  4. BY MAURICE PATTON Main Street Maury Richland (4-5, 1-3) at Loretto (3-6, 0-4): Richland needs a win to clinch a postseason berth, after a loss two weeks ago to Region 5-2A titlist Forrest and a 42-14 non-region defeat in Week 10 at East Hickman -- managing just 162 offensive yards in the latter, despite WR Ethan Workman’s three catches for 58 yards. The recent slide stopped a three-game win streak for the Raiders. Loretto has lost four of its last five, including an 18-6 Week 9 decision against visiting Cascade. The Mustangs are hopeful that the week off will allow for the return of junior RB Caden Porter (649 yards, seven TDs). With a win, Loretto could help create a three-way tie for the final playoff spot out of the region. Richland 27, Loretto 14. Mt. Pleasant (3-6, 1-3) at Forrest (6-3, 4-0): A road win over the Region 5-2A champion would be the first on the field since mid-September for the Tigers, who fell 14-7 last week to visiting Spring Hill despite a 223-yard passing performance by sophomore QB Nick Brown. WR Demarkus Brown finished with 115 receiving yards on nine catches, with Davion Meza adding 80 (including a 52-yard TD) on four receptions. Maintaining that production in the passing game would give Mt. Pleasant a chance against the Rockets, who dropped a 21-17 decision to East Robertson in Week 10. Playing a complementary brand of football, Forrest has allowed more than 21 points just once all year while surpassing that mark three times. In region play, the Rockets have won by an average of 16 points. Forrest 28, Mt. Pleasant 16. Summertown (6-2, 3-1) at Cascade (8-1, 3-1): Second place in Region 5-2A -- and a state playoff opening-round home game -- is at stake when the Eagles hit the road after three straight homefield victories. Following league wins over Loretto and Mt. Pleasant, Summertown edged Lewis County 7-6 in a Week 10 Thursday night contest. QB Colton Shaffer and RB Javen Edmiston key the Eagle attack, while the defense has allowed just two touchdowns in its last three games. Like the Eagles, Cascade’s only loss came at the hands of Forrest, 24-7. Aside from that Week 7 slipup, the Champions have been consistent offensively and defensively, limiting opponents to two touchdowns or less in seven of nine outings and scoring at least 20 points in all but three of their contests. Summertown 21, Cascade 14.

  7. Can’t really compare scores against teams 5 seasons apart to validate a coach. Forrest, Westmoreland, and East Robertson are all 3 about equal this year. though.
  8. We've made it to the end. Five of the six teams have a shot the playoffs. Mt. Pleasant's overall record was hurt by scheduling 2 5A teams and not winning. #1. Forrest hosts #5 Mt. Pleasant #2 Cascade hosts #3 Summertown #6 Loretto hosts #4 Richland Mt. Pleasant can play spoiler and ruin Forrest's region perfection. Cascade and Summertown have a home playoff game on the line. Loretto can go from #6 to #4 and the playoffs with a win and a little help.
