True, but they beat East Nashville by 18 when York only beat EN at home by 11. They are a better team, especially defensively, than they’ve shown so far in substate and the quarterfinals. I think a blowout/comfortable Westview win is the most likely outcome, but I could see the Viqueens keeping it close if they have a hot shooting night. It would be foolish to overlook any team that’s made it to the state semis, especially with WV coming off an emotional rematch win over York. Hopefully should be a great game! #10 for Westview is legit. I expect huge crowds for both sides.

Thoughts? I could see the Viqueens maybe hanging with York (only lost by 1 in the sectional last year) but Westview seems like a much tougher matchup for them.

What a wild game. Gutsy comeback by Community. Do they have a chance to upset in the semis? They’ll be heavy underdogs. Simmons is a terrific player, but they have shooters as well.

I hadn’t watched either of these teams this year before this game. Was this a rough performance by Upperman? Or just a defensive masterclass by SS? Upperman looked like they had no answer to the defensive pressure and lost their composure a bit. Either way, congrats to SS and both teams on great seasons, and good luck to SS in the rest of the tournament!

As someone who was at the game tonight, I was impressed with Smith County. They seemed to have a strong game plan, missed maybe one free throw, and just seem in general really well-coached on the fundamentals. I’m a bit puzzled by their record. They seem a much better team than 14-18. It may have just been a performance for the ages by them, but they gave a very good Community team all they could handle tonight, including that outrageous three to send it to OT. Nothing to be ashamed about. Congrats to Community! You could see how much it meant to them in that gym tonight. And congrats to SC on a great season!

Home advantage is huge. Community should be a big favorite to advance IMO. Senior team with excellent floor awareness and discipline. They have a great shot, playing at home against a Cinderella in Smith County. Can’t count on anything this late in the game, however. But winning the region and avoiding the rampaging beast that is York was enormous. York should handle East Nashville. That’s about the extent of my knowledge. Should be a fun classification to watch!

Agreed. This is Community’s first state appearance on the boy’s side since the 1940s.

What an incredible win by Community tonight to advance to the state tournament. A year after losing 4 starters, they beat a team the Vikings collapsed against in last year’s sectional. If they can hang with a team as athletic as East, even though East didn’t play a full schedule, they have a chance to make a decent run. They have such a fun, throwback play style that is incredibly refreshing to watch.

Congratulations to Community! Some called for upsets (and they had a point, perhaps), but Community proved the doubters wrong with a thorough beatdown tonight in the championship. East and Pearl are both great teams, but the Vikings will be a tremendously difficult out in their home gym with their huge base of fan support. All credit to one of the smallest AA schools managing to go 32-1.

Well, it was little bit nervy there in the 3rd and 4th quarters but CHS is through to the championship. Hard to beat a team 4 times, but Community was really rolling in the 2nd. Central Magnet had 2 points the entire 2nd quarter. Congrats to Central on a very good season! And big congrats to the Vikings. 31-1 so far! Really impressive stuff.

Who you got and why? A lot of people called for Community to be upset in Round 1. Does it happen here?

Sorry posted it twice. They've been full of excellent play and both came down to the wire. Good luck to Gibson County and South Greene. Community and Middleton just as easily could've been playing for the title too. Should be a good one
