  1. I have watched Clinton for the past two seasons you are discussing and the biggest issue is inability to sustain drives without Weston. Last year most points resulted from big plays by our athletes. We were unable to control the ball and that puts the defense on the field a lot. Also, depth is major issue on both sides. We could average more points per game if we would kick field goals. Someone told me our time of possession was only 19 minutes a game. Sometimes numbers don't show the big picture. Defense was anemic at times as was ball control, especially after halftime in most games. Depth would alleviate that. Youth was also an issue. More numbers are needed. Hopefully the new coach will get them out of the hallways. Sure would love to see them back in playoffs. Remember the score of OR, AC, and Powell at the half? Young dragons just ran out of steam. I think we can fix that.
  2. Williams also threw 9 interceptions against Clinton in two games . . . one got called back on a questionable roughing penalty. He is a system QB, good kid, great numbers, but long balls float, arm strength is lacking when compared to the rest on the list.
  3. The Dragons look to have been an injury away from having the opportunity to play for a state championship this year. A healthy Hazelhurst and this team rolls through the playoffs, but injuries are part of the game. Next year the offense will continue to roll with the exception of missing the running ability at QB. The defense will have a challenge replacing the entire secondary. This team should be tough up front on both sides of the ball. Next year give Camion, Austin, Dee, Corey, and Dylan Dotson the ball and you will still have a massive highlight reel. I do not have a vested interest anymore but I think they will have a good group of athletes and should have learned a good lesson this year about overlooking an opponent. They may go farther than this year with the proper work ethic. Hopefully they will stay injury free. I hope noone overlooks the Dragons next year or they will be sorry. My prediction is that the AC game could be for highest 5A seed once again. Only time will tell. Good luck to the Dragons, the Mavs, and The Cats next year. It looks like Anderson County football (all 3 schools) are back to playing winning football. Please, Space3, no trashtalking on the Clinton thread! I would say they will be better next year than you think, kinda like your Mavs this year.
  4. I think it is time, Clinton Fans, to move on to thinking about the future and it is a bright one. You are now at the point where you are not rebuilding, simply reloading. I look at the starters that you have coming back in Austin Powell, Camion Patrick, Dee Shannon, Corey Washington along with Ambrose at QB and the skill positions look very promising. You will be much bigger and more physical up front which will help. A good year of hitting the weights and you will be in good shape. Coaches need to hit the halls and get some of the promising kids back out. You all have the potential to make another playoff run. Now that the seniors are gone you should have bigger numbers because there will be more competition for playing time. Everyone should not be surprised when you have a few more good years because you have a good nucleus back of skill and interior players. You also have a kid that will potentially be the best to ever play at Clinton in Patrick, people will forget about Scotty Whitt by the time this kid is done. Good Luck. Keep up the winning tradition.
  5. I wouldn't call the Clinton season destroyed. Here is the bottom line . . . you won when it counted, but we split with you all without our best player. A healthy #2 and neither game is close. You cannot in good faith argue that fact, but an injury (which is part of the game) got you to the third round. So, talk as much trash as you want AC fans. Everyone in Clinton, even you, knows that what was just said is the truth. Must be bittersweet. Good luck in Columbia, I mean that. Just please stop bashing our kids and coaches for doing their best minus their workhorse, that is not what this forum is for. It is about the next game. Move on, you won. I hope this game did not make your season because you all have more to play for like a state championship.
  6. I have been watching this SR group at Clinton for a long time. My son is a member of that class and is a friend of Mr. Weston Hazelhurst. He IS playing, starts to practice tomorrow. He and Darian will be the best players on the field. I am excited to see what our offense looks like because AC will have to be more sound defensively then in the previous game. I think they played well, but the way they were moving around could cause some confusion and lead to a big night for Weston in the running game. Also, just the addition of Hazelhurst to the defense that has forced 16 turnovers in the last three games will be a game changer. Most of the things AC did to Clinton will be taken away by one of the best if not the best LB in TN.
  7. Space3 you got me thinking so I just looked at TSSAA.org. The district standings in a 3-way tie would be determined by the team that had won the most games. Thus, if Clinton beats O.R. and loses to A.C. then Clinton is still 1st in the district. That, under my understanding would mean that A.C. would still be 2nd seed for playoffs. I could be wrong, but I did just read how they determine district standings and that determines playoff seeding.
  8. Not fabricated at all. They are saying we have not beaten anyone. You have to remember that a former CHS student/athlete is now a Panther. Word travels fast these days. Good luck to both teams. I hope the rain holds off.
  9. Powell gave up 44 points to Karns . . . Clinton hung 42-10 on Karns at half and Karns' TD was off a turnover inside Clinton's 20. With that being said the math adds up to a long night for the Panthers and their small LB's and DB's. If Clinton can take Mobley out of the equation then they should roll. I have a feeling they will be hungry after a sub par performance. Apparently the Powell coaches and players are saying Clinton has not proven anything because their schedule has been weak. That may add fuel to the dragon fire. On a side note, they are taking one game at a time, no talk of anyone except for Powell.
  10. Clinton's offensive and defensive stats are a bit misleading because starters have only had to play one entire game (D-. They used subs in the 4th at Halls and against Roberson and in the 3rd/4th against Karns and Hardin Valley. My son said that the staff is keeping up with the stats when the varsity is playing separate from the game stats. I will have to wait until tomorrow to see them updated myself, but as of last week the varsity defense was giving up 3.64 yards/play and less than 175 yards per game. From the look of Friday that improved. Also averaging 12.75 points given up . . . Karns, Hardin Valley, and Roberson all added scores after subbing. I know that goes on the season average, but would it have really happened if starters were in?? AC will be able to throw on Clinton, but he better get it off fast.
