  1. Will Dykes' punt return occur after a called fair catch?
  2. Brentwood got on the board first with a 34-yard AJ Krow to Austin Stanley connection for Stanley's first career TD. Indy tacked on a FG before half and the score was 7-3 Brentwood at halftime. Independence came out after halftime and did to Brentwood just about what they did to Ravenwood last week, scoring twice in the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half, courtesy of an AJ Krow interception and a Brentwood fumble. Brentwood had a drive that showed promise in the 4th quarter, twice having the ball on the 5, losing that position first with a holding penalty, regaining it, and then a bad snap on 3rd and Goal forced the Bruins to kick a field goal, which was missed. Final score 17-7 Independence. Independence takes the Region 6-5A championship and #1 seed in the playoffs.
  3. As was said before, Brentwood needs a Dickson Co. loss to either Franklin this week or Ravenwood next week, which are both very possible, as well as a win over Northeast next week. If Dickson loses both of their last two, then they are out of the playoffs completely, with 3 region losses. Should be a low-scoring game...17-14 Brentwood
  4. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pkj...bJyHw&hl=en For all playoff scenarios in the best region in the state of Tennessee, Region 6-5A, look no further than right here. All possible scenarios are covered here, complete with seeding possibilites, and the probability of each team obtaining any given seed (1-5). All 5 serious playoff contenders in 6-5A are here, Brentwood, Dickson County, Franklin, Independence, and Ravenwood. Enjoy!
  5. I can assure you that this problem will be addressed this week in practice. The Bruins' starting center Derek Faulkner was out this week with a bone bruise in his foot, so Ian Smith moved over from guard to fill in at center. So that was not our normal center...not sure if Smith will have to fill that role again this week, we shall see. Meanwhile, Brentwood has never lost to Centennial at any level of football, freshman, JV, or varsity. The seniors on Brentwood's team know this and are determined to keep this streak alive. Brentwood 31 Centennial 14
  6. Regarding the fair catch in the first quarter, the ref did see it on video at halftime courtesy of Brentwood High's excellent TV production program. Ronnie Seigenthaler was absolutely furious (as was the rest of the Bruin Nation) and it just so happens that he coached one of those refs in basketball back in the day. Needless to say, Seig let him hear it. At least one official took a look at the video and realized the error of his ways and confirmed that a fair catch was called. Obviously, it was too late to change the call. As was said before, that missed fair catch call was the worst in the history of high school football, maybe football in general. A few closing thoughts from this game: -Greatest game I have ever seen in my 4 years of high school -Quite satisfying to have beaten Franklin 3 out of the last 4 years (04, 05, 07) -First time that Brentwood has ever beaten both Franklin and Ravenwood in the regular season -Once again, that missed call was the first in the history of football. -More to come later.
  7. At the midway point this season, the region championships and the three other playoff spots are still wide open. Dickson County is in the lead with a region record of 2-0. Every other team in the region is 1-1, with the exception of Clarksville Northeast, which is 0-2. With that said, the average fans at Brentwood, Franklin, and Ravenwood (all in playoffs each of the last 3 years) don't have as much to worry about as they think. On the surface, Brentwood and Ravenwood are both 1-4, something neither school has seen in awhile, especially Brentwood. Franklin is 2-2, but they also have that tie to Hillsboro, meaning they will finish with 9 regular season games instead of 10, which might come back to hurt them later in tiebreaker situations for playoff seeding. Every team in the region has completed their non-region schedule, which means every game from here on out will have a big impact. Next week's region games (and my predictions) include: Franklin @ Brentwood -- Brentwood in an upset Ravenwood @ Columbia -- Ravenwood, but it will be close Dickson County @ Centennial -- Dickson County, not even close Clarksville Northeast @ Independence -- Independence, same as above
  8. It is a final...Siegel 9, Brentwood 7 on a game winning 43 yard field goal by Siegel with 10.7 seconds left. Brentwood falls to 1-4, 1-1 in 6-5A, losing all 3 non-region games to Region 4 teams Smyrna, Blackman, and Siegel. Next up, the Bruins host Franklin in the granddaddy of 'em all in Williamson County...7:30 P.M. October 5 at James C. Parker Stadium in Brentwood.
  9. I just found out today that this week is Siegel's homecoming. The Bruins should have no problem taking care of business in this one. Brentwood 21 Siegel 3
  10. Don't believe so, but Whittemore and Everson were the only ones I mentioned who played QB in college. Henshaw moved to tight end, Welch started out at TE but moved to RT, and McCurdy is now a safety for Murray State.
  11. Great game tonight by both teams, especially on the defensive side. I don't believe anyone expected Brentwood to come out like they did with Krow lining up at QB. Brentwood comes out on top by a score of 7-6 after Ravenwood led at halftime with two Lopez field goals 6-0. Neither team lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd quarter, but with three minutes left it was an AJ Krow to Chase Lyle connection with an Andrew Coley PAT to put Brentwood up 7-6 and keep the Wood at "THE" Brentwood High School. And now, a message to all Bruins and Raptors, especially current and future students of both schools. This week as you may know there were acts of vandalism committed by each school on the other school's property. It started with some Ravenwood students spray-painting the paw prints on Murray Lane black and red, and it continued with Brentwood students spray-painting the black tarp-like material on the fence surrounding Ravenwood's field, as well as a message on the parking lot (something to the effect of "Brentwood Owns"). As a senior at BHS, I don't condone the acts that my fellow students have done. My message to students at both schools is to not let this happen again. All of you live in one of the nicest communities in America, and all of you were raised better than that. Keep this rivalry pure and untarnished by juvenile acts such as these. Please, for the sake and betterment of this great rivalry, let's support our respective teams in positive ways, and not in destructive ways.
  12. Fancher is 15, Evans is 5. For those wanting a little history on this rivalry, the Bruins and Raptors have met 6 times (twice in playoffs) since the opening of Ravenwood in 2002. The series is tied 3-3, with the Bruins winning in 2003, 2004 playoffs, and 2006. The Raptors have won in the 2004 regular season and twice in 2005. There was no varsity game between the schools in 2002. The home team has won all 6 meetings.
  13. It will be interesting to see how the playing time is divided tonight at QB for the Bruins between senior Drew Fancher and sophomore Jordan Evans. Last week at Blackman, Drew started and played the first drive, threw a pick, and did not play the rest of the game. Fancher has started all 3 games for the Bruins, but Evans has gotten increasingly more time in all 3. Don't be surprised to see Evans starting tonight for the Bruins. The coaches like Fancher because of his outstanding leadership ability, but when it comes down to who has the better arm and who can make big things happen, it is Evans hands-down. You can take it to the bank that Evans will get a college football scholarship, joining the likes of Bill Whittemore ('00 Kansas), Matt Henshaw ('01 FSU), Austen Everson ('03, Ohio U), Thomas Welch ('05 Vanderbilt), and McCurdy ('06 Naval Academy). Brentwood 14 Ravenwood 10
