  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Basin hang 56 on a Tellico team that previously AND since has yet to let anyone else score a touchdown?
  2. Gotta take in to consideration that some of that stuff isn’t set in stone. So they really have no reason to tell anyone until it is. Plus there is so much stuff that goes in to football scheduling and all of the other things outside of the field that there’s hardly ever time to send out a memo to alumni. That’s at any school.
  3. They weren’t onside kicks but they were all short kicks though.
  4. There are two wild cards IMO in this game. 1 is how Tellico reacts to the tough loss at Basin this last week. They’re either going to be fired up and ready to beat the world or they’re going to be flat and still hung up on the fact that they gave up so many points after not allowing a TD prior. #2 is going to be how PC’s RB plays. Both lines are going to come off the ball, but PC is going to have to depend on their RB to carry their offense. Not sure if their QB is hurt or not as was mentioned earlier, but if he is they can still make some stuff happen if their RB has a good game. Should be a good game.
  5. The coaching at the Alcoa and Maryville are head and shoulders better. The staff there know what they are talking about and put their teams in position to win year after year. If you want to argue about that, let’s count rings. I saw Coach Quarles bring home rings with teams that probably weren’t any more talented player by player than any of the other schools around. He knew what to do with the talent he had, how to motivate them, and how to succeed. I can’t say for Heritage because I have not followed them or watched them play in over a decade. However, I have seen William Blount on multiple occasions. The Govs have had talent, there just has not been anyone there to man the helm. I’m sure someone is going to be mad about me saying that, but you can’t have talent and be in the Mecca for Tn high school football and lose that consistently. Either there is a disconnect between the head coach and the players or there is no leadership or guidance and no one to put the kids in position to succeed. That’s why students leave WB for Alcoa and Maryville, along with other schools around the area. There are better facilities with better coaches and a greater chance to succeed right across the street. The kids don’t play football for a jacket or to be cool. The ones that do have no problem playing for teams that lose. However, the kids that are good do care about winning and they care about their future prospects of continuing to play. As I said, I can’t speak for Heritage, but after watching WB, it’s painfully obvious why a talented player would transfer. BTW, I have no affiliation with ANY of the teams mentioned. Just stating the obvious.
  6. I love Friday nights under the lights at a football game, but sometimes the games are moved to Thursday because the field being extremely wet increases chances of injury drastically. A lot of people won’t show up anyway if it’s pouring rain unless it’s an extremely important game such as a big rivalry or the sort.
  7. Grabowski has had a great year! If the game against North Georgia would have been played instead of being cancelled for weather only 2:33 into the game, then his numbers would be exponentially better. It was 16-0 in the 2:33. Basin has another player with Chase Mickens that should be mentioned as a big play maker. With everyone mentioning Willis at Greenback, and rightfully so, Chase has been back and forth with him all season for #1 in the state for yardage. Basin is doing great things this season and those two kids are a huge part of that. Glad to see things on the up swing!
  8. Rutgerson is a phenomenal athlete for GB! He hasn’t stood out necessarily in one position this season, but that is not because of lack of ability. They play Rutgerson all over the field and he has shown to be dangerous at all of them! He is great out of the backfield, he can pull in tough catches and make big plays when they spread him out, and he has proven that he is more than capable to take snaps behind center. He is also lethal when returning kicks. Not to mention that he is a lockdown DB! Willis and Carnes are great ball players and I do not mean to take anything away from them, but Rutgerson has not received near the recognition that he deserves for his performances this season. The GB squad is more than solid and should make their way deep into the playoffs, if not bring home a golden ball!
