  1. Neely broke his leg early in football season and is out for the year I believe. He is a good left handed post for LA. Hayes had a hurt hamstring too I believe awhile back. Haven't heard how he is doing lately. I could see this scenario playing out as well. How is the big kid from Central? If he can play, I put them at 4 and making their first region appearance. Season is just around the corner! I can't wait for roundball!
  2. With new classification period coming up for the 2017-2018 season, this could be the last year with Macon and York in this district. I know roundball is still a couple months away, but it's fun to talk about it. Here's my take on the district this year. Upperman looked pretty good this summer, McWilliams and Endicott will be two front runners for POY, the addition of a senior from LA will help them. Macon looked pretty good also. They played without Carlisle quite a bit, look to be a big squad with a couple good shooters to go with Ashburn, also potential POY. Smith will be pretty young, as they have no seniors but return two of the best players in the district with Shepperson and King, both potential POY candidates. These 5 players above to me are my predictions to be on 1st team all-district. LA just lost Neely for the year, which is a big blow to them, but Hayes and Miller will be tough to guard for anyone. Central Magnet lost their best returning player to Blackman, but they will be scrappy. York will be pretty young, with only 1 returning starter I believe. It will be interesting to see how they do without Blevins. Cannon will be scrappy and play hard. Not sure who their best player is. DeKalb should be better this year as they only lost one senior. Harpole, Poss, and Evans should be their go to guys. I see the district shaking up like this: 1. Macon 2. Upperman 3. Smith 4. DeKalb 5. Livingston 6. Cannon 7. Central Magnet 8. York The top 3 could go either way. 4-8 could go either way also. This district, as close as it was last year, might be even closer this year.
  3. Rumored that the coach from Smith County is a front runner?? Also an assistant from Lebanon??
  4. Magnet takes on Macon at 5:30 and LA vs York at 8:30. Should be two good games.
  5. Smith County gets a win over York tonight in Jamestown 50-46 to remain in first place heading into Baxter Tuesday night.
  6. Smith won 63-56. Upperman wins by 41! Up 33-3 at one point. Cannon beats York, and Macon beats DeKalb. The 1 seed getting a bye is going to be big for whoever gets it.
  7. Couldn't agree more on Smith... They seem to play at the level of their competition at times. LA is coming on strong at the right time. I think LA and Smith are both two teams no one really expected to be where they are. Can they survive the second time through district schedule is the question?
  8. York beat DC by 12, and Upperman beat MC by 15 or so. anybody know about LA vs Magnet and Smith at Cannon?
  9. I'll take SC over CC, UHS over MC, CM upsets LA, and YAI over DC.
  10. Magnet plays hard and well coached, just does not have the athletes or consistent scoring currently to be considered a top 4 team. District is very balanced. I think 3 or 4 losses might win the district. If one team can win the district out right without being tied it will be amazing. Looking at region tournament, I do like 8AA's top 4 to possibly sweep 7AA.
  11. Smith beats Clarkrange 57-44. District play starts up again next week.
  12. LA beats Central 50-49, Smith over Cannon 62-50, York over Dekalb 72-42.
  13. Central Magnet with a big W over Cannon County, 61-56! Smith County beats York by 2 on a last second shot by Huff! Upperman dominated DeKalb. Gonna be an interesting year in 8AA! Let the fun begin!
