  2. Primarily, just wanted to congratulate those guys that worked to make their goals. For many, HS is the end of the line for their wrestling career, so kudos to all those guys who placed at the State Tournament who went into it unranked but were determined in pursuing their goals. This is the quantity from the last Pin-TN rankings for each weight that will place in AA: Four each at 120, 132, 138, 152, 198 Five each at 106, 160, 170, 182, 220, 285 All Six at 113, 162, 145 In fact, before the last day, 145 still has a chance to be perfect in their placement. I know of at least one guy who went all season unranked and will place. He had beaten ranked guys during the season but was probably considered marginal. I suspect there are others. (If you’re curious – no, I’m not kin to him – just know of him and the work he put in.) Secondarily, I see some come on the boards and complain about rankings earlier in the season and throughout. I think the rankers, all in all, do pretty good. I looked but didn’t keep the numbers at this time last year, and I believe that Pin-TN was on 5/6 and 6/6 in the final rankings for 21-22 – so even a little better last year. I think griping about being left out of the rankings is akin to a bench-sitter in baseball saying he should be batting 8th or 9th. You can avoid that by making yourself one of the top five batters. The thing about wrestling is that you get to go out and prove where you belong. I understand parents wanting their son to get some recognition, but we all understand that actually placing is preferred over ranking. Finally, thanks to the coaches that put in the work and team parents that drive these guys all over the state at early and late hours.
  3. Clarksville is the only team ranked with no individuals ranked. They must have some solid wrestlers. Who are their individuals that are on the cusp of cracking the top six in the rankings?
  4. I took a look at the R7 tournament on track, and these things stuck out to me. There are 17 teams and seven don't even have ten wrestlers. Only three have the full 14. All weights have at least ten wrestlers though. From that I'd infer a few things: Most coaches really aren't concerned with grabbing a few extra points for a team title. Many of the teams do not see one another during the regular season With fewer regular season head-to-heads and some end of season weight changes among wrestlers, it is hard to seed wrestlers beyond the first few Knowing that there they'll be wrestling for a "true fourth" may expedite seeding meetings. I.e. if your wrestler found himself wrestling the eventual #1 and #3, he still gets the chance to show he deserves the spot despite the match-ups he had, and cannot argue that he'd have had a better chance had he been seeded differently. I really don't know the reasons, and I'm sure there may be more to it than that, but that is what seems most rational to me.
  5. I don't know the young man (Mason Reiniche), so I don't want my comments to be seen as any reference to tactics or personal character. What I am curious to know is what would Cornell's future plans for him be? Just from what I saw of today's matches, Chris Foka (at the same weight) looks to be very good, and the Ramirez kid at the weight class just below looked pretty stout. (When I saw the size of MR v Joe Smith, I wondered if MR might need to go down.) It seems to me that Cornell must have some plan for these three to bring them all in. Might Foka go up? Anyone have any insight of deeper understanding of what may be happening? On a side note, but still on Baylor wrestlers at Ivy schools: Does anyone know where Khamari Whimper landed? I've not heard where he's wrestling after his Freshman year at Penn.

  8. Region 6 has all four in the AAA 106 quarterfinals. Is there another AAA weight that has four (or even three) from the same region? Just curious. I've not looked beyond 106, but was surprised to discover that. Is that somehow a fluke?
