and I don't really care to engage that much. I did look back at the post, and I will try to respond. There is a group of developers who are looking to build a sports complex in the north Knoxville area off I-75. It will house 6 basketball courts and between 8-10 volleyball courts. It can also be used as an indoor soccer facilty. Outside will be a baseball/softball quad which can also be used for soccer fields. They were waiting for the Powell by-pass to open and are scouting locations. The investors have deep connections to some of the top local basketball and volleyball programs. The plan is to build a volleyball club to compliment what Fury does with Basketball. The basketball component is already committed, as is baseball/softball. The volleyball idea follows the model being used in other markets. 1) limit teams to the number of quality coaches. Don't take Everybody and then stick them with recent high school players or non trained coaches 2) start with Elementary and middle and build upward 3) focus on quality as opposed to quantity The problem that most clubs, k2 including, has is funding. Their business model is built on numbers not quality. As a result the product gets diluted. Niow please don't get on here and ATTACK this idea as being stupid, because it is not, I don't know the timing, but it is moving forward. They are involved in all of the sports, including volleyball, right now, making sure there are few growing pains.
  18. Who is the new Bearden coach?
  19. Good posts. Clubs can be well run or poorly run. The two knoxville clubs are not funded well enough to do much more than what they are doing. The "cussing" thing seems to be more of a southern thing. Personally, it shouldn't happen. My college coach never cussed. Screamed, yes, cussed no. The problem is the local coaches, for the most part, have little actual coaching experience. They may know about volleyball, but don't have the training to actually coach. Also, the purpose of club should be to improve your overall play. With that being said, I agree with the idea of the elite player not playing high school. But that is the ELITE player. Certainly the Nebraska commit made the right choice. There are a couple of more including a local sophomore that would benefit from not playing high school, but everyone else should play in high school. As to CBFO, it seems to be a moneymaker which is about all it is. I don't know if it really does anything to help the girls. If they are having fun that's great, but don't elect much. The program at the Emerald Center seems way better.
  20. I have not heard that, but I would expect him to be courting courting the people that are considering building a facility pretty hard. I am surprised this isn't being talked about more on here. There is a group, including a volleyball person, planning to build a multi million dollar sports complex in knoxville. It would be perfect to host a club and three or four AAU basketball teams. They have the money, and are looking at locations. I don't think they would contract with either K2 or KVA. They are dipping their toe into the club water to get a feel. They have the financial resources to bring in out of town people to develop the club. Their plan is to build the facility then create a type flight club program and help grow the basketball. They are well connected in both communities. I think they would stay away from the existing clubs because of what you read on here. They want a well run club without the drama, and want to deliver a higher caliber product then what is available. My two cents is that it will happen. Probably in 2-3 years. They are going about it the right way. No agenda other than these are savy business people, one of which is well connected to volleyball and another to basketball. They know that to make money it has to be well staffed, parent and athlete friendly, and they need to own their own facility instead of renting. The timing of opening the connector from I-75 to west knoxville is key. They are seeing how club works this year, quietly, and will start interviewing during next season with a summer 2016 target date. They will be patient, and won't have to make money the first few years. They are talking to the major clubs figuring out how to grow an East TN club. It's pretty exciting.
  21. I agree, although new to this board, respectfully there are some top flight people in East Tenn not associated with any club. Big Blue, I reread your post and I cannot agree. The Knoxville market is the perfect market to start a top flight club. Your post is why. Leave Phoenix out because they don't factor into the conversation. KVA lacks the funding, business experience, or truthfully the desire to exist more than another season or two. K2 is better, but they are more hype than quality. Parents are loyal because they don't really have anything to compare it to. A combined Volleyball basketball facility in Knoxville will explode. Look at Louisville? Also, a club like this will recruit coaches who can take some of the high school jobs, and work with, not against, the high school teams to help the player. It will establish a real It will happen...sooner than you think.
  22. I agree with both of you. A well run club will explode in this market, but it takes seeing what not to do before you can see what a great club can do. In Louisville and Nashville the same type of growing pains occurred. The first thing that has to happen is someone with REAL money has to get involved. This is already being discussed. It will take approximately 2 million to build a facility that will service both basketball and volleyball. This model works great in the big volleyball markets. None of the three clubs have any cash. They are struggling, financially, to keep a float. Second, the money people will provide a business person to operate the financial side who will handle the budget and who will operate the club and facility. This can't be a parent, or a coach, and none of the three clubs have access to this type of business experience. Third, the money/business people will have to have access to the volleyball/basketball community to recruit and TRAIN real coaches who are committed to providing a great experience for he athletes, with no AGENDA other than providing quality services for fair prices. A well run business. Not only will it happen in two to three years, it has started. These people are business savy, have the money, and well respected in both the volleyball and basketball communities. It will be fun to watch.
  23. Here's an idea. Reach out to one of the above coaches and hire someone with real experience and have them mentor a young coach like Cara for three or four years until she is ready. Don't just throw her to the wolves. Has anyone reached out to these Oldies but Goodies to see if they have any gas left in the tank?
  24. I don't care, that's the K2ruth! Sides, not a criticism, just a fact! Give me any one of the above coaches for both Hames to coach a competitive team. Give me either one of the Hames over ALL of the above coaches to make MONEY off of coaching a team.
  25. A coach should not have any agenda but helping teach the girls.