  11. According to the KNS Halls ran the ball 37 times for 87 yards or 2.35 yards per carry . . . that is not very impressive and they have to run the ball to be successful. I think Clinton may have just wanted to get Hazelhurst back involved after missing the bulk of last season. They will be balanced on offense and hopefully continue their improvement on defense.
  12. Webb outscored Clinton 4-2 varsity. The first was a swap of 10 play series and Webb scored two times in their 20 offensive plays. Clinton did not score. Then came the down and distance part of the scrimmage and it was 2-2. Clinton had to adjust to the wing-T and Webb has some excellent backs and are physical. I think my son said Clinton coaches were using the first part of the scrimmage to adjust to the offense Webb runs. Webb Freshman dominated Clinton, but Clinton's ace is playing with the varsity. They played this between the 10-play and down and distance scrimmage sessions. I know the way Webb executes they will give people fits. The Soph. RB is the real deal.
  13. Justin Price was a great QB, but he did not have the upside or the potential that Darian has. Justin Price was a tremendous high school QB with impressive numbers, but what Darian will be bigger and stronger and that helps him. Darian was measured at 6'0" 185 at the Army Combine with no shoes on. His 40 was 4.6, shuttle was 4.2, and vertical was 36". He just has more room to grow than Price did, both in height/weight and strength. I think alot of times kids like Darian get recruited on potential because his frame is good, his numbers are good, and his arm strength is extremely impressive. You may be right about DII, that is if he wants to only play QB. He will have to get in the right system to be successful, unless he hits a growth spurt. Also, what happened to him in the AC game was not choking, it was cramps. I agree he has to get more patient in the pocket and I think we will see more of that in '09. He is being recruited as a dual-threat QB or an athlete. If not QB he could play safety at a DI school. He could probably be an all-state DB if the coaches wold let him play defense. Once he concentrates on only football, his strenth and quickness will only improve. I think Hazelhurst will slip on someone's radar screen, the kid is looking extremely strong and is up to around 210 lbs. He may be more of a defensive recruit at LB or SS after the season plays out. 5'10" 210 and growing with a 4.6 forty, does sets of 5 on the power clean with 225, pretty impressive for a high school kid. Opposing defenses are going to have a have a hard time defending the Dragons this year . . . just wait. They will have some surprises at TE, WR, FB also so who do you stop? They have four quality RB's and the offensive line should be bigger and stronger than last year. Also, they should be stronger defensively this year, despite the fact that everyone's focus is on the offensive side because of the weapons they have. They have lofty expectations within that locker room and are working hard to be able to meet those goals. Clinton should be extremely balanced and they are getting strong with Coach Stone leading the workouts. I am not going to make any predictions, but a healthy Clinton team could be known around the state this year as a potential contender. It has been 17 long years since we have been able to say that. Alot of things can happen, but with a little luck Clinton may be able to compete for home field in the playoffs with a district championship. I know no one will overlook the Dragons this year. I agree that Wison has a bright future if he can play a full year the way he played against Clinton last year. I think AC has a few more players to watch for in Blakely, Hicks, and Pack. This should be a great year for football in Anderson County . . . both the Dragons and the Mavs have some players to watch out for which makes for an exciting week 10, if everything has not played out by then. Good luck to both teams and all of the young men and coaches involved. I look forward to watching my son on Senior Night against the Mavs in the newly refurbished Town of Clinton Stadium. They will have the pregame rock band, a packed house, and alot of talent to watch from both sides of the Clinch.
  14. Darian Stone QB from Clinton is the real deal. He can throw 70 yards, runs a 4.6 or less, and was like 1900 passing and 950 rushing as a junior. Weston Hazelhurst is also legit. He had 700+ yards and 10 TD's to go with 47 before falling to an injury in the 2nd quarter of the 4th game. Another words, as a junior, he averaged 200 yards and 15 tackles when he played. He is strong and has a great build and is underrated as he closes on the football on D as well as anyone I have ever seen. Darian is at the US Army Combine for the holidays and I expect him to be impressive. These two are the prime reasons everyone expects big things from Clinton this year. If they stay healthy Clinton will be practicing on Thanksgiving. I am biased because my son is a member of the senior class that has district championship potential, maybe more! Remember those names as well as a few others that could be All-State potential in '09. Also to promote the other side of the county Anderson County has a stud receiver in Josh Wilson. He runs a 4.5 is like 6'3" and has great hands. Those three prospects are a rare find in Anderson County. Good luck to both teams, except for week 10 . . . sorry Mavs, but I got to root for the dragons.
  15. What we need to be worried about is how to help our high school, not putting down the kids that should be feeding into our program. The biggest difference is that the middle school only won four games this year and that is considered a down year for them. I did see in the paper that they beat the team that won the championship, then got hit with injuries. The kids still know how and expect to win. It is that kind of talk that will keep them from coming to Clinton and joining our program. Bullyrock, are you sure you are a fan of Clinton High School? You are already talking bad about the kids that are not even here yet. I am a parent of a child on the high school team and this is why we can not get more players out. I do know that the middle school coach is trying to get them all to go to Clinton, but you obviously don't like that coach anyway, that is evident from earlier posts. Ask some of the kids what they think of him, then you might change your mind. I have been off of here for a while because of negativity and I did not want to get caught up in it and just when we start to turn the corner, someone always tries to bring us down. If all of the kids stay in Clinton and we get some more out, we could be in the playoffs for the next two or three years. That is fact.
