  1. Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
  2. IMO, Nolensville most likely wins their sectional and will take either Brentwood or Summit's spot at the state duals. You could make the argument they were the best (not by much) of the 3 this season but didnt wrestle well at a couple weights in their district duals.
  3. Agree 100%!!! Not sure how long the reign will last but last season was the year to beat them. I've said this numerous times on here and in person to many of my fellow wrestling friends, parents and coaches. Some listen but many refuse to believe the facts and writing on the wall. A private school may beat them but it will be SEVERAL years before any public school in TN can match what they already have and what is coming up in the pipeline. The thing that separates the Cleveland room is their Cleveland coaching staff. They have AT LEAST 5 coaches (and this is just the guys that I know or know of) that are in the room every day and who are all better than 90-95% of the public school coaches in the state. There very well could be a couple more that I dont know of too! If a public school team has just 1 very knowledgeable coach in the room every day, the kids in the room benefit greatly. When you have a handful (or more) of experienced and knowledgeable coaches who help kids be the best version of themselves paired with kids willing to work hard and exceptional parental/community support, you get what they have going right now!
  4. Match that got voted best match was Rubio and Yazdani. Absolutely correct!

Arash's opponent in semis controlled the match until he gassed. When his opponent gassed, Arash hit his takedowns at will. He could've easily had a couple or few more if he didnt waste so much time trying to turn him.
  6. I agree that 150 should be a good match as well. Hunley is a tough kid and strong as an ox. Winner of that match will know hes been in a battle and will have earned it Best match 106 or 175 MOW is either Logan Fowler or Landon Desselle. We'll see if the finals outcomes change my thoughts.
  7. Supposed to be Wilson in 6th at 138, not Little. Not sure how I didnt catch that mistake. Guess I was in a hurry
  8. Didnt have time to go thru entire brackets and probably not gonna have time to enter brackets on the site so here goes my best guess. 106- Cordero, Workman, Dietrick, Moore, Barton, Sessions 113- Walker, Colson, Loeffel, Lippincott, Connaster, Masi 120- Jakob, Smalling, Baltz, Maughon, Corbin, Nielsen 126- Bosken, Heflin, Creque, Corbin, Simpson, Winseman 132- Little, Beasley, Nadaeu, Halcomb, Donelson, Sexton 138- Yazdani, Pullen, Posey, Rubio, Robinson, Little 144- Desselle, Romano, Landrum, Geiser, Brown, Bautista 150- Leach, Hunley, Barlow, Vaughn, Pattee, Hogg 157- Fowler, Meeks, Little, Melzoni, Whaley, Anderson 165- Fowler, Mayes, Fritz, Corbin, Osburn, McKinney 175- McTorry, Stacey, Keel, Thompson, Harrold, Williams 190- Symborski, Kon, Jenkins, Dempsey, Whaley, Hatley 215- Crowder, McBee, Whisenant, Elmore, Moore, Sentell 285- Russel, Myers, Sumler, Savarino, Ard, Timothy Finals matches most likely to flip are 106 and 175 (depending on Stacey's health).
  9. Carl, you make a few valid points and probably worded it better than I did while making the same point. First, you cant compare podium placement with bracket placement in a non-seeded tournament. The argument about seed to placement "domination" only holds water if the tournament was truly and properly seeded. Secondly, with the East division having a slightly disproportionate number of better teams and wrestlers, it stands to reason that more east division wrestlers would "out-perform" their placement (sometimes mistakingly referred to as seed) in the bracket at the state tournament. The opposite would be true of west divison teams and wrestlers. Hare wrestled to his "seed" or better, while he did not wrestle to his placement on the bracket that was not seeded. The ENTIRE McCallie lineup wrestled their butts off this past weekend and the total team points reflect this fact. The fact that y'all had half the number of champions that Baylor or Ryan had show the importance of having a complete team, even in an individual tournament. Total team points should be the metric being used, NOT seed to placement differential in a non-seeded tournament.
  10. Just curious abt this. So, in the 113 lb bracket, are you calling Axel the 6 seed and Hare the 1 seed?? If so, yes Axel exceeded his seed to place differential by 3 and if Hare was "your 1 seed", he receives a -3. This would be true if brackets were seeded properly, instead of placed. However, it doesnt make seed to place true when they're not. If your being realistic about the brackets, both kids should probably recieve a ZERO in expected outcomes bc neither placed higher or lower than most reasonably expected when brackets were revealed. Same with Big Gentle and I'm sure there are probably others as well, he's NOT the 2 seed even if he's "placed" in the traditional 2 seed slot of a non- seeded tournament, therefore he shouldn't merit a +1. Make sense?
