  1. We are pretty balanced. If the line can block any.. you will see it... We have a senior who his really hungry because he's played defense the last two years.. and a junior who's in the same boat. Fearless, strong, and speedy.
  2. I can't WAIT until this game! An early season challenge for the Cardinals is great for all the kids and makes for exciting football. I've been to all the 7v7 and scrimmages. Mayfield's starters dominated but the subs gave away quite a bit. That's to be expected but the step down in confidence was noticeable. The Cards have a couple of weapons no one saw much of last year and I think they will be effective. The #1 RB was mostly defense the last couple of years and now, as a junior, looks fantastic and is hard-nosed, quick, and extremely strong. He's in the gym constantly. Receivers average 6'2" and starters have a ton of experience. As mentioned above, our place kicker is much improved on strength / distance and should be putting the ball in the endzone.
  3. Much MUCH better game for both teams this year! Credit to UC... I can see how they beat so many other teams with their offense! Soooo much better this year than last. I do think the game was pretty even until the Tornadoes ran out of steam in the 4th. Though, Mayfield did change it's defense in the 4th, too... nose-guard! It helped a bunch as that UC center is a load! I think UC is a well-coached team with some real talent. The back (21) dragged 2 of our best defenders 10 yards on that play that was whistled early. The QB last year was good but I think this one is better. The handoffs / pulls were very well done. More kids and depth and UC will be hard for anyone to stop. COMPLETELY different gameplan from Mayfield but obviously effective. I hope these two teams keep playing each other. It's a great test and I think early in the season is good as both can use the experience to help keep winning state championships! Kudos on a great game and best of luck for the rest of the season!
  4. I hope we get to see a good football game tonight here in our hometown. I think it could be lopsided on the score but who knows??!? If everyone gets through unhurt and learning something then it's worth it no matter the outcome. The radar I just looked at shows NO RAIN headed over us here... hmmm... I welcome constructive and friendly conversation after the game - no matter the outcome.
  5. I can only see UC getting maybe 1 TD. Mayfield will score 5 times minimum. It's a matchup thing... no way to stop it.
  6. I think the dynamics of MF running game is different this year... more muscle to go with the speed. There's a soph RB who is hard to stop coming on and I'm eager to see what he does at this level. Looking at last year's stats: (roughly) 400 total yards for MF and 300 for UC. With numbers that close, I think the redzone MF defense is to be commended for keeping the UC runners out of the endzone... most of those guys are back. MF def backfield will be just as tough as last year but we'll see if speed is there too. UC will have to contend with 2 hardnosed RB's and 1-2 speedsters on the MF offense (6 deep at some skilled positions). THEN we get to the passing game: Jayden Stinson is on another level from last year. I predict 400 yards of passing offense alone. SWO you coming to the infield to visit before the game?
  7. Hi Swo and Pride! This will be an interesting week! Any score predictions???
  8. Mayfield and Danville have met several times in the playoffs but last year was the first time in a while. Our Cards have had a tough time against them and only won once out of 9 or so games. Murray is supposed to be a good team this year. I'm hearing that it won't be a Mayfield blowout. Cards play them regular season but will probably see them in the playoffs as well.
  9. We're hearing that about Union City as well. Looking forward to the game here on the 17th. Several have said they think it will be closer than last year. That is certainly possible!
  10. Exaggerate much? Yes, the Cards over-pursued several times in the state championship game... no doubt about it. About the TD pass for the Ads... as much as I'd like to say conclusively that is was incomplete, I can't. According to KHSAA rules it looks like a TD. Hurts me to say it but true. VanCleve is sub 4.4 40. Very fast high school kid. Unless UC adds another dimension to their game, they won't win against our Cardinals. Period.
  11. Danville was LOADED. Had the fastest human I've ever seen in person and he scored 3 times. I'm really looking for a good UC vs Mayfield game this August. A team the caliber of UC doesn't just go in blindly without making adjustments. They always have some talent and lately they always contend for a state title. I hope they do that every year as I'm only against them for one game. Quality opponents is what I want the most for our team and UC is quality. How about some hype from the UC faithful! Anyone gone to practices? I'm sure things are coming together nicely.
  12. The Cards lost 3 on the O Line and 2 in the def backfield. Cards also lost 2 receivers. Not sure what will happen with the qb's. There are actually 4 now.
  13. This fall brings UC to War Memorial in Mayfield. What will this year's teams bring?
