It's an old one but a team of amateurs beat the Soviet Union in Hockey in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, and the Soviets were considerable unbeatable at that time.  If that can happen, then the odds of Cleveland getting upset are what, a 1000x greater?  Remember all the pressure, every bit of it, resides on Cleveland to do nothing but win and win big.  Nobody else has even the slightest chance

    Agree 100%

  2. So the stage is set how will the teams fall.

    DB

    Halls

    Cleveland

    Bradley

    Summit

    Brentwood

    Bartlett

    Arlington

3 pairs from same region, both returning state champs (A and AA), 3 teams seeded, and returning state runner up unseeded. Make take some time for that random draw to compute.

Pretty sure Millington is probably Region 8 in small school. Not sure who the other team is from Region 5 large school but positive it wont be Millington. Historically, Wilson Central has usually came from this region so that would be my first guess. Not sure if they have the team they usually have but we'll see soon.

WC is down this year. Not sure where I got Millington from, but looking back over I believe it is McGavock

  5. So far looks like

    Region 1:

    1. DB

    2, Science Hill

    Region 2: (happening tonight 1/25)

    Winner of Halls vs HVA

    Winner of Maryville vs Powell

    Region 3: (happening tonight 1/25)

Winner of Cleveland vs East Hamilton

Winner of Bradley vs Walker Valley

    Region 4:  (happening tonight 1/25)

Winner of Blackman vs Warren Co

    Oakland vs Stewarts Creek

    I believe these are correct

    Region 5: (happening tonight 1/25)

Winner of Hendersonville vs Green Hill

    Winner of Cookeville vs McGavock

    I believe these are correct

    Region 6: (happening tonight 1/25)

Top 2 out of Brentwood, Nolensville, Ravenwood, and Summit

NFHS do they get these from talking to coaches around the nation or something because they just kind of seem idiotic, which speaking of NFHS is par for the course. But why not start at 110 instead of 106,07 or 08?  Start at 110 and go 110, 115, 120, 126, 132, 140, 148, 156, 165, 175, 190, 205, 225, 300 or unlimited or I like the idea of going 13 or 15 so we shouldnt have criteria anymore deciding important dual matches.

Because there are freshman who are 90-100lbs. Giving up 20% of their weight isn't growing the sport. We need a 98 or 100lb then a 108-110. As well as a 240ish and then unlimited.

    100, 108, 115, 123, 130, 138, 145, 156, 165, 175, 190, 210, 245, unlimited

You must be from Anderson County.

Nope, seen him handle large 285lbs guys, some top in the state! I just picked who I thought was best. Never said it was going to be easy, but think he is smart enough to do it.

TSSAA website states "No tickets will be sold to the public." but then the Governor lifted attendance restrictions as of February 1st.

Does anyone have any inside info on if there will be tickets sold for spectators for Thursday, Friday or Saturday?

On top of that will this weather and subsequent school closings affect State competition?

From https://tssaa.org/state-wrestling-tournament-instructions "In accordance with current TSSAA COVID-19 Sports Regulations, attendance in the Chattanooga Convention Center will be limited to ⅓ capacity. After accounting for registered TSSAA coaches and qualified participants, that only leaves enough space for two tickets for each qualifier. In addition, qualifiers may only enter the exhibit hall on the day of their competition. Schools that have participants in the girls’ division and boys’ division (AAA, A-AA) will need to make arrangements for those who are not competing in the event if they are traveling together.

Competition will be taking place in the main exhibit hall (A,B,C,D) of the Chattanooga Convention Center. Admission is $12 per day and each participating school will be allocated two tickets per qualifier. All tickets must be purchased in advance online using GoFan. Everyone age 5 and older must have a ticket to enter. By Tuesday, February 16 at 10am CST, each participating school’s head coach and athletic director will receive an email directly from GoFan with one promo code per qualifier that will allow for the purchase of two tickets. Schools should make plans for how to pass that code along to each wrestler’s family for use. No tickets will be sold on site at the event and no one except participating coaches and wrestlers will be allowed entry to the exhibit hall without a ticket

TSSAA Championship Event Cards and TACA Cards will not be accepted for entry."

Braxton drew him randomly I think because he didn’t win his region. As to why Chittum isn’t the one seed I’m going to guess some rule about out of state placing?

    2020-21 TSSAA Handbook

    WRESTLING REGULATIONS

    I.

    IV. STATE TOURNAMENT (Division I)

The draw for the state tournament shall be made by the state office and shall be released after the completion of all regional wrestling tournaments.

Wrestlers who meet the qualification shall be placed in each weight division in the state tournament. In order to be placed, a wrestler must be a regional champion and must have been a state place finisher during his high school career. The criteria for placing shall be as follows:

    1. Separate all state champions (includes state champions from other states).

    2. The following criteria shall be used to separate state champions: (a) state champion at same weight, (b) state champion at higher weight, (c) state champion at lower weight. (If there are two state champions at the same weight the state champion from Tennessee will receive the higher seed.)

    3. Follow the same procedure as #2 above for 2nd place from previous year, 3rd place from previous year,

    4. Items #2 and #3 shall be applied in order to wrestlers who placed in the state tournament two yeas prior.

    5. Blind draw.

Yes, should be on opposite side from other wrestler in their region but don’t they otherwise get a random draw?  So they could meet a high seed from another region very early, correct?  It happened to Belcher last year.

You are correct region champ and runner ups will be on opposite side of the brackets. Also, returning state placers will be seeded (if they won their region this year). Besides that it a 1 vs. 2 random draw.

Belcher lost by 2 in the bloods last year.

How many did Wilson qualify?  Cleveland qualified 11 and I think Bradley qualified 9.  Barring injury, Cleveland has 2 locks to win at 138 and 145.  2 other likely finalists at 113 and 220.  A few other potential finalists.  I would think Cleveland places at all qualified weights except maybe 160.

    Cleveland: 11

    Wilson Central: 10

    Bradley: 9

    Blackman: 9

    Summit: 9

    Knoxville Halls: 9

    Maryville: 9

    Heritage: 9

I may have missed a school, but pretty sure those are the teams with the most qualifiers.