  9. Maurice's Picks are In. Mostradamus speaks: Predictions for Week 10 | Maury | mainstreetpreps.com Spring Hill (0-7) at Mt. Pleasant (3-5): Offense has been in short supply for both these teams of late: Mt. Pleasant has scored just three touchdowns in its last 12 quarters, with one of those coming on a kickoff return, while the Raiders have scored once on each side of the ball over the same time frame. This matchup marks the renewal of a rivalry last played in 2014, with Spring Hill winning the last two contests and three over a six-year span to take a 15-9 advantage in the series. Sustaining drives and winning the turnover battle will key a victory for one of these squads. Mt. Pleasant 10, Spring Hill 6. Lewis Co. (7-1) at Summertown (5-2): Eagles coach Dakota Crews faces off against his alma mater and his coach, Bobby Sharp, after taking a 42-21 loss a year ago as Summertown’s defensive coordinator. Though this isn’t a regional contest, it could conceivably be a preview of a postseason matchup, pending regular-season finishes for both teams. The Panthers’ only loss came in Week 2, to defending Class 1A state champ Fayetteville; since then, Lewis County has been on a roll behind 3A Mr. Football candidate Blake Carroll (1,093 all-purpose yards, 11 offensive TDs), outsourcing their last six opponents by an average of three touchdowns. Following its Week 9 win over Mt. Pleasant, Summertown will play its regular-season finale at Cascade with a shot at the Region 5-2A runner-up spot and a home game to open the playoffs. RB Javen Edmiston and QB Colton Shaffer, who teamed for 196 yards and a pair of rushing TDs vs. Mt. Pleasant, lead the Eagle attack. Lewis Co. 31, Summertown 23. Richland (4-4) at East Hickman (5-2): Still in the hunt for a playoff spot out of Region 5-2A, the Raiders warm up for their decisive season finale at Loretto with a road trip -- and the Eagles are trying to secure their own postseason appearance out of 6-2A. East Hickman, idle last week, has won four of its last five outings and scored 40-plus points in each of those victories. Most recently, the Eagles downed Hickman County 43-40. The Raiders defeated Hickman County 42-7 for their first win of the season in Week 4. Richland has scored at least 35 points in each of its four victories, but comes off a 28-14 loss last week to visiting Forrest. QB Bryce Miller (784 passing yards, eight TDs) has provided the Raiders with a passing game to balance senior RB Sam Edwards (623 yards, seven TDs) on the ground. Richland 34, East Hickman 28.
  10. Cornersville had to play the Clay County game without their running back who also plays linebacker. Clay County is very good and the dawgs were out of sync on both sides of the ball. Rockets will be in the same situation this week if #1 is out. Big shoes to fill on offense and defense.
  11. East Robertson at Forrest JOEL CLINGER jclinger@mainstreetmediatn.com East Robertson may be coming off of last week’s overtime loss to Westmoreland a little deflated. The Indians now need one more region win to advance to the playoffs. This, however, is not a region game, and that is a good thing. Forrest just wrapped up the Region 5-2A crown last week. The Indians need to do whatever they can to be ready to go against Whites Creek next week because that game will determine if they make the playoffs or not. Pick: Forrest 34, East Robertson 14
  12. Almost to the end. Two interesting Region 5 vs Region 6 matchups will give us a glimpse of how the teams compare entering the playoffs. #1 Forrest hosts East Robertson #2 Cascade Bye Week #3 Summertown hosts Lewis County #4 Richland hosts East Hickman #5 Mt Pleasant hosts Spring Hill #6 Loretto Bye Week

  15. BY MAURICE PATTON Cascade (7-1, 2-1) at Loretto (3-5, 0-3): Despite a Week 7 loss to Region 5-2A leader Forrest, the Champions are still eying a home game to open the playoffs. QB/LB Ryan Inmon heads a dominant ground game and defense that has held seven of eight foes to 17 points or fewer, including a 22-14 win over visiting Jo Byrns last week. Loretto, meanwhile, stopped a three-game skid in Week 8 with a 21-13 win at Moore County. RB Kase Tucker rushed for 187 yards and all three TDs -- giving him 461 yards and five scores on the year -- in the absence of Caden Porter (643 yards, seven TDs), still nursing an ankle injury sustained in a 19-0 loss at Summertown the previous week. Tucker and Porter, if available, could provide the Mustangs with a one-two ground-game punch that could challenge the visitors. Cascade 20, Loretto 14. Forrest (5-2, 3-0) at Richland (4-3, 1-2): The ninth-ranked (Associated Press Class 2A) Rockets were idle following their 24-7 win at Cascade and look to virtually clinch the Region 5-2A title with a road win. Forrest rushed for 220 of its 267 offensive yards in the Cascade victory, led by RB Chris Davis (eight carries, 86 yards). Richland, meanwhile, comes off a stretch of three games during which the Raiders have outscored their opponents 124-6 -- most recently getting a four-TD passing performance from sophomore QB Bryce Miller in a 35-6 non-region win over Collinwood. RB Sam Edwards leads the Richland ground game with 551 yards and seven TDs. Forrest 26, Richland 20. Mt. Pleasant (3-4, 1-2) at Summertown (4-2, 2-1): Injuries have helped knock the Tigers off stride, but a road win here against the same team that started their slide with a 13-12 victory in the 2020 season opener would do Mt. Pleasant a lot of good -- both emotionally and in terms of postseason prospects. While they’ve been sporadic offensively, the Tigers’ defensive play will be the key in this one. LBs Euriah Archibald and Matthew Holden have performed well behind a front led by Gavin Alderson, and they’ll be put to the test by the Eagles’ run-based attack. QB Colton Shaffer and RB Javen Edmiston provide a two-pronged threat, combining for eight TDs in five on-field games. Both coming off open dates, the winner keeps itself firmly in the playoff hunt out of Region 5-2A. Summertown 28, Mt. Pleasant 17.

