  1. I can say that the one good thing that came from that game was an opportunity to see the younger players get a chance to step up. It's going to be a long season for these young men but there is several 2nd string players getting plenty of reps which will only help their future. TC look good as always. I was more impressed with their defense but from what I seen they are going to have a good year.
  2. I look for Pickett and Clay to be two top teams in the district. G'viile was beat by Watertown last night but look like a solid team. District 6 will be very competitive this year.
  3. Gordonsville's Boys team starting off the year with a few good wins. Monterey also looks to be very competitive. Both teams are undefeated but it's still early in the season. Being a tigers fan I also have to mention how good the new basketball court looks. Any discussion on who will be the top team in this district and how other districts in Class A will play out ?
  4. I think SC will go with a young coach that's not on most peoples radar. There is a lot of young assistant coaches that would love to take over a 3A program. SC has good fan support. With the right leadership, its a program with the ability to be competitive. I have heard several names but I think they will hire a coach that doesn't have any ties to the program.
  5. NOT A TC FAN !!!! I heard there were 2 but it maybe 1. Either way I standby my prediction. TC over H2O.
  6. Getting back to the topic.........TC vs H2O. Given the fact that Watertown beat TC by a very short margin (without 2 of TC's top players) I think TC will beat H2O. I think it will still be a close game but I see TC coming off with a victory. I didn't predict TC winning over Tyner but after that game I am going to have to go with the jackets.
  7. I think the same thing goes for TC. If TC shows up to play then they will be hard to beat. I don't know a lot about Tyner but I hear they're good team.
  8. No one is taking anything away from SP. It just seems that Whitwell is loaded this year. I've heard people say that SP is a talented team (like always) but not as good as they have been in the past. I knew the two schools were in close proximity to each other. We've had players bounce back and forth between schools in our county so I was curious if the same thing was happening in your area.
  9. I predict H2O over the eagles & TC over Tyner. Week 3 of playoffs will be TC vs H2O which is going to be a barn burner.
  10. I've noticed that Whitwell has a lot of athletes. Has SP lost any of their players to whitwell over the past few years ? I know both schools are within 30 mins of each other. For years SP was the more dominate team in that area.
  11. Everyone I've talked to has TC over Tyner. TC vs H2O will be a really good game !!!
  12. I don't think Whitwell wins by 60 but I do predict a shut out.
  13. That '93 team beat G'ville 14-0. TC went on to beat SP then when state. I had to edit this post after I checked tssaa. SP won state the following year. Either way the '93 SP team were loaded with talent.
  14. I'm not a South Pitt fan but I respect the program. Probably one of the best football atmospheres in the state. Nothing like riding a bus into SP through town seeing all the businesses closed for game time, then coming up on the field seeing all that orange & black. I remember in '93 when SP rolled into G'ville. I was in 7th grade. Unfortunately I never got the chance to play against them. We always had to play the private schools during the playoffs but we use to always say that when playoff season comes, "all roads lead through South Pitt". I think G'ville will play well. If not, SP will not let off until the final whistle.
  15. I think G'ville & SP should be a better game than what people think. Croz said it best, we're a team that rises to the level of our competition. I'm sure that SP will be on top of their game. In order to play with a team like SP you have to make very little if any mistakes and then be able to capitalize on their mistakes. As far as a passing or running attack I don't want to give anything away but I think our QB has done a really good job this year. Givens is a work horse with a lot of talent. Hopefully he'll be able to play a little but I think it's still up in the air. Either way we still have some good talent and I think it will be a good game.
  16. The reason I said that was because we were asked why we didn't play better teams outside of our region and our defense was the same as yours. Why would we play a team that we will meet in the playoffs ? Read some of the old post on this thread and you would see why I said that.
  17. Yeah I'm not sure if that helps or not but since you mentioned it, what the heck happen to Jackson Co. ?  That program has really fell off.

I think Loftis has lost interest, imo. He left and went to Gallatin, then came back. They were decent last year, but they didn't have any athletes this year.

