  1. PC you gotta get your facts straight! Decades? Lipscomb has a very strong football heritage and was a great program in the 90s and 2000s until they were forced to move to AAAA level. State finals 9 times, won 4 and a lot of semi finals. All this time playing in DIV I AA, AAA & AAAA and always played by the rules re never recruiting players, etc. I grant you the program fell off for a few years after Coach McAdams while in AAAA. If u don’t know what the word decades means…just ask.
  2. Wait…u mean they aren’t all homegrown? All these years I thought they were completely homegrown. #Wharton #Bonds #Lindsay #Allsmiller #Brahaw #Blackwell.. “CPA Homegrown”. What a joke! I guess if they say it over and over they think someone will believe them!
  3. CPAs arrogance has always been tops in the mid state. Now they tryin to stand on this “homegrown” theme. Makes me laugh with tears! Let me give u some “homegrown” names during their public school days to boost their sports programs. Wharton, Bonds, Lindsay, Bradshaw, Allsmiller, AND Campbell (Yep the very same Tyger Campbell that plays for UCLA and lost last night). Theres more…I just can’t recall all of them. Great players from Murfreesboro, Greenbrier, East TN and the West coast. Just ask Coach Fey’s opinion of them during that period. Probably cost him a state title. Advice for CPA fans…cheer on your players, stop cryin, work a little harder and be proud that you guys won some Gold balls in the public division with such “homegrown” players. #Mercenaries
  4. Good stuff! For the record I’ve not said one negative thing about Oakland. Total respect for the talent on that team and they definitely deserve to be recognized as the #1 ranked team in Tennessee. My point earlier is this isn’t just a private school issue. Whether it’s Maryville, Alcoa , and Fulton in the open zone situation or Riverdale in the past there are public schools playing the recruiting game also. It was only a tweet! Cmon! “No one at Oakland even knew of this student athlete (except for the Athletic Director, of course). Is that really the story y’all stuck with? Point is it’s an issue in both divisions, private and public. As for the other worthless comment, u guys must be Millennials or Gen Z types and are totally soft to think what u saw on video with Dilfer was that upsetting. Give me a break! Sounds like volleyball or badminton would be a better sport for you to follow.
  5. Yeah I think the quote was “win by several by half or end of the game”. i think that’s different that by 1. It wasn’t a rant just stating facts. BTW, you may or may not be aware but all that hard work and grit is summed up nicely in this article. https://www.dnj.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/08/11/oakland-football-probation-recruiting-tssaa/3349912001/ Funny stuff!

You obviously don’t know the history here. There was a guy in the Antioch area who was affiliated with BA for years. He may have actually been listed as an asst coach there prior to 2014. Not sure of that tho. He was the pipeline of athletes coming outta of Antioch and Murfreesboro. If memory serves accurately I think he got in trouble for mismanaging funds of a youth football program in the area and BA had to cut ties. None of that matters as they were in Div II at the time. My point is this was business as usual for this program back when there wasn’t a Div II which caused the TSSAA lawsuit and eventually created the need for Div II. A long history of this stuff!

