  1. I think we are all in agreement as to what should happen but that's why they play the game on the field and I never count a win until it's played . As everyone else,I think Betsy will grow as the season goes along.I thought Greeneville was going to win another championship last year, but that didn't happen,so as usual,Batman will keep the bragging to a minimum and the hopes at a maximum.
  2. At this point, nobody knows how good they are. SH might have a great team this year and Elizabethton was very competitive.I'm not putting a check mark for a certain Devil win over Betsy because Greeneville won one game. Besides that,no matter that winner, it's still not the playoffs.SH has some 6A size and athletic players .Like I've always said, it's not a terrible thing for a 4A school if SH or DB beat the Devils or Betsy . My opinion is they should be able to because they should have great coaches and a strength program as does Elizabethtown and Greeneville. The only difference being the size of those four schools. That is supposed to be an advantage and the reason there are so many state championships held every year.
  3. That's definitely an uphill battle. The young man just done something he shouldn't have .Not even talking about the possibility of injuries,it was something that cost his team and a very illegal play. Pretty simple, he shouldn't have made the hit on a defenseless player looking up for a ball.
  4. First,I hope the young man is ok.I love to watch football and like most parents, enjoyed the ride when my son's played sports. I never want to see a young man hurt and definitely don't miss that part of having one on the field. I wish for both players, the young man from SH wouldn't have delivered that shot . There's nothing wrong with a good clean hit and we all love that about the sport as long as everyone gets up . We preach as parents and coaches to our young men,"get bigger, stronger, faster",and want them to be tough as nails. Sometimes, having control and doing the right thing gets cloudy with many players at every level.I hope once again the young man is ok from Elizabethtown,( he is a tough young man for sure) and the other gains an understanding of what his actions could have done and learns from it.None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes . It's what we do to correct them that defines us.Lord knows, I'm still learning, best to both teams going forward
  5. I don't have a clue how the teams will matchup. So,the Devil in me will say 34-21 Greeneville and that is a total guess at this point.
  6. I see your point and understand whatever those three schools are doing separates them from most everyone else in this part of the state .Still ,I can't imagine Alcoa having 1500 students and those extra 800 or 900 being as talented as what they are now at their size. They would probably go whip the big Orange to get ready for the season. As for Greeneville , I'll try not to beat the dead horse from a few years ago, "but" if Sevier and Robinson can both compete and beat Greeneville middle, how can both together not beat Greeneville four years later at DB. Anyway, this is a new year and we will see what the Tribe has for my old Devils.
  7. From someone who has been around both programs at some point for several decades. How times have changed since I was a kid.Yeah,I know they have cars instead of horses but this would have never been posted back in the 1900's for sure. DB really should hardly ever lose to a smaller NET team.Every now and then you have a team like TH in the early seventies or programs like Greeneville and Elizabethton have built over the last couple of decades but DB has the resources just the same as those schools and many more students to boot. I know DB has some fine coaches as well. It wouldn't shock me to see DB not lose to a local school over the next ten years .Even if Greeneville has the better strength program, DB should have more quality depth to counter that. We will see.
  8. Some good reading. The good old days were not always the best or smartest thing.I remember hearing a story from a 1950's Greene Devil and one practice that was fitting for the time .It was lightning all around the place and buckets of rain was falling. The Devil coach was tough and acting as if it was a beautiful sunny day. All of a sudden, lightning literally struck the practice field.Without saying a word, coach just pointed and the team ran off the field as coach followed.
  9. In the Mavs case, sometimes being great at the wrong time happens.I met a great boxer back around the mid seventies,Jerry Quarry.A lot of younger people have probably never heard of him because he came along when the golden age of heavy weight boxing was happening. Most have heard of Ali, Frazier and big George Foreman to name a few. Now days the same happened to Deontay Wilder. No doubt he could be considered the greatest or right there if not for Tyson Fury. Maybe some day, AC will have things line up as the Devils and Betsy have had.Either way ,I have to admire Mavericksinflight's support for his team.
  10. The back and forth makes for good reading . Every now and then I'll do a little talking for fun but I never count a win until it's in the books. No doubt the Mavs will have another fine team and the Devils should always be a tough match with the system in place. I do my best to never look past any team on the schedule, sometimes that's hard but programs like Elizabethton,AC and all the top knoxville area teams will have my full respect going into that game. When the playoffs come around,I don't care who you line up against, that team has already proven it is capable of winning and should be considered a danger to your program and you never look past them. Tennessee baseball was the beast this year and by all rights should still be playing if the players and coaches all had done their job better then that team Greeneville shares something in common with.
  11. I remember as a 9th grader before that 1976 game, they were playing a tape in the weight room that was supposed to have been sent from Kingsport.Probably something one of our own coaches made up,ha. Anyway, the Tribe done what was said on the tape, even if the Devils were fired up.
  12. First,I agree that with what coach had to face last year,it was a great job.I truly hope the Vols can get back to being a contender again in the next few years .I have long ago took off my orange shades ( after the 1998 season and championship ) and see things a lot more as they are . Football takes a great system and time to build from where Tennessee is starting and I believe Josh at least earned the right to be given a few more years to recruit and see how it works out . I remember myself and BVD meeting coach Fulmer not long after he took over that job and what he said to me . I said him signing my old UT ball cap would make it worth a lot more. He smiled and said I'd probably want to burn it one of these days . I've never wanted to burn it but BVD did burn a bunch of another UT coaches stuff later on,guy named Kiffin....
