  1. Looks like all the home teams won tonight. Powell vs Maryville and OR vs Bearden Tuesday night.
  2. Let the games begin! Should be a great Region 2 AAA tournament. 2018 Class AAA East Regional Boys' Basketball Tournaments Bracket My guess is is we'll see Bearden vs Maryville in the 2AAA regional championship. Good luck to all the teams!
  3. Bearden came out to play early, but after a 17 point lead at the half, they ended up down one at one point, then they managed to collect themselves to win 67-58. Joe Anderson played great, kept them in the game mostly.
  4. Here' is the bracket for regionals from TSSAA. http://tssaasports.com/event/bracket.cfm?id=20170210
  5. Bearden game was ugly. If they play like that on Tuesday, Maryville will win. Maryville is out to make a statement as well.
  6. Bracket: http://brackets.jim314.com/2018_boys.pdf#page=36
  7. Bearden still has one more regular game, tonight against AE. Should be another good game. To go 30-1 (16-0) for the season is pretty amazing, that's probably they're best start going into post season. It'll be interested to see how deep they can go. The scary part is the whole team will be back next year.
  8. II think Roman has stepped up his game recently and has been a key player. You're right, he and others are lost behind the others. Maryville played really well against the press this time, beating it easily. During the press and even not during the press, I did notice that there were a lot of shots over Pember this time, he didn't get a hand up or even leave his feet in an attempt to alter their shots. They dropped a few three pointers on him. He was a little out of place, since they played mostly with no posts last night - Shaq and Kordell were in there some though, but when Drew is "playing" post (he's a wing), I think he tends to cheat some and clog the middle leaving guys open from the outside. I sort of expect the 6'8" kid to be blocking everything that comes into the lane, and he does a lot of that, but then I see him let shots go off completely uncontested. Not picking on him, just seemed to be noticeable.
  9. I have a lot of respect for Bearden, but their game seems off a little bit and it may prove to bite them sooner than later. At least with the better teams they face, anyway. Hard to say, I know, being 28-1 (15-0). Every team they play is fired up to play them. If they're one of the better teams, seems like Bearden comes out slow and plays catchup. Most recently with Fulton, then Maryville last night. They have three games left, but I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland or even Austin-East holds them off. They also play Farragut at home. Neither game means anything from a district or beyond perspective, but if they continue to slow play against the better teams, they'll find themselves out of the running in the regions or beyond.
  10. Not sure Bearden deserved to win tonight's game vs Maryville. They had a lot of turnovers and fouls. Maryville led by 10 before Bearden woke up and drop three 3-pointers to come back. Maryville smashed their press and Joe played pretty well. I knew when he fouled out with 30 seconds left that it was over for the Rebels though.
  11. Agree, Shemarcus is toughest around the boards and blocks a lot of shots as well
  12. I'd throw the Blevins suspension and resignation into the KNS mix two years ago. Sad that its always to controversial stuff that gets the press.
  13. QSouth89, Speaking of Akeem and Pember, the Bearden guys are going to play with the BMazeElite team for AAU this summer. Here is their lineup: Akeem Odusipe, Drew Pember, Trent Stephney, Quez Glover, Dante Harris, Joe Anderson, Jaden Springer, Trey Davis, Ben Knight, Luke Bennett, Norance Berry, Drew Williams and Emory Lanier. https://twitter.com/BMaze16UA Should be fun to watch!
  14. I was there. Bearden has a habit of starting off slow, regardless of of who they play most of the time. I guess they need to be pushed. Very physical game as well. The refs were really trying to take control over the game, a few technical fouls for celebration/taunting and there seems to a fair share of offensive fouls. Ques hit some key shots down the stretch, as did Trent. Fulton lacks size, but didn't seem to matter since Pember (6'8") was sidelined with fouls and Ketterl (6'7") didn't start and play too much. Those guys are shot blocking machines.
  15. The regulator season is pretty much winding down now, looks like the top three teams are likely set for post season (Bearden, Maryville, Catholic in that order), but fourth place is interesting and yet to be determined. As of today: William Blount (5-7 in district, 9-13 overall) has LC (W last time they met), HVA (W- last time), West (W - last time) and Heritage (W - last time) to play. Hardin Valley (6-7 in district, 12-12 overall) has Bearden (L last time they met), WB (L) and Maryville (L) to play. Farragut (5-8 in district, 12-12 overall) has West (W last time they met), Heritage (L) and Bearden(L) to play. My guess is WB will go W,L,W, W to end 8-8 in the district. HVA will go L,W,L and end up 8-8 and Farragut will go W,W,L to end up 7-9. If this plays out then WB and HVA will have the same record in the district and will also have split their meetings. Of course my predictions are never right, so we'll have to wait and see!
  16. I think I just answered my own question. From the TSSAA site: On Saturday, following the completion of the district tournament, there will be four quarterfinal boys’ games with the Winner and Runner-Up teams from both districts hosting the Fourth Place and Third Place teams from the other district. Example: http://tssaa.org/division-i-basketball-region-tournament-guidelines/
  17. Help me out here, I don't remember how it works. The top four district teams play for the district championship, but do those top four automatically get to go to the regionals?
  18. Akeem is going to be beast when he's a senior. If he puts on another 20 lbs from now to then, he'll be tough to stop.
  19. I can see why considering Akeem is more of a post and Pember is more of a wing, but this past summer my son played in a AAU tournament in Cookeville and I watched the the Bearden AAU team play Akeems team (don't remember the team names). Pember guarded Akeem and shut him down, he also dropped in probably 16-18 points against him. Akeem got very frustrated. Akeem will put on some weight in the next year and expect Pember will too. Probably one of the better big man matchups around next year.
  20. I expect Akeem had a lot to do with that. When he plays varsity next year, he'll still have Pember to contend with from Bearden.
  21. Pretty huge win for WB. HVA beat Catholic as well.
  22. Agree with you guys. Don't forget Kah, who started last year. He's super aggressive and can score as well. They do have that other big kid who starts, think he's the one senior. He doesn't score much, but gets his share of rebounds and blocks a fair amount of shots. That sophomore is ineligible this year, but is tearing it up on JV. Next year they'll be even better. Oh, Bearden beat West by 8 tonight. West played pretty well.
  23. Threeball, I agree completely. I think there is a toss up for fourth. It may be the team that gets on a roll now, including Farragut and HVA. I think both are starting to play well again. Seems like the lower teams are playing well outside the district and going back and forth with the teams in district. Irishbball, while Bearden is strong, they haven't come out hard and fast recently. They do go into a new gear at some point during the game, typically the second half. Catholic was up 8-0 in the first quarter before Bearden scored and tied it up at 12 after the first, then they went on a run and scored 80 points in the next three quarters. HAV was tied up at the end of the third, then Bearden scored 40 points in the fourth! When they played West, the game was close the whole time and they only won by seven. West had a pretty bad record at that point. It'll be interesting when the play tomorrow at West and see what they do.
  24. 3 for 4 tonight, underestimated Alcoa. Schedule snafu on Wednesday games, Lenoir City played at Hardin Valley last night. Thursdays game: Farragut at Campbell County (Farragut) Fridays games: Lenoir City at Heritage (Heritage is my underdog pick) Hardin Valley at Catholic (Catholic) Bearden at West (Bearden - only beat West by seven last time) Maryville at William Blount (Maryville) Sorry, this thread has been pretty quiet. Anyone else have any predictions?
