  1. Okay I guess I’m a little biased and a homer but I can’t believe the Soddy 06/07 team is not getting any considerations. Most if lineup I can recall….. Hammons (multiple placer) stewart (placed every year) brett (2x placer) Witt (2x placer) Fuller (3x placer and finalist) Winesburg (state champ, multi placer) Mccroskey (multi placer, socon champ) Toney (multi placer and finalist) Spletzer (placer) Roberson (2x state champ) Lettner (State champ) Zimmerman (Placer) if I recall they beat Baylor that year 29-28 or so in which the last three matches…… Stewart beat Whitaker (4x champ) Brett beat Stavrum (Finalist?) Witt beat Downey (Finalist) that Baylor team was stacked with studs manley bell hussein doster waddell etc……, May not be all time best, but definitely in consideration when it comes to depth and consistency.
  2. Alright, I guess I'll weigh in on the situation and give my honest opinion of everything. First off, I would like to start with recruiting. I personally can give a couple examples of where UTC dropped the ball with local kids and out of state kids as well. Maybe they were not the right fit, things didn't work out logistically, etc. I'm sure Bedard is happy Heath passed on Tucker Russo and went to someone else, even though tucker would definitely be the starter at 157 in my opinion from watching whom UTC has now. I have seen him past on kids here without giving them a chance as well as some studs doing well at other schools now. It starts with getting the best in Chattanooga and we have alot of good ones here just look at the national events they place in. Heath is a GOOD coach, not GREAT by no means, but very GOOD. I mean its not like UTC can pay its staff a combine 1 million a year like others, so you get what you pay for. The staff from what I seen could be better in my honest opinion, but is still probably the 2nd or 3rd best in the conference. I don't think UTC is falling in the SOCON, but I think others are catching up with the likes of APP State and Campbell. Its hard for kids whom are interested in the SOCON to pick Heath over Kolat and this makes it tougher on UTC. CHATTANOOGA WILL NEVER BE A TOP TEN TEAM, I will disagree with anyone whom says that it is possible. They simply don't and will never have the resources or backing needed like the top dogs. Although I'm not a fan of UTC even though being from the area and growing up in Chattanooga, I feel Heath has done a solid job at his Alma Mater and is a Good coach. His track record at a small division 1 university speaks for itself. Quit downgrading him as you could do no better. That's why he has the job and you are couch criticizing. Good luck to UTC at nationals along with Heath and his staff!
  3. Several coaches and myself have decided to put together what most do with the NCAA March Madness for basketball. Instead, we are doing one for wrestling. If you are interested in joining in on the fun and having another reason to stay engaged, message me for scoring details and information on how it works. [email protected] 423-582-6725
  4. Thanks, I did not realize the dates conflict again this year, I just thought it would be a good idea for someone to take initiative and help have a team from TN represented. Thanks for the info!
  5. Coaches, This year at Red Bank High School, we will hold the Campbell University/ Scotti Sentes take down camp. The camp will take place on June 22nd-24th, 2017. Cost of the camp is $100 with lunch being included each day. Additionally, there may be a special guest appearance by another staff member f Campbell in schedule permits (I think we all know who Cary Kolat is). The sessions will be 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm each day with lunch in between. If you are coming from out of town and dont want to commute back each day, contact me ahead of time and we will let you bring a sleeping bag and stay in the wrestling room or whatever it takes to cut down on price. The camp is open to all age groups. Scotti Sentes is a phenomenal coach as was a 2x All American at Central Michigan along with a 4x state champ in FL and a Senior National Champ. Spots are filling fast and we have kids registered from TN, GA, NC, AL as of now. There will also be autographed gear signed by the staff given out each day to the hardest working kid or the most improved to the discretion of the clinician. If you would like a flier or information in more detail on the camp contact me at [email protected] or 423-582-6725. By the way Campbell just won the 2017 Socon tournament and Cary Kolat was named the Socon coach of the year. They have 5 qualifiers in the NCAA tournament with a possibility of two more. We hope to see you all there!!!
  6. Coaches, I have had several of my kids ask about this event and other national events in the summer. I took a team from NC in the past and it was a very quality tournament with alot of mat time. My question is, if I was to form a dual team for the event, would any other TN coaches like to help or have kids that may want to compete in it? I would like to see TN represented and wrestling together during the summer. Please contact me if so and ill take care of all the registration and contacts if we have enough interest. Thanks, Dustin Stewart 423-582-6725
  7. Ok, I'll give my personal non-bias opinion for all the experts to pick apart. Here goes nothing... 106- Hicks vs. Holloway (I'll take Holloway here, he has been consistent all year, looks good) 113- Weaver vs. Gill (Give me Weaver. I fell pretty confident in him) 120- Pendley vs Ford (I think Ford gets him this time) 126- Hux vs. Evans (I think Evans has a favorable draw to the finals but Hux is too much) 132- Hutchins vs. Bass (No one in this weight will stop Hutchins) 138- Smith vs. Harris (Harris wins if he wrestles to his ability, quite easily) 145- Coffman vs. Prater (Don't know much about Prater, but ill take a consistent Coffman here) 152- Shuffler vs Williams ( I think Williams gets it done!) 160- Heyward vs who cares??? (Heyward is a stud!) 170- Noe vs Hundley ( I'll flip a coin.... Noe it is.) 182- Tywater vs Evans ( Tywater gets it done.) (ER and RB could have something to say in this) 195- Watkins vs. Brace (Watkins is my pick) 220- Ross vs Suddeth (Round 3, you have to give the edge to Ross since he is 2-0) HWT- Evans vs. who cares (If someone makes it to the second period, its a win for them.)
  8. Coaches, Red Bank High School will host a camp/clinic June 22nd-24th, 2017. This will take place in the big gym at the High School. Our clinician will be Scotti Sentes (Head Assistant Coach at Campbell University). Scotti is a 4x NCAA D1 qualifier, 3x MAC Champ, 2x NCAA D1 All-American, 5x FL State Finalist, 4x FL State Champ, Senior National Champion. This guy is an animal and gets a ton of praise from the legendary Cary Kolat. He also is key in the success that Nathan Kraiser is having this year. We were trying to bring a camp to the area for an affordable price to the kids and fill the mats with not only kids from chattanooga but other states and tennessee areas as well. So here are some more specifics and detailed flyers will be sent out to those interested at a later date. Camp Cost: $100 (we provided lunch) Sessions: 10am-12pm, 2pm-4pm daily (there will be activities and games so you don't have to leave between sessions) Takedown Tournament: We will try to have a off-season tournament on track the last day and the entry fee will be covered for wrestlers that attend the camp. Ages: 7th-12th grades Also, if its a bit of a drive for some wrestlers, you can bring a sleeping bag and camp out in the wrestling room (we have several attendees that are planing to do so, just let me know in advance. We will cap this at 60 wrestlers.... Coaches please let me know if you have anyone interested so i can at least pencil them in. As of today, we have kids from TN, GA, AL, NC attending and seats will fill fast. Help us bring outside resources to chattanooga, in efforts to grow our sport in this area. We welcome everyone. Thanks, Dustin Stewart [email protected] 423-582-6725 feel free to call or email with any additional questions.