Gotta set the record a little straight with some real facts. Between MichaelMyers, you and a few others that think they know so much about LA football and Dilfer you guys need to get a little closer to the facts as you are embarrassing yourself. For the record, all of my kids attended and graduated LA. I had a son who played for Coach Mac and Tillman and I’ve remained very close to the program. Also for the record, I really miss the days when you took your players who were at your school from Kindergarten and you line up and play football. Coach Mac was the best at that! He wanted to take our kids and win. BUT, if you know your facts, in his last few years of coaching, he wasn’t having the success with the same recipe. He used to beat teams like CPA who clearly had more talent, but as their talent pools continued to grow, LA wasn’t able to compete any longer. Tillman took over and things got worse as the only recipe he knew was the one handed down from Mac. Moving into the private school division was a tough transition for LA as they had no talent and had no idea how to market their program to attract student athletes as it wasn’t in our DNA. Fast forward through a series of events and Dilfer becomes the new head coach at LA. 1. Agree he had and still has a lot to learn as a HS football coach and is learning how to deal with HS age players vs NFL age players. I’ve seen a major change in the last 3 years. 2. Agree he carries himself with a lot of confidence bordering on arrogance as he had to be that guy in the NFL. He’s certainly not the only local HS coach that is overly confident. 3. All said tho, he has done things that Mac and Tillman would never been able to pull off in today’s HS football environment. Contrary to what you guys are saying, parents are very happy. MichaelMeyers, I’m sure you have a disgruntled friend that shares some slanted info with you but I guarantee you they don’t speak for the majority. Sure there’s a few parents disgruntled because Johnny isn’t getting playing time…what private school program doesn’t deal with that. Go criticize them! 4. Agree Dilfer was out coached in the State championship game last year. He even admits he made a lot of mistakes. So what? Every coach who has coached has gotten out coached. I would argue Kiffin out coached Sabin last year as Ole Miss almost beat AL where Sabin had no answer for their offense. Sabin eventually won due to the vast talent gap but he clearly got out coached. Who cares? 5. More students who have been at Lipscomb for a long time start/play than you think. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 15 kids that start and/or play meaningful minutes 6. Dilfer raises most of the needed funds for the football budget and it’s still smaller than MBA, Ensworth, BA and CPAs. Before Dilfer, our team was playing with annual refurbished helmets that were 15-20 years old as we had very little budget dollars to spend thanks to the University’s budget constraints. That’s changing but he is having to work hard to make up the financial deficit. 7. The out of town players were not recruited. That’s laughable. You’re giving Dilfer too much credit if you think he is really convincing the arbitrary family to pick up roots, sell their homes and move th Nashville to play HS football at LA. Most are at LA because their local HS football programs shut down due to Covid and kids were looking for a school to attend and play last year and this year. Dilfer’s name attracted them but he 100% didn’t recruit them. The others were two coaches sons who came because they wanted to coach with Trent as they are all long time friends. 8. Most of the new players are not on any financial aid. There are some on financial aid for sure, but that number is much smaller than you think. 9. Whether a player comes from Michigan or California vs Greenbrier TN or Murfreesboro, TN, I don’t understand the difference or your concern. Please explain! 10. Dilfer has coached 2 full seasons and you are criticizing him because he didn’t beat CPA in the state championship of his second year after taking over a program that only won 3 games in the past two seasons. Really? How about being impressed how quickly he’s been able to turn it around? 11. 24/7 mentioned he doesn’t show great leadership and he doesn’t work hard. I’ve never seen a group of boys buy in to a program so quickly. And I can confirm his teams are working harder physically and mentally than any team Mac or Tillman ever had. I can also say that Dilfer puts more time into this team than any coach I’ve ever seen. I have no complaints of his leadership or work ethic. 12. As for the on-side kick when up 21-0. I have no idea why he made that decision but I have no problem with it and I think it’s a real stretch for you to complain about it. The game isn’t out of hand at that point and he was looking to put it away quickly. Would you have blamed FRA for on side kicking when down 21-0 or would you have criticized Dilfer for letting a team come back from a 21-0 deficit because he took the foot off the gas? I’m betting you would! 13. Dilfer will be around next year. He’s invested too much into this program and he loves it. Those are the real facts! Trent is doing a great job at LA and most of the parents appreciate what he’s doing.

Interesting…I was around watching BA pick off all that talent out of Murfreesboro and the UNA Antioch programs back in the 90s, using local “talent influencers” (certainly not called recruiters) when everyone played in the same public (non recruiting) school league. I find it extremely ironic that the school who single handedly created the need for a private school division is now struggling athletically. It hasn’t been that long ago since Cody was complaining in the papers that no one locally would play them and now he is avoiding local teams he knows he will lose to. The old saying, what goes around, comes around, truly applies here. BA getting everything they deserve!