  13. Just my opinion here.Greeneville will be good every year as long as the foundation that was put down over the last couple of decades , stays in place. Will they win a gold ball this year or soon, nobody knows until each season is over.I personally think the Devils could have one, if not two more gold balls already in the trophy case since Coach Ballard retired. I might be the only person that thinks so because it does take a lot of things to go right and only one or two to go wrong. Elizabethton has a great program and as I said this past year, there are also no guarantees when you head west in the playoffs now days, and it couldn't have been more of a fact . As to the DB fan and Greeneville coming up to Kingsport.DB has some very good coaches that I personally know and like .They have two big middle schools and three times the players as Greeneville to build a team from. It's not a stretch for DB to send my Devils home with a pretty solid "L". There is a reason until a couple of decades ago that the Devils hardly ever beat DB and I just explained a big part of it.Anyway,I hope everyone in every part of the state has a good year until football season gets here and we all get to enjoy the sport we love ,win or lose...
  14. I'm sure there are a lot of players and coaches that have accounts on Coacht .I know a few going back to the days a couple of my kids played sports in Kingsport.Shoot I'd have an account if I were a coach, the same as when I had sons playing.I straight up said who I was with my first account and the better half didn't like that I had used the family name.So being a smart azz,the movie Batman was showing in the theater that year and my wife's name was perfect for me to just become Batman with the name Batmandb and Batmandevil later for my own school. It would be hard not to have a Coacht account if I were a coach or coaches son . Yeah I know , it's a lot smarter to not do that or at least not be straight up about who you are. I guess that's why I like a lot of the posters from Maryville and Alcoa, because they came up to me years ago and introduced themselves.Every now and then I tell how RR from Maryville walked up behind me and said ," Batman ".Yes,my first thoughts were to go back to my old martial arts days but like Stars and all those Maryville and Alcoa folks,he was a super nice guy.
  15. You can tell something is right by the yearly outcome. As to a scrimmage or other things like JV games, that's kind of a gray area. Some schools are just loaded like Alcoa and whoever goes out on the field is going to compete well. Some schools will send out their best against another schools backups or just work on what needs fixing and you don't really have a clue to how good they are.I seen that when DB would scrimmage Maryville several years ago .When it came to the real deal, that's when you knew Maryville had another gear or two and a few hundred horses they hadn't shown.
  16. Without reading through what everyone thinks,I will give an analogy with Alcoa and boxing.Their size is like a Roberto Duran who was a great champion and won in four different classes . Alcoa not only beats the light and middle weights as Duran did, they step up and fight the 300 pounders as well.Sometimes they knock those guys out and sometimes they lose close hard fought games like the yearly Maryville game.Pound for pound,Alcoa is many times better then nearly every public school in the state and what other schools, private included have done better in the trophy room over the last couple of decades. That's why folks put them up at the top when talking about programs and it's hard to argue against.
  17. Lot of fans from many teams have been eating crow for several weeks and that happens when folks are 100% whatever colors their team wears and don't see the potential negatives or potential positives another team may have. Not everyone said this game would be a blowout and there are some very classy Elizabethton fans .Did I think Elizabethton would win,yes but I thought it would be a war .Going back a few weeks, did I think Greeneville would be the state champion this year . Well, to this day I still think they had the players on this years roster to do it but so did Betsy and Tullahoma.Bottom line is all the ifs ands and buts don't matter because Tullahoma is the very much deserving state champs ...
  18. Most definitely east Tennessee,Actually just under 30 miles from Greene county to Knox county on a straight line between the two according to google maps
  19. Ha,If it was a joke,it would be a very bad one.Shows what this computer knows about football. If that was my poll, first thing I'd do is burn the computer I used and never post or print such a thing.Wonder how long the odds makers in Vegas would use this poll for betting odds ? OK,I'll take Oakland and 21 for any amount against all the teams ranked ahead of them.Yeah, that would go over well.
  20. Don't know the coach but from everything I've read, he sounds like a great coach and person. As to them being the very best team in 4A,well I guess that was proven last week on the field. You can reread everything I posted over the last several months when it came to this year and what I thought was going to happen.Early on,I thought this would be the hardest road my team or Elizabethton had to take in order to bring back the gold. Greeneville I thought had the players and coaches to get it done but so did Georgia this past weekend against Alabama. We might have had the studs to get it done but the Elizabethton coaches seen enough game film and done a great job of getting their team prepared and their players got it done when it counted in our game. The championship game was a classic and both Tullahoma and Elizabethton fought to the bitter end and then fought a couple more rounds.Best championship game I've ever seen in highschool football and I just hate either one had to take home a silver instead of gold. Congratulations to Tullahoma and Elizabethton for being the two best teams in 4A when it counted the very most.
  21. Every fan base has it's share of excited fans.Except maybe Alcoa and Maryville . I guess after you win that many rings, there's not a lot to say and no need to toot your own horn at that point.
  22. I was pulling for Betsy but this was one of those games that you just hate to see either side lose.I thought it was an elephant balls move for the Tullahoma coach to go for the touchdown and did understand why he done it with a guaranteed three sitting there. Yes,he would have been the goat but not the Tom Brady type had they lost .I think he figured the Elizabethton team would be forced to score and most likely it wouldn't have been a field goal.He knew it and after the game was very classy in saying his team bailed him out.
  23. Ha,now that makes sense, figured you meant that after the next post or two.
  24. I haven't seen Summit but if they can beat Oakland by that much, they are hands down the best team in the state