  11. Just got back from watching the D-2 championships and was impressed with the McCallie 8th graders. Those kids helped their team to both the dual and individual championships. However, after being around AAU for several years and thinking about Cleveland's incoming freshman, I think the Blue Raiders 8th graders may give the EBE incoming freshman a run for their money. Thoughts? McCallie 8th graders - Jaxon Lane, Cainan Williams, Dylan Villers, Cooper Ledbetter Cleveland 8th graders Boone Maughon, Dominic Cordero, Kellen Sanders, Mattox High, Rock Shurette
  12. Looks like ol Carl was right, McCallie gonna win it on the backside. Brought 13 outta 14 and all 13 placed. FR and especially Baylor have a more thoughbreds at this time but McCallie had a few of their own and plenty of pack mules to carry the load. Congrats McCallie parents and wrestlers on a great season! Yes it is. Several semis match gonna be big as far as team points go. Of the 3 teams that can win, FR has fewest with 8 in semis but a very realistic shot at putting AT LEAST 7 in the finals while Baylor has 10 and McCallie has 11 in the semis.

  14. Bump, what's your "challonge" site link to create our accounts if we dont have one?
  15. A couple of these are questionable at best. 113- I disagree but will go along with 132- very possible but gotta improve from last month 138- maybe but I'm taking Mal 144- it's possible but give me Titus 190- Eversole is the man to beat 215- give me Tiny Smith ALL DAY and twice the day of the finals!
  16. Not even if the wrestler's HS is able to have 8th graders participate in TSSAA sanctioned sports due to the 8th grader "being enrolled" at said HS?
  17. Although I disagree with them, I've heard the same reason as to why the 3 Top 100's are located where they are (middle TN has Music City Brawl). Music City "Nationals" became just that in January of 2023. 4 weeks ago was only their 2nd event that was labeled "nationals". Before January 2023, it had been called the Music City Brawl since its inception. In the past, there have been Top 100 tournaments in middle TN during the now +- 15 years the Music City Brawl/Nationals has existed. In short, imo, if you're gonna give out medals to represent the 3 grand divisions of TN, then the 3 grand divisions of TN should be represented. Saying that and I know this contradicts the 3 grand divisions of TN, Memphis is my least favorite of the 3 for multiple reasons and the one that I think should at least rotate every other year to Mid-TN. Back to the topic at hand, I see no issue whatsoever why a HS (Cleveland in this case) shouldn't host these events if they are willing and able to run these tournaments efficiently.
  18. These days they're only tough to come across in the Nashville area. Not so much for Knoxville area ( kinda deserving), Chattanooga area ( very deserving) or Memphis.
  19. Almost certain Summit was missing Leach as well. Possibly getting a rest after their Ohio trip.?
  20. Cleveland's current dynasty and McCallie's championship yesterday are not by accident. Granted, I thought FR would win a very close match yesterday and was wrong. I actually told my son that if the D2-AAA duals were wrestled 100 times, I thought FR would win abt 40, McCallie would win abt 30-35 and Baylor would win abt 25-30. Saying that, the success that Cleveland has had and will continue to have in the coming yrs is due to their staffs hard work AND the willingness of kids and parents to travel outside of TN seeking better competition. Their kids aren't running "secret moves" from their feet, top or bottom. I'm fairly certain they probably drill routine set-ups, takedowns, techniques and positioning (with an emphasis on every small detail) until its 2nd nature to the kids. There are kids on every team (Cleveland and McCallie included) that are JV, spot starters depending on the matchup, quality starters and elite wrestlers. The thing that separates these teams from most teams is their number of kids that have traveled to "wrestling states" seeking better competition. You take away the (4) 8th graders and a couple stud freshman from McCallie and they don't win, period. What do these kids have in common? They've wrestled better competition several times as youth than they'll see at most tournaments in TN. The same principle applies to the Baylor hammers, Summit studs, Signal Mtn studs, Greeneville's best kids the past few years, Mason Jakob, or any other elite kid from TN. Get your personal kids up to OH, MI, PA, OK, MO, IA, IN, IL, etc and they'll be better for it. Get several kids from your area around the same age doing it and by the time they're in HS, their team will be significantly better.
  21. From my vantage point, and not long before this, the Brentwood wrestler appeared to "tap out" when he was in a bad position and no near-fall awarded to Summit. Guess it wasnt a big deal to anyone, including Summit coaches bc they didnt cause a stink over it.
  22. The ref comes running in, waving his arms and it sounds like to me that the ref immediately says "match is over." Anyone else hear this? He then circles his finger signaling start injury time and says "injury time, it's your second". Sounds like his mind was made up while he was running in and blowing the whistle.
  23. Sounds like some well coached teams to me. Hope y'all were even encouraged to try and wrestle the match near your corner as well.
