  1. You have a couple of more seasons to look forward to. He got our attention the other night.
  2. Makes sense. Thanks for the info on redhead, #2. I hope he has at least another year to play.
  3. Just got home from DB at South Greene, SG matched up well with DB and outshot and out rebounded the Indians for the entire first half. Second half was different, as DB shot and rebounded better and took the game away from a surprised South Greene team. DB players of note were #20 post and #2, who looks like he spends lots of time in the weight room. Any chance he's on the football team at DB? It was a game worth watching, Congrats to Dobyns Bennett for never quitting. There was a sparse crowd from Kingsport, which didn't seem to have any effect on the Indians, who won a game in a very difficult place to play a road game.
  4. Slightly off-topic, but North Greene post Miller made the all-tournament team at the Ladies Classic. She's in good company and very deserving.
  5. I really don't think you have to fret too much about your team. To make it to the finals in this tournament was an achievement in itself. I hope Jackson Southside can come back next year. Have a great rest of the season. I think you will.
  6. South Greene shot poorly. The story I prefer is they came back from a 17-point deficit to win the game. Looking forward to their game tomorrow with Greeneville, whom they've not played in a couple of years.
  7. NG had lots of trouble beating Boone's press, Boone did not shoot well from the outside. The little point guard for NG (#1) took a heavy physical beating tonight but got through it like a trooper. Congrats to North Greene for a gutsy performance and another great win. I sat near some Greeneville players who rooted for the Lady Huskies. That was good seeing them on the same side as a county team, for a change.
  8. Webb looks like an extremely young team. I'll go out on a limb and pick Southside to win today's game. You might want to stream both of today's semis. One girl to watch on Marist is #15 Kate Harpring. She is only a sophomore, but, man, she is a great all-around player. Marist beat an extremely good school from Lexington, KY area last night, George Rogers Clark. Best game of the tournament, so far. IMO
  9. The track record for the Ladies Classic in Greeneville speaks for itself — 34 years of great women athletes passing through our little town, heading for bigger and better things.
  10. Since you are a fan of Southside, I'm glad you asked. I believe your team has a chance to make the finals. I think they might be too much for Webb in the semis (even though Webb did beat Bearden on Wednesday) Then, if they reach the championship, you all will have to beat one of two good teams — either a very good Marist School from Atlanta or another very good school from Bartlett, TN. You may be already familiar with Bartlett, since they are from West TN. I think SS could win the championship, but they'll definitely need their "A game" in the semis and especially for the championship.
  11. A great win for East Tennessee. Same for Cocke County. Looking forward to seeing them both a time or two this week in Greeneville.
  12. Two upsets at The AJ Bank Ladies Classic in Greeneville tonight. Cocke County over Upperman and North Greene over Oak Ridge. I'm not picking an underdog: South Greene and Knox Catholic tomorrow. It should be a good game.
  13. A heads up for Hampton and Cloudland fans. Coach T scoreboard does not show the game being streamed. I just checked out the NFHS site and that network will be streaming both the girls and boys games tonight, starting at 6 P.M. Should be barnburners.
  14. Agree. I saw the game at SG. Hampton is a fine TEAM. Kudos to the many Hampton fans who traveled a long way to support Hampton basketball. Their student section and South Greene's student section made a lot of noise, as both, to their credit, were really into the games.
  15. South Greene is only scratching the surface of how good they can be. They are playing OK for now but should do much better as the season progresses.
  16. Hampton won close games last year. I'm going with South Greene tonight. I'll be at the game.
  17. You and TennBuffalo are on to something that had not occurred to me. There have been instances when the rules did not apply. Hardship cases, for instance. At any rate, I hope the move is beneficial to the kid and her team.
  18. Tonight, the NG posts had several open looks. Easy layups. Neither team shot well from the outside.
  19. #23 Haley Brooks (the redhead), made the final shot. When she got into early foul trouble, I figured it would be a long night for South Greene. Brooks and the other starting guard, #5 Emma Cutshall, both seniors, are crucial to any success SG has this year. Only seven girls dressed for North Greene tonight. One girl playing for NG, who played her freshman and sophomore years at South Greene, did not dress for the game, presumably due to an injury. South Greene played flat for most of the game but managed to get small leads late in the second half. Had the game gone to OT, the results could have been different. The two posts for North Greene played extremely well tonight, moving well inside. Both are very athletic. It was a great game and SG was lucky to have come out on top.
  20. My next South Greene game to watch is at Dobyns Bennett, Dec 1. Many kudos to SG coach Stepen Gregg for scheduling teams above his teams' classification. It pays off.
  21. This deserves a response. It takes an impartial student of the game to post what you have. Thank you. South Greene is led by Seniors Haley Brooks #23 and #5 Emma Cutshall. If opposing teams do not get either player in early foul trouble, they are in for a long night. As for the rest of the team, opponents are in for some surprises.
  22. For what it's worth, and for the sake of understanding: The TSSAA schedule shows both Cloudland and Cosby playing in the "Hall of Champions " on Thursday November 16, 2023. The Coach T Scoreboard has Cloudland playing South Greene 3:30 Friday. At 5:30 pm 11/17/23 it still remains on the Coach T site. Take a look.
  23. She had a bad back for much of her high school career. It caught up with her around her junior year Tennessee Tech. She's married with a child now, I think she graduated in 2018. Braelyn Wykle is the youngest of the three sisters. Her mother starred at South Greene in the 90s. Their father quarterbacked the SG football team. A great family! This is Braelyn's senior year at Carson Newman. Upperman's Abigail Johnson is to start play at C/N this year, as well as Karli Hayworth of Alcoa. If you are familiar with basketball in the eastern part of the state and if they haven't transferred, Campbell Penland of Northview Academy and Grainger's Tori Rutherford will be back at C/N this year, They are loaded at the guard position. I watch C/N when they come to Greeneville to play Tusculum University.
  24. Yes. On a positive note: There was a huge turnout of visiting Cosby fans. Close games sometimes turn for who cheers the loudest. They were loud for both the girls and the boys.
