  1. MacLaxx, Excuse me for speaking for everyone here, but I think we would all like to know just what your problem is with teams (namely MBA) traveling out of state to play games. Two years ago CBHS travelled to Dallas to play some better competition, and came back a much, much better team. You get better by playing the best, or by playing the best you can play. Someone (I'm not sure who) mentioned on this thread that playing out of state gets more exposure for the state of Tennessee in general... they were right. More and more colleges are looking into TN because our teams are starting to travel out of state and select players are going to out of state camps. It's odd how bitter you are about the whole situation. Did you have a bad experience with out of state travel? If so, please share it with us so that the healing process can, hopefully, begin. Perhaps you lost a loved one to an out of state lacrosse tournament. These things happen, but please try to understand that your hurt and anger cannot, and should not, stop other teams from getting better. The best of luck to you, and to all of the teams traveling out of state to play. Win or lose, it's great. Roll Tide.
  2. But I did forget to mention Rutlidge (spelling probably wrong, sorry) from MUS. He played alongside Sail and Hall last year on MUS's tough, tough D. He's tough, himself, and very athletic. Good footwork and blah blah blah. He's good.
  3. What about some mid-state players? I'm sure there will be plenty of kids from East, Middle, and West Tennessee who make the All-State Selection, but not too many mid-state players are fresh in my mind from last year, and there aren't any dominating players like I mentioned from the MBA, Father Ryan, Ravenwood area... None that I can think of, anyway. If you have some other ideas post them. I just named the best players in the state as far as I'm concerned.
  4. (MUS) Barry Hillyer is a shoe-in. He could snap his femur in half game one and get Second Team All-State, let's be real. (MUS) Johnny Carson is the same way, but he would probably only get Honorable Mention All-State. Sorry. (MUS) Kimbrough Taylor should get something. He's an athlete and has been seeing significant playing time at a high level of lacrosse for way too long to not get anything. He's a good player. (CBHS) Justin Bateman will have a great year, I think. The kid is a freak in the cage. He has his bad games, but when he's on he's unstoppable. He'll probably have to change boxers if he sees this though, so let's hope he doesn't frequent the CoachT forums. No but really, he could have started for CBHS last year (at times) over All State Goalie Patrick Quinn... And Bateman was a Sophomore. (McCallie) Whoever that little attack/mid is for McCallie will be All State... Again. Kid's a baller. (McCallie) Kemp will also make the All State team. He was Second Team with me last year, and this kid is just good. He has a cannon and is scary quick. (CBHS) David Popwell had a pretty bad year last year, but he can be a baller if he wants to. Anyone who plays with him can tell you how good is when he's trying.
  5. Absolutely not. No question. What would the advantages be for the teams? They would have less control over schedules, and out of town games/tournaments would have to be cleared by the TSSAA. People say that the TSSAA would help fund the teams, but let's be real, would it make a big difference? I think most people don't play lacrosse because they aren't interested in playing lacrosse, not because they can't afford it. Besides, teams now already do fundraisers to raise they're own money and it's very, very doable. Even TSSAA sanctioned teams do fundraisers... What does that say about the funding? It says that it's not that much. At least, it says that to me. I heard somewhere that head coaches vote every so often on whether or not to become TSSAA sanctioned, because I'm almost positive the offer has been extended to the sport, but they always vote No, because the TSLA does a good job of handling the sport.
  6. I have not seen a full list anywhere either...that's strange. Anywho, from CBHS: William Franklin - 1st Team All-State Attack; All-American Tyler McCaskey - 2nd Team All-State Defense Joe Jennings - 1st Team All-State LSM (I believe 1st Team, it may be 2nd Team, please excuse the possible error) Patrick Quinn - All-State Goalie (Again dropping the ball, I'm not sure what Team he was voted onto) Patrick Cassidy - 2nd Team All-State Midfield I think that's it from CBHS. Not the best compilation, but hey, better than nothing. Sorry for any errors, gentlemen.
  7. I just don't understand why Father Ryan seems to talk trash and down on other teams when, let's face it, they really aren't that good. I mean when you get demoted (yes, demoted) to DII, it's not really the opportune time to be bragging and/or trash talking. An 8-2 record from a team that only a year ago was DI? Not bad, but by no means impressive...especially from a team who, prior to the season's start, said that they would basically dominate. I mean, 19-9 vs. Franklin? 3-9 vs. Brentwood? Really? Get serious, there's just not much there to brag about.
  8. Alright let's ease it up bro. Bible is a great face off guy, I don't think anyone can deny that. However, Nolan is one of the top face off recruits in the nation for the class of 2008, and was heavily recruited by Penn State, Bucknell, Brown, and Villanova (he eventually decided on 'Nova). Now, does that make Nolan better than Bible? No. But I do think you should take all of that into consideration. Some of you guys are saying Bible dominated Nolan in the quarterfinals, and that THAT proves that he is better...well what about the game before that? Nolan handily outplayed Bible, and won the majority of the faces in the game in Chat. They're both great, and having either one of them on your team would be incredible.