  9. My bad Kevin38, it was Ddaddy who used the recruits vs transfers language. Too funny! There was so much over-confident nonsense coming from the Oakland fan base that I got confused who said that. The only reason you feel Dilfer was out coached was because Oakland won. Two evenly matched teams and Oakland wins AT HOME by a touchdown….out coached? Cmon! Anyone who knows anything about football knows that Creasy actually almost blew the game by not taking a knee in the last offensive possession to merely run up the score. The only knock on Dilfer that night was the last offensive play call but hindsight is always 20/20. i hope the fan base gets in Creasy’s ear to come to LA and play next year, but my guess is he won’t want to have anything to do with that.
  10. Lots of funny things observed: 1. Tata says better coached team won…hmm I thought everyone at Oakland felt there was no way for LA to stay on the field with Oakland due to Oakland’s speed and talent. Wouldn’t it be the other way around? LA must’ve been the better coached team to just merely hang with such a talented team. 2. Kevin38, JimmyCrackedCorn and several others “ Creasy names his number. Running clock, etc, etc”. Great prediction and so much knowledge. 3. Kevin38 mentions Dilfer’s recruits and Oakland’s transfers. Interesting choice of words. I guess Oakland is not recruiting but players are magically showing up at that PUBLIC school?? Always hard to explain magic! 4. Kevin38 is not impressed with running up the score as Creasy would never do that. Wonder why Creasy didn’t take a knee in the 4th Q and simply run out the clock vs trying to score one last touchdown? 3 possible reasons: a. He’s not a very good mathematician b. He’s not as good of a coach as many of you have mentioned c. He wanted to run up the score as that would be more impressive. My guess C 5. Running up the score almost cost Creasy the game as LA moved the ball down field with no timeouts in under a min left to the 2 yard line. Not sure who got out coached here but it wasn’t Dilfer. Maybe the answer to the previous question is B. 6. Blaze45 is impressed with Oakland’s national ranking. How accurate do you think that poll is? We know they can’t even get college polls right (Iowa #5, yeah right). I guess he is now impressed with where LA should be ranked nationally based on what happened Thursday night. 7. Arshad221, just don’t! You take away from the players on both sides by using the refs as an excuse. It’s part of the game, always has been and always will be. In the end, LA had a chance to win the game and didn’t execute…that’s the way it goes sometimes. All in all both teams played their hearts out and let us watch one of the best HS games in a long time. Both teams deserved to win. They play 10 times and I believe it’s 5 - 5. I hope we get to play each other again next year. Will be interesting to see if Oakland wants anything to do with LA next year. Oakland is extremely talented and I’m rooting for them to win the gold ball in 6A. Go Mustangs!
  11. Totally disagree! Not sure who will win but I believe LA and CPA will give Oakland a very good challenge. There’s no doubt Oakland has the talent, speed and size but I wouldn’t be surprised if Oakland drops one between those two games. Maybe, maybe not. That’s why they play! Kudos to Oakland for being willing to play both teams. If Covid will stay outta the way, we should have a fun HS football season to watch!
  12. Gotcha. I am thinking the University would prefer to have college tuition vs high school tuition packed in dorms. But who knows, I would’ve never thought I would see the day when LA plays the private school game!
  13. No Lipscomb is not a boarding school like McCallie, Baylor or Webb . I doubt the University gives up a dorm to house HS players since there is a dorm/housing shortage. LOL! It’s the same rumor we used to hear about CPA when unfamiliar, out of town talent was showing up at their school consistently from approx 2009 - 2015 ish. Funny stuff!
  14. It should prove to be a fun season to watch. My guess is Dilfer would admit he didn’t call a great game in the state championship and CPA had a great game plan. I totally agree Coach Martin is a great coach. But LA didn’t play well and, by CPAs design, the time of possession was heavily weighted in CPAs favor. All said, it should concern CPA that Lipscomb still almost pulled off the win at the end of the game. BTW, CPA has been “loaded” with talent for years. That’s certainly nothing new. LA wins in the regular season and if they meet in the championship, LA gets the sweep and Gold Ball. IMO, this year CPA simply won’t be able to hold the ball long enough or score enough points to stay on the field with LA.
