Great assessment. 2 quality teams on the court and a late February/early March atmosphere.

I personally do not think he will touch the field until maybe year 3, but Saban knows something about football for sure. I wouldn't know his little brother if I saw him walking down the street, but I've heard he's got a cannon for an arm and is tracking like big brother did at that age. I agree. It'll be fun just watching to see how it turns out.

That's true, but the kid has 41 D1 offers per their local radio station. I think his exposure started in Jr High and continued on. His brother is like a 6th grader up there and already has an offer (verbal of course) from Oregon. Skill positions usually transcend classification levels, not to mention I believe he put up over 10K yardage (passing & rushing) in his high school career. When Clemson, UT, Texas, Bama, Georgia, LSU are flying in.....I don't think it hinged on the 2A games. IMO

I'll take a split with them and be happy,,,,,,in regular season. Harrison isn't Williams and Bonds and they have 4 starters that can legitimately play at the next level, if they all wanted to. I think it'll come down to our big girl vs. their big girl and who wants it the most. I still say that GC is the favorite...but I enjoy being in the underdog role more often than being the one chased....until the end.

I agree. WV won't be tested until they play in that Nike event. I'm looking forward to our matchups this year and expect at least 4 with them...at a minimum.

I could also agree with TCA being right there at 4,5,6 for the West Teams.

The Jackson Sun is what it is......I don't use those words. Here's the "real" rankings and I watch a lot of ball and know the team makeups. 1. Gibson County 2. Westview 3. South Side 4/5. McKenzie or South Gibson 6-10: the Rest

Not a diss to the Lady Rebels, but they're not in that category yet. They're definitely good and I think they'll be a lot better as the season goes on. I know that we're pretty solid and we take care of the ball, have scorers, and play a style that makes other teams uncomfortable. Wilkins will always have us prepared for any team. Westview just reloads and brings the next one or two up every year from Jr High and they have a Junior in Harrison that is being sought by several big D1 powerhouse programs and they've added a freshman to their arsenal that scored over 20 the other night and is on the US National Softball Team. GC and WV are deep this year and I don't think the Rebels have the depth to match. Like I said, not a diss, but an honest observation.

I don't believe they could have in all honesty. All of Westview's players are local and grew up there, and went to school in Martin..so there are e a couple of disadvantages for Westview in the comparison of the two schools/programs and where all of their players who are on the team are from. That's not a slight to Alcoa, but that's the honest truth. I do think WV would have been able to put points up on them, but Alcoa is Alcoa and the rest of the State understands what they're up against in 3A with Alcoa and even with dealing with Maryville as well in 6A. Westview's QB would've still been the best player on the field in that contest, but it takes 11 and I believe Alcoa's line play would've probably been too much for Westview considering the "depth" of Alcoa.

Good post. Why everyone was talking about Westview's offense being great, the Martin folks knew they had a very good defense as well. I was told this past week that in the prior 6 games, Westview hadn't allowed a TD or a point in the 2nd half. I guess that makes that 7 now, but Westview had an all around great 3 phase game. I was also at the Peabody game that WV lost early in the season, and I was proud of my fellow Gibson County team for winning...but Westview got hosed by officiating in that game on at least 3 calls and WV had a field goal that was good before halftime, but was called no good. The Peabody tv? control people quit playing it on the replay tvs during halftime, because they knew it was a bad call. It happens in every game a call or two, here or there, but it wasn't even close to being a miss. I have a lot of respect for WV due to their fanbase and their class in all situation and games. Great season by both Westview and Hampton. Nothing to hold anyone's head down about. You'll be back and congrats to both programs.

...you got half of your prediction correct. WV is explosive and their defense is better than people were giving them credit for. Great season for both programs. Nothing to be ashamed of to get a Silver one in the first appearance.

I predict this topic will be dominated by the Hampton faithful. Westview is located about 30 minutes North of us and one thing for sure, their fans don't get on CoachT and talk smack. We contend with them every year in girls basketball and their fans and teams are always class acts. I don't know what Hampton has or does not have, but to be playing for the State Championship....everyone is now good. Pulling for our neighbors to the North, but I'm sure it'll be a great game. I feel good about our chances too, but we're not dismissing WV up there either. No one goes 9 times in a row because they're just lucky and they're loaded too. Thanks for the compliment though, but these rankings and records dont really matter until March. Let's keep both of our programs rollin' and getting better.

So early in the season, but enjoy watching two great programs go and play each other so intensely. Both teams should be better at the end. Hope SS and GC make deep,deep runs this year!

Where did that lineback #35 for WV come from? That cat was all over the field tonight. He must've had 14-17 tackles. He'd look good in black & gold! One stretch, it looked like he had like 6 tackles alone. Everywhere on the field.

We plan on winning all of them.......whether it happens or not who knows, but that's our plan. Don't tell 'em.

It wasn't a catch, but the WR sold it good. I saw the trap because I was on the fence at ground level over there and could see the ball on the ground underneath him. The official on the play at the catch location didn't make the call, it was the back judge about 20 yards away who ruled in a catch. I could not see from my vantage point about the WVs player's foot being down or not from where I was at. I don't know what the penalty distribution was for each team, but we had a lot fewer called on us. Good game and good luck the rest of the way. I hate to see games dictated by officials, but it happens.

I didn't like the penalty when your receiver gave the 1st down sign after a catch either in the 1st quarter. He didn't stand over our player or taunt him. He just gave a first down sign. That was a bush league call and I saw one of our guys do it in the 4th. Great game and y'all have a good team. Good luck to y'all and hope you represent down the road. Appreciate both teams sportsmanship and respect for each other. Win or lose, that's how it should be.

From a "semi-neutral" party, Peabody caught more breaks than WV tonight. I'm on your side on who I wanted to win, but I'm keeping it real. A horse collar happens from the back, not the front or side and it wasn't a horse collar. We also got fortunate with a football that was "trapped" by the receiver on our side around the 25 yard line on the South end of the field. Officiating was horrible (both ways). They should send a "real" crew to these types of games. Certainly, they had people available with the other games cancelled. Oh well, on to the next one up. Let's get it!

I stand corrected on the margin. Wow, what a game! Much better ball game than I expected. As bad as I hate to say this, the Tide got away with 3 holding penalties on the last drive on 3 straight plays and right in front of the white hat...much less good break with a clock stoppage that shouldn't have occurred. I'm proud for Peabody for continuing to roll and glad for the W, but WV actually played a lot better than I thought they could. My apologies to your Martin folks for saying that about your line. They actually did better than I thought they could. Great sportsmanship between both teams and that comes from great coaching. I think both of these teams should do well in the playoffs. Note: Whomever is in charge of officiating needs to be fired though. The ref was out of his league for this type of game. Peabody should roll until we see Dyersburg, but hopefully that White Hat will not be on the field. #atrociousofficiating #rollTideroll
