  1. Metro has always been a system that hired what was the best for the school demographics . Back in the day a black coach was hired at a school that fit the demographics and a white the same way. Times and school demographics are still deciding head football coaches. I would even venture to all sports and say this is the trend. It has never been about being qualified to coach but just the best fit. Also interviews and hiring use to take place at the central office by head of human resources, principal , athletic director and maybe one other central office person, but sometimes just HR director and principal. Loved the good ole days. Also , if you not already an employee of metro schools you were not even considered for any jobs. Tommy Owen was a great coach at MBA and could not even apply or interview for the Hillwood football coach job because he was not a metro employee.
  2. I think overkill has happened in high schools with individual sports. Year long demands and coaches demanding or expecting kids to specialize. Colleges still want multi sports athletes and a lot of high schools need to share athletes. I remember Principal Dan Herron demanding coaches that when football was over it was basketball and when it was over it was baseball and then it was summer time and nothing was done with your sport until it started back the next season according to TSSAA calendar. Also any coach that went against his policy was no longer coaching.
  3. There was a time when if students were in a class during the school day they could practice football or whatever sport year round. I have known some football teams to practice in full gear everyday during that class period and it was okay. Metro schools never had that but a few county and private schools did this.
  4. The recent mayor's plan in Nashville looks like no sports activities will be taking place for quite sometime and that is if everything is going well . 4 phases and 2 weeks between each phase with phase one not beginning until sometime in May. No mention of school starting date. Until plans to open schools , no kids will be allowed to meet with coaches. Fitness centers in Nashville are not scheduled to open possibly until sometime in June.
  5. I agree that there will be no sports or even large crowds of people until a proven treatment and vaccine.
  6. How many think there will even be football in the fall. I hope there is but I would not be surprised if there is no sports until a drug or vaccine can be proven effective. I have heard schools will even be on modified schedules. I am not sure fans will be at games or even allowed. Thoughts? Wishes?
  7. Broome made a good choice. JS will not go, will not be able to get any in school help. DM can not handle the kids. RL is probably best for job, but won't stay because he will not be able to do what BW did.
  8. How will this school affect Mount Juliet zone? Also, money may keep current coaches in other counties from coming to Wilson Co.
  9. I need to get out more. I did not even know a new school was being built. Opening? How many students? Seniors and Athletes have an option? So a coach has been chosen? When is an announcement?
  10. Planning on going. Crowd should be good. Whitehaven fans travel well?
  11. You are forgetting this is not about the kid, this is about the dad getting a job using his son.
  12. Who are some up and coming head coach possibilities?