    All State

Actually, at the McCallie/CBHS game, CBHS's face-off man (Nolan Vihlen) came out on top of McCallie's face-off man (Will Bible) winning 9 of the 15 faces (9-15). The reason that it seemed Vihlen didn't do as well is because after winning the faces, we would make stupid mistakes and wind up turning the ball over (or McCallie would just play great D, whichever). I will admit, Bible is a great face-off man, and definatly deserving of an all-state selection, but if you look at the stats (as I think someone has already pointed out) it's clear that Vihlen should be 1st team. Vihlen - #1 in the state for face-off wins (230) Not on the top 10 list for losses (39) Bible - #3 in the state for face-off wins (143) #6 in the state for losses (65)
  10. Skeeter07 "Okay, one mans opinion (take into account that this is a cbhs opinion and it really doesnt matter because they have really bad temper problems) but any other thoughts?" What is that supposed to mean? Is CBHS's opinion insignificant because you think that they have "really bad temper problems"? Grow up. Oh, and I almost forgot, McCallie will win the game by at least 4. And yes, it appears that the east, as of yet, is much stronger than the west.

    Week 5 Scores

    CBHS - 18 Islip - 8

    The D-Poles

I'm going to have to agree with lax14 on that one, while I will admit that I have yet to see many other defensive units (aside from MUS and Houston), it appears that CBHS's defensive team has a great mix of quickness, knowledge, and muscle (#5 lays some pretty heavy checks). It'll be interesting to see how they match up against some of the more talented attack units this season.
  13. I'm going with CBHS in a 10-8 win over MUS. Good luck to all. Oh and Ravenwood over Lausanne/Cordova, I don't know enough about each team to give a score prediction.

    Sippin?

Guys, Guys, Guys...I'm not trashing anybody. Sorry it came off like that...really im not trying to put down Ravenwood, i have never seen them play so im sorry if I said anything insulting about them. All I'm saying is that you shouldnt come in here complaining about how Ravenwood doesnt get any respect, then go and put down another school that (as far as i know...and i might not be right) you have not seen play. From what you have said, it sounds like Ravenwood may be moving up in the next few years, it'll be cool to see them compete at a new level (a level that, from you have said, they should do pretty well in). Oh and thanks to "dkslakdfj" for making a HUGE generalization about any CBHS player who posts on this web page. Before you say that why dont you take some time to see which players post on this web page...youll find that most of them are starters.

    Sippin?

To Brentwood29: You're right, DI players have no right to rag on DII scools. You're totally right. But dude don't come in here doing the same thing to CBHS. These guys are for real...like it or not. Why hasnt anyone told them to go away you ask?? Its probably because, like you said, we all have a right to be here. So you think Ravenwood has a betetr shot at winning than CBHS? Okay, heres the deal. Its way way cool that yo have beaten 5 DI schools...but think about the quality of the wins man. Nothing special. Great, maybe ravenwood has a legit team that could do alright at the DI level, but trust me, if it came down to CBHS and ravenwood, the Brothers would come away with a decisive win. Good luck with the rest of your season, good talkin to you.
