  1. Heard he is just taking a couple of weeks 'personal time' off from wrestling.
  2. luchador and all - 'D i t t o' on the Thanks!!! This tournament is a State-wide effort to raise FUNDS to offset the National team and the coaches' expenses. Each state sanctioned club has a responsiblilty to furnish volunteers to help out. Concessions will go to our gracious host, Father Ryan. Each time I assume responsibility for this tournament and I'm always scared because I know (as do those who know me ) there is no way my cross-eyed dyslexic self can pair a tournament. Ultimately, I am always pleased that folks do step up to help. [Edited by Matmaid on 5-2-03 7:41A]
  3. Thanks guys...need table workers to relieve thru out the day, with luck and enough volunteers doing pairings we'll get started on time at 10:00 am ~ MM [Edited by Matmaid on 5-1-03 9:40P]
  4. RC - I'm calm, just confused...Who'd you say, "threw the first stone"? I thought I was blocking being hit in the head by the one you threw in your earlier post. Notice that my post was a REPLY addressed to you and your friend. Like you, I gave my opinion in response to your adamant negative statements. Say what you will, but the way I see it -- we, the entire Tennessee Wrestling Community (AAU, FCI, USAW) are all in this together, doing what we can and giving what we can to make things better and meet the needs (as sly pointed out) of each individual wrestler. I will not argue about who's the better association. Each has clearly filled a niche and that's what counts. It's really sad that some schools are deprived of stuff that others get furnished by their school districts. I know there are others in the same boat as you. I do commend you and the numerous wrestling coaches who do volunteer their time, energy and money.
  5. DEAR rcpatriot and cywrestle -- "Show me the money"˜ ( and the power ??? )" Who pays for your high school program, your coaches' salary, and the school bus that takes you to places your team needs to be? (I DO! ˜ your parents do and so does every taxpayer in Tennessee.) Yes, it does take money to run any program, even our summer wrestling programs. It takes money for clubs, training, insurance, travel, and hosting events. It takes money to communicate to the community about these programs with newsletters, and websites. For the National governing bodies of these organizations, it takes money to pay administrators and staff. Not too many folks work for FREE now a days. Granted this money is most often generated from membership dues or fees. The question is˜who benefits from the money˜Both TWF and USAW financial records are public...Both are all Volunteer Organizations. (USAW does have staff, as does the OTC) However, revenues generated are all put back into the primary mission of promoting wrestling and providing opportunities for YOUR BENEFIT. In Tennessee many volunteers put their own time and money into the pot for YOUR BENEFIT. "We do it for you !!!" This country has a great system called free enterprise and competition. From the adolescent male prospective, think about this ˜ Where would you be if you wanted a Chevy truck with a certain option but only Ford trucks were available with some other option? In Tennessee we have 4 sanctioning bodies, AAU - USAW - FCI - NHSCA each competing for wrestling participation and memberships˜You are free to choose which one will benefit you ( as an individual ) the most and that boys is the only POWER generated by summer wrestling programs. What would benefit our state as a whole is without question, UNITY ˜but that's another thread. ~MM

  7. Whatdayamean??? "Leave off Leen"...Forget Division II, Don't you know that he just won the Southern Plains Regional Championships...Do you know what GREAT states compete in the Southern Plains? Well, let me tell you, they far out rank the best of our TN/HS Division I. Jordan will be in our history books, mark my words. He also placed 3rd just the week before in the Central Regions, with the likes of the Schlater bothers competing in the same tournament. This kid has more desire to succeed than most teams combined. Jordan I'm proud of you! ~MM

Terry's first match of the season was in Stillwater, OK against National Champions, Oklahoma State...He will bring in the best...that's what he's about. THANK Heavens we do have a Chattanooga Press (Sports writer, Ward Gossett) presence who does focus on the sport and keeps it in the public eye and that of the UTC/AD so maybe the program won't get cut as the men's track and field just did. ~MM [Edited by Matmaid on 4-1-03 10:26A]

  13. Centrally located for convenience of all (Clarksville is excited and would like to host as does Cookville.) Guess they're drawing straws, don't know...Lauderdale is working on those details. Idea is to put as many kids on the same mats on the same day as we can. Hopefully we will have 4 mats (2/folk 2/free) and with the use of staggered starting weights, rotate between both the styles and brackets alternately. UNIQUE Logo is in the works; we would like this to become an annual event. Participation will not be limited to Tennessee; this will be an open tournament. Maybe someone from PA would like to go home as "the STUD".
  14. * June 14th - "TENNESSEE STUD Trials" - a dual-sanctioned, simultaneous, OPEN folkstyle/freestyle event in cooperation with SE/AAU & TWF/USAW. Champions who win both styles will take home the certificate proclaiming the coveted TITLE, plus Medals (3 places) will be awarded in each style. Both AAU and USAW cards accepted. All age groups. Site TBA (Centrally located either in Cookeville or Clarksville)...More Details forthcoming. Tournament Directors: Daryl Lauderdale/AAU and Louise Davis/USAW.
