  1. I’m of the mindset you don’t get ranked till you beat ranked. No complaints with the newest set you out put out. In regards to the 100lbers yes slim chance they met there. But DB didn’t go to the Greeneville all girls tourney, even Clarksville, Cleveland, Gibbs, and Bradley made that trip they just were missing Rossview from that becoming a good states preview. But no DB, greeneville obviously didn’t attend Indian classic (not sure if there even was a girls division). And then DB doesn’t bring girls to Delaware or Florida a place greeneville was. Not sure the story.
  2. Looks like they didn’t show. Not sure if it is a Christmas issue, weight issue, or what. DB has no girls in the brackets, so they clearly took the boys and left the girls home. Greeneville did not take Johnson as she is not in the bracket. not sure the issue. If I’m the DB girl at 100 I would not be waiting until regionals to see the Greeneville girl. Getting dangerously close to the appearance of someone ducking the other, not sure who’s at fault though.
  3. I’m not saying he had a bad tournament, I hope that wasn’t misconstrued in anyway. I could argue the tournament was seeded terribly but any 3 seed is tough at that caliber tournament and wouldn’t want to take that away from Norman. We see him called the “senior killer” or “super sophomore” in TN all the time and some holes in his game got exposed this weekend is all I meant. If he continues to progress he may grace the beast podium very very soon. Young man puts it on the line and I can appreciate anyone that does that.
  4. I’ve seen Norman wrestle a ton. And he has beaten some heavy competition. I’m not trying to diminish any of what he has done. he’s a bracket buster everywhere he has been. He rattled off a phenomenal tournament last year at state and this summer in Fargo. He ran into technically sound wrestlers and didn’t get the results no shame in that.
  5. Summit had a great tournament. Little and Desselle picking up medals is big time no matter what the weight. Working through a 64 man bracket is never easy. DB getting their freshman a medal in a tough 113 bracket is big time for him. Really puts him on the national stage, hopefully they will continue to give him the opportunities. For all the talk of Max Norman’s greatness we didn’t really see it this weekend, I would have expected a medal with who people say he is.
  6. I don’t think any of the schools or programs would choose to not have a specific girls coach. But it appears to be more difficult than just deciding that they want one. Quality coaches are more difficult to come by than one may assume, we have several good programs in TN not all are ran by what I would consider good coaches. And some schools do not support wrestling the way it should be. Their may not be the money for girls coaches to be hired in certain areas. as far as becoming the top girl in TN, that’ll get settled eventually as everyone will meet before it’s all said and done. I can appreciate going and finding other competition while you can even if you aren’t a top TN girl ( such as the Greenville 100 girl).
  7. If the argument is “grow girls wrestling by staying in TN” then you can’t say to go wrestle freestyle also. From what I’ve seen Greeneville only fielding 5 girls, so duals would be a waste for them to attend they couldn’t win anything there. On the other side, the 107 Baines has traveled a lot so this was probably a continuation of that. And the little 100 pounder while unproven against the top in TN had good results up north. I’m sure this was a pack mentality trip, I was surprised DB didn’t take any of their girls with them as well. Especially in programs that do not have specific girls coaches and can’t spread themselves out that thin from a coaching perspective.
  8. Only 2 teams made the trip this year, losing Lakeway from the field, Baylor and Greeneville Only 2 TN medals Colin Dupill 4th and Omaury Alvarez 6th. For greeneville, Dupill improves on his finish from last year, but little brother misses the podium going out in the blood round unable to repeat as a medalist after injury default. In his first competition back since injury it would appear Mason still has some rust to shake off after a 2-2 performance from the Beast finalist. For Baylor, Alvarez taking 6th is great. But they took 8 of their kids and didn’t manage to do much outside of him. With Sturgill, Tisdale, and Bond all going 1-2 exiting the tournament before day two. Greeneville out placed Baylor proving once again they’ve got some crazy talent in the small school division.
  9. Talked to a Greeneville coach last night. Was told Hunter and Collin no go for this weekend as they focus on Ironman tourney next week, but we may see Carson as he wants to feel the weight class.
  10. 3 NHSCA champs in the last 2 weeks have been taken out by the upcoming Junior. The boy has been a workhorse. You can see he has taken a shining to Nashon Garrett and the way they train. Congratulations to Hunter and his support system.
  11. We could argue the different style makes Fargo less impressive than Super32. The only common opponent I have seen when following them is Jimmy Harrington. He beat Trae at Elite 8 duals. Hunter Mason beat Jimmy. I’m not a big fan of the transitive property in wrestling, but to blatantly say Trae is superior is ignorant.
  12. Most interesting weight here to me is 126. Trae appears almost unstoppable at times. But he was slowed in his finals match. Would like to see him vs Hunter Mason the Freshman A/AA champ. Also I’m not picking anyone against James Howard at HWT. He is Extremely tough and almost just plays with kids on the mat. Horst is a machine at 132, sad to see him miss national preps this year. Could have made a huge splash for TN. Along with Dendy at 138, I wasn’t as impressed with him early on at Super32. But has become more impressive as the year progressed. Kodiak Cannedy has been one of the most impressive 145’s in the state. I probably wouldn’t pick against him in the state of TN. Didn’t appear to even break a sweat on his way to a second state title.
  13. Tons of returning medalist. Lots of guys that have beaten each other. Josh Parton is another name there that could really shake things up early as he runs into Lucio in the quarters.
  14. I heard a story through the grapevine that an opposing coach went to find a referee and pointed him out specifically. Was hoping someone had a better explanation of exactly what happened, and the situation of “cutting weight”. Hate to see any kid get left out of the state tournament.