  18. TC played Jackson Co. !!! & Macon (5-5) Cascade (3-7) East Robinson (5-5) and playoffs vs Marion Co. (3-6). You barely beat friendship, lost to H2O (who G'ville also plays) and got beat by Lebanon. Yes, Lebanon is larger school and I commend you on playing them but I really don't think that your schedule is that superior to other programs. Oh, by the way you got beat by Whitwell. Whitwell is a Class 1A team with a lot of talent but I guarantee you that when that game was scheduled TC was expecting to come off with a big win and they were not playing them because "it's good competition and it will make us better". You talk about us, why doesn't TC play Alcoa, Tyner, or Meigs ?
  19. Very few high school 1A programs would schedule a 5 or 6A program during regular season. I don't see how that would help your program. TC scheduling Lebanon was no surprise to me. I had TC picked to beat Lebanon both years because I knew a little bit about both programs and this is Lebanon's first year to be competitive in a long time. I wouldn't put our program up against Cookeville. What can you gain from that ?
  20. I'm not certain on who actually applied for the GHS position but I agree with Croz. Our coach is the right man for the job. I would think that coach shoulders wanted the Macon position before GHS or TC. That's his home and you can't blame him for that. He's a really good up and coming coach and I expect for him to do some really good things with that program in the future. I've been hearing a lot of rumors about a new TC coach next year. Is it possible that TC would bring in a new Satterfield ? I always had a lot of respect for Coach Clint. In my opinion he was probably one of the best high school coaches around when I played. I've heard his son is a "chip off the old block".
  21. Just to clarify......I haven't and would never say anything negative in regards to the winning tradition that TC has built over the years. I don't like when I hear people talk about weak regions or scheduling because that's two subjects that no one on this forum has any control over. Your region is based on where or what county your in relation to the other programs in nearby or surround counties based on enrollment. I don't agree with tssaa's theory when it comes to playoffs. Like I said before, there are some regions (Class A R#1) where every program is guaranteed to make the playoffs. I don't agree with that and I would be more than comfortable with a system where the top two teams make the playoffs rather than the system we have now. It comes down to $$$ and having 4 teams rather than 2 is more money for the controlling bodies. As far as the the threads about TC, I'm a life long G'villian who played for the Tigers from 6 yrs old to 18 and if I had a Delorean I wouldn't travel back to 1955. I would travel back to 1998 just so I could play TC. I'm pretty sure the outcome would be the same but I am a competitor and there is no better competition than the 1998 TC Team. Lets stop talking about weak regions and agree that G'ville plays the hand they are dealt, TC made a mistake by scheduling Whitwell and jimmycrackedthatcorn has no idea what he's talking about.
  22. I don't remember hearing TC talk about a weak region back when they were winning state championships in Class 1A. All of a sudden Class 1A/reg. 4 is weak ? Give me a break. Why would G'ville schedule SP, Whitwell or any other team that we know we'll be playing in the playoffs, unless they were a nearby school or surrounding county. When it comes down to it, you schedule teams outside of your region that will give you good money at the gate (ticket sales). Jackson Co. is not good for business. Coalfield is a tuff team and they usually have a good fan base. More than likely we want see them in the playoffs unless they can be Greenback. SC is a rivalry game with a lot of tradition. If you want to talk about a weak region talk about Class 1A Region 1 where everyone make the playoffs ! Sorry Cloudland : ( Yes, I know TC beat G'ville but I figured it would be hard to find a TC fan on here talking smack when a CLASS 1A team beat them on the creek bank. Whitwell who ? I look forward to seeing that black & orange on Nov. 9th.
  23. I used the term "smashed" to describe the win that Whitwell had over TC. I've played against TC since I was a kid. I know "smash" may not be the best term to use when you beat a team by a touchdown in OT but when a 1A team steps up and beats a team like TC, that's been somewhat dominant for the last several years I'd say smashing is a good term to use to describe the outcome. Although Whitwell is a tough program, if you live anywhere near TC it would have been hard to find someone who would have predicted that outcome. Personally, I knew it was going to be a good game.
  24. Shownuff I can't agree with you more. The JB stadium is one of my favorite places to visit in 1A football. Great football atmosphere. Last time I was there I felt like I was fixing to buckle the old chin strap and hit the field. This type of game makes me miss playing high school football. JB vs G'ville will be the game you don't want to miss. I really look forward to this trip.
