  1. Does the Elizabethton coach recruit? Sure he does. So do a lot of other coaches. Does it make it right? No. But it goes on. What is sad to me is the TSSAA only comes down on some one when they feel like it. What made them do something now? Who knows. This could have been done many times before, not only to the Elizabethton coach but to a lot of other area coaches. I've known situations where one school has been penalized for doing something when another school did the same thing in the same place and nothing was done. The only consist thing about the TSSAA is their inconsistency.
  2. Didn't say anything about asking someone not to score. Said the same thing could have been accomplished by other means. Run 15 seconds off then clock then run your set, have a post kid touch the ball before you go into offense. Just many things you can work on to get better besides just shooting and scoring. LIke it's been said, these kids don't get that much of an opportunity to play so why not use it to do some teaching instead of just some playing. These areas are hard to learn in practice so why not take this opportunity to get better. Again, don't learn much just being able to score whenever and however you want. That will not happen against the better teams. I do agree we have a softer society and by no means am I saying you should "let up" on anyone, just do a better of job of using an opportunity to learn. This would accomplish benefits for both teams. As a former high school coach you should understand this.
  3. Says the team that won by 90 points. Been on both ends, it gets to a point where it doesn't do anybody any good. It's like going out back and playing your 7 year old kid brother, you can score and do anything you want anytime you want. So what does that prove. How does that make you any better. You can go 50% and still score and take the ball anytime you want. Yes, I agree you want you younger kids to play hard and they deserve to play but there are other areas to work on: clock management, execution of plays, contain defense (when you face an opponent that is as quick as you are), etc. With a running clock you make the score as bad as you want. I can't see any motivation for the team that got beat. Would a 70 point loss, 50 point loss been motivation to them? So you think the coach can go in after a game and say, "hey if you all work harder you can beat them next year, we can get 90 points better". Would you believe that? The only thing that happens is the ill feelings that have started between these young people. Where is the sportsmanship? I've heard, "we could have beaten them by 150", sure and you could have beaten them by 40. Would that have made it less of a win? Sometimes you are just better than your opponent. They know it, you know it and everybody else knows it. Does it take this type of win to prove it? In my opinion I don't think so.
  4. Does anyone know if Coach Dugger got turned in the other night from the Hampton game? Will he have to sit out the two games at Science Hill this weekend?
  5. Is she looking to play today or tomorrow? Has she been cleared?
  6. Don't see a lot of change for the top or the bottom throughout the season. Hampton, Unicoi and Cloudland could change their ranking by the week. Elizabethton is a notch above everyone else with Happy Valley being a little better than the rest. Unaka should remain at the bottom with Johnson County being a little better than them. The lower teams should improve throughout the year but can't see anyone challenging Elizabethton for the top spot. Someone might beat Happy Valley if they are having an off night shooting. Haven't seen Unicoi play this year but they don't seem to have the same level of play since Coach Fisher retired. Coachh and King (or anyone), to put you in the hot seat how about ranking the coaches. Not to put any coach down (know it takes a special kind of person to coach today) but just interested to see how you all view the coaches. I think we have a very good group of coaches in this area. Maybe points for x's and o's, motivation, public relations and rapport with players. How about it?
  7. Going to be a very long season for a lot of area teams this year King. Take Elizabethton out of the equation and the rest of the teams are average at best. Happy Valley probably being the better of the bunch. Don't see any of the Greene County teams being challenged in single A or Elizabethton being challenged in AA. Johnson County may get the opportunity to be ranked the highest its been in many years. The Bowers girl not playing for Hampton this year really sets them back some and not sure they can recover from that, so they'll have to play with youth like Cloudland and Unaka. Probably going to see a lot of ugly basketball the first couple of months but with time maybe the youth will mature enough to be competitive with teams outside the conference.
  8. Most teams in the tri-county have already begin to think about the next season. Where do they go from here? What does each team need to do to be better? Would like to hear what you think each team needs to do for next year to have a chance to win the conference or make it down the road. Elizabethton seems talent wise to make another run, Other teams will be hurt by graduation. Coaching changes? What will Hampton do? A lot of questions for the up coming spring and summer months. What would you do?
  9. Can't put all the blame on the official. Maybe he was a little quick to give her two techs but one she should have had no reply on the first foul and two surely shouldn't have done anything after the technical. Also probably shouldn't have even been in the game at that point. Understand wanting to give her some playing time but that happens in the third quarter or maybe even early in the fourth but not very late in the game. Normally if something is going to happen, that's when it occurs. So don't keep blaming the official and share the responsibility with her, her coach and yes even some to the official.
  10. ET must agree with you to give up that many points will get you beat most nights. Scoring as many points as they did (eliz) would not indicate a poor offensive outing. If you are playing to out score someone to beat them and not doing much to slow them down then that will catch up with you on many a night.
  11. I do remember the Campbell girl was player of the year in the conference for two years straight. Don't think she was as big as the Rhodes girl but she could still play. Think you all do have a good chance to win some games in the post season but you must have some luck also. The best team doesn't always win. Good luck to you and it would be nice to add another ball to this area. If I remember Jarret was a little more athletic than Wilson. Memories just pop into my head at different times. Sorry.
  12. King, I'm a little older (grew up in early 90's), I remember a very good Cloudland team that won over 30 games. I can't remember all their players but believe the Campbell and Jarrett girls were their main players. They had another quick little guard and if I remember were pretty deep. They were the best in the area at that time, beat all the county schools (and Elizabethton) by 20+. Seems like they got upset in the sub-state. Think they match up pretty well with the team of today. Of course memory always has a way of playing tricks but know they were pretty good against very good competition. I did watch the Hanson team play and yes they were fun to watch also. Think they defended better in full court as this team defends better in the half court.Depth I don't remember. This years' team has some depth but there is a drop off when they sub. Don't think it shows up against show of the teams because of the score. Would like to debate sometime on how you think the teams of today (all teams) compare with teams of years past.
  13. Do agree with you King, Cloudland has a very good team and has a very good chance of making some big noise down the road but I do remember the other Cloudland team that won 30+ games and their schedule could match this one. Cosby and Hancock Co (back when they could play) both were in the conference and theres no tougher place to play than playing them at their home floor. They also played Hv, Unicoi, SH, Hampton (AA), the North Carolina teams plus others. So I wouldn't say this years team had a much tougher schedule. The conference back then was much tougher than it is today. Just getting out of the District tournament was a major task.
  14. Bounce, you seem to have taken the question in a personal manner. I was just asking if it had gone the other way would they be more talk. Which as you can see by the replies a lot seem to think so. The reply about Coach Tolley was in jest. I'm sure Coach Tolley didn't tell her not to come as what coach would. I do disagree with the statement that Elizabethton was glad to get rid of her. If she was trouble there then she will be trouble at Hampton. Which I don't think she was or will be.
