  1. Baseball. East has one of the best baseball programs in the mid-state. They’ve had several younger kids, kids that are in middle school and freshmen now, move form other school zones to go to East to play baseball. Most of those kids also play football, and are pretty talented athletes all around. Hence in a couple of years they should have plenty of talent if the coaching can figure it out. I’m no East homer, I’m a Springfield guy and wish a lot of those kids would be in our system but I get it gotta to what’s best for you and Springfield’s baseball program is horrid.
  2. I wonder how long it will be before #11 is able to be back at RB or is he out for the year?
  3. Forrest wins this one easily, coaching has been and will be the biggest issue at East ever since the D1 Groves has been there. I will say this with 100% confidence. In about 2-3 years East will be one of, if not, the most talented teams in Robertson county if the private schools don’t pick them apart. Now if the coaching could get fixed…..
  4. I don’t think Portland will have 2 RBs over 100 yards the way they did against Station Camp. Maybe 1 but not 2, Springfield’s defense will be keyed up for the run game. If Portland beats them, they’ll have to mix it up. I really think Springfield comes out hungry after the break down against Beech and takes care of business to bring home a fourth region championship in as many years.
  5. Why not go with the guy that started at Springfield? He looked good to me, just had some drops and line issues at times, not his fault.
  6. Not trying to “kick’em while they’re down” but it didn’t really surprise me. Waverly is really good football team and will make a run in the playoffs. I’ve said all year they’re not they good. They lost a lot off of last years team, and have really beaten anyone of substance.
  7. Beech by a couple of TD’s, I don’t think Gallatin has the horses to run with Beech for 4 quarters. Could be a lot more if Beech would get #5 the ball more. That’s one thing I didn’t understand at the Springfield game, why they didn’t get him the ball more. I know he had some drops, but when he’s got the ball in his hands he’s a beast to tackle and fast.
  8. Yeah that’s the other thing noticed…..for the amount of support the town showed….the stadium looked a little outdated and lacking. Maybe with prospect of people moving in due to the new Ford factory, that will change soon.
  9. Keep up the good work! I enjoy reading your post they’re always insightful and in-depth with stats and a lot of historical data on Haywood and southwest Tennessee football in general. On a side note, I was through Brownsville a couple weeks ago for work and am thoroughly impressed with the amount of support the city has for the Tomcats. Every light pole on main st had a Tomcat banner on it and some of the transformer boxes were wrapped for Haywood High support. Nice to see that nowadays, it’s a rarity.
  10. I think Munford could be a dark horse out of the west to make some noise.
  11. I agree with that point 100%. You need to have a balance, tough games and winnable games to keep confidence up. Then with the confidence you can win the tougher games later on.
  12. Playing better competition does help a team in the long run, but you also need to win one or 2 of those close ones.
  13. His ratings have been off all year long across all classifications
  14. I saw that. I’ve been in Waverly all week for work. I was shocked when I first drove through for the first time after the flood. The news hasn’t showed a 1/3 of the destruction to homes and businesses in the area, not to mention most of Humphreys county’s school buses. Sad situation those folks face.
  15. That’s awesome. Regardless of how this game turns out that’s a great show of sportsmanship. We get on here and go back and forth with each other but at the end of the day it’s really the people and the communities the we all support that matter the most.
  16. I’m going to be brutally honest about Springfield's offense, because I’ve been consistent all year in my opinions. If we don’t open up the play book a little more and try to score a few more points it’s going to be a long game against Beech. We’ve got the horses why not let them run a little bit against a really good non-region opponent. By no means when I say run do I think we’ll run over Beech, it’s just a figure of speech. The defense is playing lights out, but you can’t put it on their backs every game. I know the old saying defense wins championships, but scoring points wins games.
  17. One other team that comes to mind is the 1998 Whites Creek team. Beat Springfield in a winner gets in last regular season game at Boyce Smith. They limped into the playoffs at 5-4, oddly enough they only played nine games that year, and made a run to the finals. Along the way they upset several good teams including two time defending state champs Pearl Cohn, to eventually get thrashed by Maryville in the state finals to finish at 9-5.
  18. Yeah that TE screen HC threw was a thing of beauty. They should’ve hit it more or, like you said, found him down the seem.
  19. I’m the “other guy”, let me break it down for you. 1st: I never said the refs where paid anywhere at all. I said Henry county got all the favorables from the refs, which is visible on film. Anyone can go watch it on YouTube and see for themselves that everything I pointed out about the refs is true. The Home Cooking part comes in not from payment but from the crew being a west TN crew and them seeing Henry County in multiple games and only seeing Springfield for the that one particular game, therefore them seeing Henry county in a more favorable light. 2nd: I’ve never been anything but complementary of Henry County’s football team and overall program until provoked from a Henry county poster saying “if this would’ve happened or this guy would’ve played it would’ve been different” maybe so, maybe not. The facts are: Springfield won and Henry county lost and we both hope to meet again this season at 100% strength. Sorry for the long post and I won’t be commenting anymore on this game In this thread.
