  1. From what I know (take it however).. The AD didn't hire this coach nor does he really want him around from word on the street. School districts/boards are ultimately responsible for hiring and firing not the AD.
  2. You are allowed to have your opinion but it's just that an opinion. I am sure that most people who have watched basketball know the number of A's your school is doesn't matter. Lot's of single A schools have and will continue to beat 3 and 4 A schools. In my numerous years in and around basketball, I've only seen a handful of teams that I thought were just unbeatable.. Bearden isn't one of them..
  3. Just heard this morning that a different coach had been hired not Kody Howard.. The new HC is Brian Reid. Wonder what happened with Kody?
  4. I just saw this posted. Anyone know anything about it? Why did the coach leave?
  5. I am 100% for a shot clock. I feel like "most" teams would not be affected by a :30 shot clock outside of holding the ball at the end of the game. I am almost positive that even though the BOC is discussing this today that we will not get a shot clock within the next 5 years. Most schools have a hard enough time getting people to keep the clock, books, score board, etc...
  6. I personally like the JCH tournament as it is the oldest MS tournament in the state. My daughter looks forward to playing in it each year and likes the idea that I also played as a 6th-8th grader in the tournament. It was a big deal to us as players many years ago and is still a big deal to current players. I can't imagine a MS post season without it.
  7. I do agree. I've always thought the more you can play and the better programs you play can only make you better but I also am not a hall of fame coach and I do know that each coach needs to make his/her own decisions based on what's best for that team in that moment or season. I know that you may not reach out to a team to add them to schedule but I am big on playing who you draw in a tournament/playday or scrimmage as long as they aren't in your district. For me, that would be the only exception.
  8. No it hasn't always been York over Clarkrange if I understand your comment correctly. There are years that YAI has the talent and ability to advance deep and some years it has been Clarkrange. When you have two very storied and traditional teams in the same small county you can almost guarantee that there will be years the players end up on the North end of the county vs the South end of county and vice versa.
  9. Recruiting isn't limited to the UC. It's across the state.
  10. For me this district doesn't have one team that just stands out. There are things that each team needs to improve on. I do know that this should be an interesting district to watch come tournament time.
  11. I've watched several of those schools from that district and you are 100% right about no one being able to touch SS. I haven't seen SG but I've heard from several that they are not playing up to what was expected as of right now. I do think under the right circumstances that if SG isn't playing up to expectations and McNairy improves then those two could compete against each other. I'm was really shocked at how weak the McNairy district ended up being. I know there were some coaching changes and I've heard through the rumor mill about some issues within certain teams, but I would have at least expected to see a couple of competitive games from this district.
  12. While I don't disagree that Clarkrange is somewhat down (as of right now) Basketball is a marathon season and it really only matters that the chemistry/magic starts to happen at tournament time. Coach Rogers understands this and his desire to win and ability to coach has not diminished over the years. His loss early in the tournament last year bothered him and I truly believe that if any coach can continue to grow and push a team it's him. As far as York having all the "good" players they are stacked this year and probably next year. It's always back and forth in that area and the rotation will move back to Clarkrange. Any time you have two traditional and historically good/great teams in the same small county this will happen. At the end of the day don't count Clarkrange out and if York is down in a couple of years... don't count them out!!
  13. What about Hardin Co.? They were in the mix last year if I remember correctly and upset some teams at tournament time.
  14. I can't speak for all teams or all west tn teams but there are teams that are holding 5v5 practices everyday during a basketball period. I truly think there are coaches who follow the rules but there are also coaches who don't. I also think there are several people who assume the coaches are practicing illegally when in reality the girls are putting in lots of time on there own. Regardless of who is or isn't practicing illegally, I 100 percent agree with pioneer42. It's up to the student to do the individual work. GBB or WBB is no longer about getting what you need pre season, in season, or post season. It's about how hard you are working on your own. When I played I would have never thought to do the things my 7th grader is doing right now. She does weight training, conditioning, agility 4 days a week at 5 am. Then practice/games 4 days a week and ball handling drills 4-5 days/week. For her, she wants it and is willing to put in the work.
