  1. How many state championship games did Coach Wheeler make where Coach Kirby wasn't on staff calling plays? I should rest my case there, because the answer is zero but I’ll continue; The ball has bounced Covington’ s way a long, long time in key moments such as the 28-27 over time win against Milan in ‘17 the 28-27 win over South Gibson ‘18 the 14-10 come back win over South Gibson in ‘19. The knock down drag out win 20-13 win over Haywood in ‘20. Those moments just come to mind over the last 5 years. I can assure you, there are countless more moments where the ball bounced Covington’s way in key moments, and will continue to bounce Covington’s way in key moments. Covington wins ball games right now in the off season; December, January, February,March, April, May, June, July. They win them in the weight room, day in, day out. So please, continue to fault a Coach and team who has been booted from the Quarter and Semi Round the last 2 trips by a combined TWO points. I can assure you, those cats are going to work every day in the weight room to find those two points.
  2. 2019 11-3 Semi Final loss to Pearl Cohn (15 total points deciding factor; 14-7, 20-13, 21-20) 2020 8-2 Covid Forfeit in 2nd Round (8 total points deciding factor; 14-7, 22-21) 2021 9-3 Quarterfinal loss (44 total point deciding factor; 29-22 Dyersburg, 33-0 Haywood, 21-20 Dyersburg) 28-8 (78% winning percentage) That’s without getting into the 2-0 record Coach Kirby has head up over Coach Wheeler; or facility upgrades that the current coach and staff has personally completed and facilitated since March 2019.
  3. Covington Football JoeBlow777 posted a topic in Class 3A & Class 4A WHAT IN THE WORLD HAS HAPPENED TO COVINGTON? They have now lost 3 in a row after a loss to Raleigh Egypt tonight. They were ranked top 10 in the state preseason and everyone that I talked to thought they would be a typical covington team that would probably go undefeated in the regular season. The wheels have come off over in tipton county it seems September 16, 2016 10 replies That you from 2016 when Wheeler was the coach? I know Fayette Academy doesn't have much to get excited for, I am happy to sell you a season pass for Covington!
  4. I have talked to Coach Kirby multiple times since Friday about the game. He has never said the word “dominated”; that was added in by the paper. Albeit he did say Covington lead in every stat but the most important which was turnovers; which is 100% facts. First Downs CHS 16 DHS 8 Total Yards CHS 223 DHS 216 Rushing CHS 62/223 yards 2 TDS DHS 24/128 2 TDS
  5. Sleep on this and delete in the morning.. What’s frustrating is going 2-8 and 4-6 your junior and senior year. Be grateful for who you got and the product that gets put on the field year in, year out. Covington has made it to the quarter finals 15 TIMES since 1997. More teams than not are eating popcorn in the stands come November. ps so there’s no confusion or question who this came from - Logan Wall
  6. He's recorded 200 yard ball park 4 times, 150 yard ball park 3 times. Ill admit 350 yards/game may be have been a bit excessive but it was Friday and I was excited.
  7. Against Bolton 7 carries 154 yards, 2 TDS. Millington is understandable, that is out of their control, but Dyer County didn't want to play for a reason. That was evident in that 54-7 JV rout. He easily gets 350 yards on 20 carries against both of those teams.
  8. J Dowell had 7 carries for 152 yards and 2 TDs Friday
  9. It is sad for Jamarion Dowell really; With Covington not getting to play Millington or Dyer County during the regular season, it easily cheated him out of 700 yards of rushing minimum. He sits right now with 135 carries for 1167 yards, averaging 8.6 yards per carry.
  10. Moving to Chatt or staying in Cookeville? Where you got
  11. Good points all the way around. I agree completely. I have always thought that (in a perfect world) you would have great parent involvement, but also need great alum support; preferably at the helm, just to keep emotion at bay between parents and playing time etc.. Parent involvement seems to be an issue with other booster clubs i've had discussion with. Always seems to be the same handful of parents involved.
  12. Just curious, what makes a successful booster club for high school football from your perspective? Don't remember ever seeing a thread or discussion on the topic here and what better is there to talk about during the off season. Any "out of the box" fundraiser ideas that have been successful other than the run of the mill things? Programs that help the kids better their lives after football? Seems like it could be a fun discussion that will maybe lead to ideas that could help make your respective kids and coaches lives better during and after football.
