  1. Given the way it lines up, you may have as much as a 33% chance of getting Cleveland 1st round
  2. So next year.... Top half: Cleveland(1 seed), Brentwood (loses seed- opposite side of Summit), ? and ? Bottom half: Halls (2 seed), Summit (3 seed), Bradley (opposite Cleveland), and ? and one of those question marks is going to be DB
  3. You just didn't get caught. This is last years, but it hasn't changed in years.... https://cms-files.tssaa.org/documents/tssaa/media/MediaRegulations.pdf I-B2: "If a TSSAA state playoff event is selected for broadcast by a SBP School or the NFHS Network, no other entity will be allowed to broadcast the event via the Internet or television." Also I-D "Any media entity or school that is not a member of the SBP wishing to Internet stream or tape delay television broadcast any football playoff games or sectional tournaments/games for all other sports must submit their request to the TSSAA in writing for that event. The request must be submitted at least three days prior to the event in question. This includes state championship events not covered by the NFHS Network. If approved, a fee will be negotiated."
  4. No idea where kids will fall in their weight classes... Dual results is really the only thing to speculate. I know there was a big fuss about the brackets of state duals this year, what nobody is mentioning is the exact same thing is set up to happen next year. Cleveland will be the 1 seed- obviously, and now Halls will be the 2 seed. Halls only loses a few starters and Maryville graduates several. Nobody else in Region 2 is on that level, so Halls is a strong favorite to win their region. In Region 1, DB will be in the conversation again- but they will avoid Halls in the sectional as they are both clear favorites to be no. 1's. I am not sure what is happening at Science Hill, but they were wayyyy down this year (compared to their usual), and I don't see them, Jeff co or Mo-west stepping up and knocking Halls out of the 2 seed. Also, if Bradley makes it to state again- they will be opposite Cleveland. So 3 of those bottom 4 slots of the bracket would be Halls, Bradley and whoever keeps their seed between Summit and Brentwood.
  5. It has something to do with the rules of filming TSSAA post-season events, not the venue. Diamond Clear media used to stream almost every high school football game in this area online- including the playoffs. They got away with it for a year or two, then TSSAA found out and BAM- all taken down.
  6. Why would you block the most entertaining guy on here? I want to hear his commentary on the state finals
  7. I really hope you are a real person.
  8. This is an example of when life is about more than just winning and losing. I get your point, some kids and parents do need to care more about the outcome of the game (to a certain extent). But every circumstance is different. Here's a not-quite-so-hypothetical example: What if "real dad" was finally able to get off work on Fridays and come to his son's football game? It's the only game he's been able to attend in his son's career, and is going to be the only one he's ever at. Thats a special moment for that kid and his father. 10 years after the fact, that picture of the two of them on the field together after the game is a heck of a lot more important than who won the game that night.
  9. I know we have the ability to seed each weight class properly... but an automatic bracket would be an improvement to the current system. D2 already does this, but D1 and girls could easily do the same thing. Girls backet: Top half: Region 1 #1 vs Region 4 # 4 Region 2 # 2 vs Region 3 # 3 Region 3 # 2 vs Region 2 # 3 Region 4 # 1 vs Region 1 #4 Bottom Half: Region 2 #1 vs Region 3 # 4 Region 1 # 2 vs Region 4 #3 Region 4 # 2 vs Region 1 #3 Region 3 #1 vs Region 2 #4 For Boys- change the word sectional for region and bam- exact same thing. I know its not a perfect system, but a thousand times better than what is used now.
  10. Reading the new rule - you technically can lose in regions, but then win sectionals- and still keep your seed? Did I read that correctly ?
  11. What all did I miss? Instead of digging through Track, can people talk about what they saw through week 1? Any shake ups in rankings -whether it be duals or individuals. Also any cross-division matches that were surprising?
  12. They are the two best teams in the state, and only about 45 minutes apart. Even on an extremely down year for each program, they are still 2 of the top 10 teams (usually top 5) in the state. You would think that it would be one of the normal dates each program put on the schedule each year.
  13. Freshman QB will be playing tonight- he's been running with the 1's all week
  14. Would like to know who your "reliable sources" - People inside Powell High School what official protocol you are mentioning? - TSSAA return to play protocol- shared link in my last post The backup QB did just fine sealing the win. - I agree, and it's not impossible for him to pull off the upset this Friday- However West (especially their defense) is much stronger than Sevier County IMO
  15. https://cms-files.tssaa.org/documents/tssaa/forms/Concussion-Return-to-Play-Form-updated-12.2019.pdf Scroll to bottom half of page 2. Every concussion is different, and handled differently- but every trainer has to follow a return to play protocol. Usually "day 1" starts when the athlete is symptom free.
  16. Hearing from reliable sources that the QB got a concussion. Assuming they follow protocol, he should not expect to play Friday.
  17. Your question and Coach Kilmer reference confirms what I've heard about the QB. If so, I believe West wins this one handedly.
  18. This was close to 20 years ago, but something I will always remember as the best line I have ever heard about multiple sport athletes. When my youngest son was a Freshman at a school here in Knox County (one that was winning several state championships in multiple sports mind you) we had a parent meeting for freshman football team. The athletic director came in and spoke to us. He told every single parent in the gym, "If you believe your son is athletic enough to ever start for us, or to at least get serious playing time, then he needs to be playing at least 2 sports for our school. If you believe your son is good enough to see playing time as a sophomore or younger, then he needs to be playing 3."
  19. I like Halls in a close one. I believe this game may also decide who gets a home playoff game round 1, and who hits the road.
  20. Unfortunate for your son, however, I'd suggest volunteering to be that age group's coach in the future if its that bad. You have to remember that all of those coaches are volunteers- many of which were voluntold by other parents to do it just so that the boys can have a team.
  21. This has to be the dumbest comment I've read on here. Kudos to the wresting faithful to correct you
  22. Clearly he was making a comment on the statistics, as a counter argument of someone previously stating that 12 kids making all-state is too many. If you are too dumb to realize that, you have no business insulting anyone else's intelligence.
  23. Every sport does this. Football has has an "All - State " team for each of its divisions, usually with 4 to 6 guys listed per position. It's a note-worthy award that's been watered down over the years- nothing new to just wrestling. If you want a laugh- check out the "All-Region" teams in Football. In Tennessee, each coach gets to pick their own players that are deemed "all-region". Because of this, you usually get 6 "all-region" quarterbacks for a region that only has 6 teams.
  24. I'm actually agreeing with your argument.... but (and I hate this saying) "times are different". Kids are very different than they were 10 years ago. Just from what I have seen at the schools I have worked in- Kids don't go out for sports like they used to. Kids would rather go home and do something else. Even the kids that do play sports - whether its from their parents or their coaches- they all specialize in just one sport- two at best. Schools that used to have 100 kids on the football team now only have 50-60 kids. Again, I agree with your point about "does it really grow the sport?"- Just saying you can't really compared numbers when participation in all sports are down overall.