  22. It took the refs 28 seconds to spot the ball and start the play clock after the reception. Middle TN refs start as soon as the chains move. Following the spike, 1 minute and 6 seconds ran off the the TV clock before the next snap. Head ref can be seen giving the reset the play clock signal in the background when he realized Peabody won't be out of their sideline huddle in time. Ncuppy has a valid point. If #19 can finish a tackle there would be nothing to discuss. Nice run by #7.
  23. Forrest Middle School takes on the Fayetteville Tigers tonight in Chapel Hill in the league championship game. The undefeated Rockets are said to be one of the best groups to walk the halls at Forrest.
  24. Maurice's Picks. No pick for Cascade-Forrest. He was 8-0 last week. Loretto (2-4, 0-2) at Summertown (2-2, 1-1), Thursday: The winner of this Pegasus Cup clash takes the lead in the series, as the two teams have split the previous six matchups -- Summertown claiming a 12-7 road decision last year after the Mustangs earned a 31-30 double-overtime victory in enemy territory in ‘19. The Eagles were off in Week 6 following a 33-7 loss at Region 5-2A frontrunner Forrest, but have shown some offensive potential behind QB Colton Shaffer (612 offensive yards, seven TDs) and RB Javen Edmiston (270 rushing yards, two TDs). Loretto has been the victim of tough luck through the first half of the season, with each of its four losses coming by 10 points or fewer -- none closer than a 21-20 defeat last week at Lewis County, decided by a two-point conversion with eight seconds remaining. RBs Caden Porter and Kase Tucker have paced the Mustang ground game, teaming for 855 rushing yards and nine TDs. This one figures to be another nailbiter. Summertown 22, Loretto 20. Richland (2-3, 0-2) at Mt. Pleasant (3-3, 1-1): With a pair of narrow losses in Region 5-2A action, the Raiders picked up some much-needed momentum in a 47-0 homecoming victory against First Assembly Christian a week ago. QB Bryce Miller threw for a pair of TDs in the win, continuing to develop an underrated facet of the team’s offense, while RB Sam Edwards rushed for 150 yards and a score. The Tigers, meanwhile, got an impressive defensive performance from DB Euriah Archibald -- 16 tackles, six solos, five for loss, with two sacks, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries -- in their loss to Columbia Central. LB Matthew Holden added an interception for Mt. Pleasant, which will need another inspired effort on that side of the ball. Richland defeated the Tigers 14-7 a year ago, marking the Raiders’ first win in the series since 1993 and stopping a 14-game losing streak. Mt. Pleasant 24, Richland 20.
  25. This Friday one team can make playoff reservations and a few teams can start thinking about basketball season. Cascade/ Forrest winner is in the region drivers seat. A Richland or Loretto loss means a probable elimination from post season. Summertown and Mt. Pleasant stay in the hunt with wins this Friday. #1 Cascade (2-0) hosts Forrest (2-0). #3 Mt. Pleasant (1-1) hosts #6 Richland (0-2) #4 Summertown (1-1) hosts #5 Loretto (0-2)
