  1. There's just really no way for me to explain or describe how it is at White House. I think this is probably why no one ever says anything because they'd look stupid. I understand that from the outside looking in I just seem like a crybaby who never saw the field or a parent of a kid who never saw the field, but I played a lot and I'm not a parent. I'm just telling you how it is man, but I don't blame you for not taking my word for it. I probably wouldn't believe me either if I were you.
  2. White House loses some really good seniors, but I know they return a lot at the skill positions. Not sure what the line is gonna look like though. Congrats to Springfield and Greeneville, hopefully we can get there next year. GO BDP!!
  3. I'm not bad mouthing him, I complimented him on everything except being good with the actual coaching part. A lot of people talk about it, but no one usually says it to people outside. I swear it's the best kept secret in high school sports history. He's done good because he has good assistants (at least while I was there, I wouldn't really know now) and talent. Just look at all the names mentioned in this thread, almost all of them have played under porter and there's a lot more really good players that weren't named. I've invited former players (I know they're on here) to refute what I'm saying and none of them have.
  4. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.
  5. Okay we beat Springfield and now they're in state, but whatever. This discussion started because I said coach Porter underachieves with the talent he has because he is not a good coach and gets in the way. Coach porter is a great guy, but it is what it is. If someone who has actually been a part of the program that knows what their talking wants to refute that claim then there's a discussion to be had, but for people who have no clue what they're talking about when it comes to this topic it's pointless to continue. Hopefully we'll have better luck next year, GO BDP!!
  6. I already agreed that White House doesn't have the athletes year in and year out. I said that there are a few years however where they have had the athletes to win state. 98,04,08, and this year too considering we beat Springfield in the regular season. And I know I know, Springfields super heroes got injured against us. You could probably throw a couple other years in there too, but I say definitely those three and this year.
  7. out of all the former players I've talked to, I've never had one that disagreed with me. I'm sure they're out there but I haven't met them. It's only been people outside of the program that think I'm lying or something lol
  8. Well hopefully I'm not a dad lol and I'm definitely not a coach. Just a former player who has talked to a lot of other former players and coaches that agree with me. I think you and eers are taking what I am saying the wrong way. Me questioning his coaching ability does not equate to me questioning his character. He is a class act and I have a lot of respect for coach porter! But that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to criticize him. I think coach does a good job. And if the goal is to make it to the 2nd and 3rd round every year, then he's doing a great job. I just think there's been enough talent at White House over the years for the goal to be set much higher than that.
  9. At this point you might just be trolling me lol but whatever. There were a lot of juniors and a few sophomores on this team that played big roles and some of them started last year too. I think a year of growth and experience makes a huge difference especially sophomore to junior year. Plus number 11 wasn't there last year either and he's really good. And as far as the schedule goes we probably don't beat pearl, but the rest of the games are definitely winnable for this years team. Of course this is all just opinion.
  10. White House doesn't always have a ton of athletes every year, but every few years, including this year imo, they are loaded. But every year no matter how many athletes we have we get put out in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs. Yes there were some pretty significant injuries this year, but we were better than JSS and should've played Springfield in the 3rd round. I just want White House to raise the standard. Right now everyone is satisfied with going to the second or third round and just being a 'good' team. I understand you're not going to win state every year, but if that's not at least the goal then you're never going to win it. This was a good year and I'm proud to be a former blue devil. Maybe I'm being ridiculous, but I want us to be great not just good. That's all I'm trying to say.
  11. I mean you can watch my junior year highlights on YouTube, my name is Alan Cope. I definitely was not a superstar by anyones standards including my mom and dad. I went to a D3 school. D3 schools technically don't give athletic scholarships. The school costs $43,000 a year and we were paying $22,000. So I was getting a lot of scholarship money, but it still wasn't enough. I just think it's hilarious that two guys who are not White House fans think they would know more about how good coach porter is at the Xs and Os of football than someone who has actually been a part of it. I'll reiterate one more time, I like coach porter as a person. I think he is a good man, a good fundraiser, a good community man, and I think he does the best he can at instilling discipline in the kids. But the Xs and Os just aren't there. And the only people that ever disagree with me on this point are people who haven't played for him. Now obviously I haven't talked to every former player so there's probably some that disagree with me, but up to now I've never talked to a former player that disagrees with what I am saying.
  12. I'm not sure what comment I made that was so terrible. I would love to coach football. If I wasn't a part of my family's business, coaching is absolutely where I would want to be. But for now I'll have to stick to being a has been wishing I could relive the glory days lol
  13. I don't really think I said anything distasteful. I complimented him in a lot of areas because I think he's a good dude. All I said was he's not good with the Xs and Os. Its not like I'm the only person to say this stuff. A lot of people that I talk to around White House football have similar opinions. Like you said, you're not a White House fan and have probably never even interacted with coach Porter on a football field, so you really wouldn't know.
  14. 2011 was my senior year of high school football. I played special teams my freshmen and sophomore year in college, but I had to leave before the start of my junior year because of the financial situation.
  15. Yes... another good season... "the greatest barrier to be great, is being good." Being good makes you complacent, it makes you satisfied with being just above average and prevents and from achieving everything you're capable of achieving. It is not u realistic to compare coaching. If I would've been coached in high school the way I was coached in college I would've been an all state player at least. I swear the difference was astounding! If you think there's no room to bash coach porter then you obviously have never played for him. Once again, I love coach porter. He's a great family friend (I get in arguments with my family about him often), a great community man, a great fundraiser! But as far as Xs and Os, he just doesn't have it. Bottom line. Idk how the 90s guys feel about him, but any player I've talked to from 2003 and on will tell you the same thing.
