  1. Actually, Clay Co. got really lucky. They have ACT tomorrow, so practice I think had tobe moved to 1. Good Luck ( I can feel another Monterey practice, 1:45 minutes of running.)
  2. Way to back up one dumb comment by making another one. Clay played worse than I have ever seen, they played down to a bad k-8 team tonight. They were beat in every way, and Dawg05 admitted that, and then you get on here and say some dumb crap like that. When you say Clay hyped themselves up, do you mean the players or the fans? Big question there, huh? I have not seen many Celina players on here talking themselves up, you know why, because they have more class than that, and more class than you, so it seems. Yeah, they played beyond terrible tonight, and then one of their diehard fans gets on here and admits it, and you take shots, and like he said if you were not at the game, you could not know how bad they played. Can I get some DEFENSE on #3 in the first half, Casey Ferrell did a good job on him second half, did it take Celina a half to figure out this kid can shoot? NO just 4 3 pointers!! I also would have like too have seen some defense on #20-app. 20 pts. Come on guys, I have seen you play alot of games, and that is DEFINITELY by far the worst. Pick your heads up and head to Gordonsville and kick some butt, you have to prove a point now. Saylor Walden is not scoring many points this year, but EVERYONE sees how much Celina missed him tonight. They missed his Defense, they missed his shooting, when he's opened, they missed EVERY aspect of his game, and could have definitely used him, as his presence was definitely missed. Friendship Christian, I got to say you played much better tonight than I thought you would, I was planning on leaving at halftime with Clay ahead by alot, but you showed up to play ball, and took this game by far. Congratulations. Now that Clay has lost a game, and that undefeated deal is gone, now they can show how to pick it up and play ball. Good Luck to Clay in the upcoming game, and FCS too because they will need it the next time they play Clay.
  3. That was a good post jtidwell. I think this was their best game yet, as far as start to finish. When Livingston Academy starts finishing games like they start them, they will be extremely tough to beat, and and this might not happen until Cates gets back, as he might be able to calm them down a little, especially the young ones.Congratulations to the LA Wildcat football team STATE CHAMPS.
  4. After three 62-38 Livingston Academy. I think Brandon Matthews has 12 Chase Dunn has 16 Monday I think has 16, not sure on that one, but its after 3.
  5. First, the gym floor looks great. Now to the game, Brandon Matthews shot extremely well in this game. Chase Dunn also played well and was the second highest scorer to Matthews. Livingston is playing very well right now, they did last night at Macon Co. and the did Thursday night at Clay Co., only one thing they really have to work on. FINISH the game! Their HUGE problem is they have to finish the game, if they finish the games like they start them then they win that game @ Clay by about 15-20, although Clay played better the second half. They also would have won the game last night at Macon county by a minimum of thirty points. All they got to do is Finish, that is the part of their game that needs critiquing, and if they do that, district 7A is in BIG trouble. LA will go a very long ways once they start doing these things, they have lead every game I've watched this year pretty bad, and would have won all three very significantly had they just finished. Anyways Congratulations to the LA CATS and Good Luck, and maybe I'll get to watch @LA against Cookeville.
  6. kick4pat, I really don't remember saying that Chase was going to start over Wilson this year, when did I say that? Another thing, yeah he can play D and he can handle the ball, but as far as him driving and scoring, he drives but rarely does he score. All I am saying is that he's not that great of a shooter, and Dunn has been one of the top two scorers in every game this season so far. Do I think Wilson is a decent/good basketball player? Sure, but he is NOT by any means of the word GREAT. He is just not as good of a basketball player as everyone in LA country lets on. Let's put it this way, if he wasn't an All-Star at football, and he wasn't half as popular for that reason( Football), then the whole town would not be in love with him because quite frankly he does not mean the world to them in basketball like he does football. That's all I am saying, and I still don't remember saying that Chase was going to start. Oh well, and Congrats to LA on the win last night against Macon Co.
  7. Well said Dawg05, I think that is like that old saying Clean your own doorstep before you clean mine. That applies in this case.
  8. Pickett County wins this one by about 15. T.C. should have a big night, as long as he don't get in foul trouble. Jacob Wright could have a field day shooting the three ball. Good Luck to PC.
  9. Wow, That's a mighty big comment for someone from H.S. to make. How long has it been before you guys made it to the regional tournament, much less the region finals. I can't remember that far back I don't guess. Anyways, to the LA at CLAY game. This game was awesome to see, and as far as Celina playing their worst half of the year, DUH, they played a decent team. It's not real hard to play good halves all year when you've played teams like Red Boiling, Gordonsville, and Van Buren (although one could make a good argument that the VB game could have had the worst half in it, it would be close). LA played good the first half, Clay got really rattled, and they turned the ball over alot. LA got rattled in the second half, and Walden had a HUGE shot to turn momentum when he got fouled on that three. That was a good shot, but as far as getting a foul, Saylor shot the ball and left his leg out, which he does alot, and LA's player tripped over it, awesome shot and very unfortunate for LA. Chase Dunn is playing really well right now, even though neither him, nor Matthews shoot the ball probably as much as they need to. Celina came out in the second half and played awesome, and LA didn't. That is how they lost the 17 pt. lead, it really wasn't anything Celina did differently, besides getting the ball inside and letting Rich score with it. LA just did not play ball second half, and someone could actually say they thought they had the game won at the half and probably make a good argument. One MAJOR thing Clay needs to do is stop trying to shoot the ball so much, give it to Rich, the boy will score IF he gets the ball and that's why he had 20 pts. last night. Congratulations to Clay Co. on the win, and Good Luck tonight against Monterey (like they are going to need it). Also, good luck to LA tonight against Macon Co., should be a good one. Also, congrats to Dustin on his 20 and Chase with his 13, leading their respected teams.
  10. Trust me. I know where Celina played at last year. Yeah Clay played in Livingston tourney. Why not play them during the regular season, why not Upperman, why go to Nashville and Lebanon to play teams that you wil stomp in the ground when there is alot better talent right here on the home front. I mean you said it yourself it makes you better, and this makes it look like the W/L column means more than the quality of opponent. Clay definitely has a ton of talent this year, but they can always be better, amd that would definitely come by playing better teams. Yes, Coach Sims does still make the schedule, and thank God LA is on it this year. He is alot of the reason they don't play a much tougher schedule, because the girls wouldn't have much of a chance (just like tomorrow night). Anyways, Good LUck to both teams, LA by 5.
  11. LOL. Good post Dawg05!!! Clay dominated this game in almost every aspect. The only thing that maybe could have went better was the Jones kid. He scored alot, it seemed almost at will. Besides that Clay Co. played some purty good defense tonight, another thing that might have contributed to that was that it was RBS, theyre not that good, especially since they have one returning starter, maybe 2( not sure if Jones started), but I would be very dissappointed if I had to say Dexter White was my only returning starter. Anyways good luck to clay co. this thursday night against LA>>>.
  12. First thing, I don't ever remember saying that Wilson would be worried about who done what, etc. I simply said that Cates is not as good of a basketball player as everyone (Esp. from Livingston) thinks he is. The kid can play football, and he's an overall good athlete, but he's not all that good at basketball. I also think Chase Dunn brings more to the table then just points, which he has been leader at in every game with the exception of last night @ Cookeville where he was one pt. short with 15. He also has many good attributes that make a leader, and he's only a freshman. Do I think he can be a leader this year?NO, but in the future definitely. I mean he was definitely a leader at Allons leading them to I think it was 4 state titles. Purty sure on that, but not definite. This game would be very surprising to me if either team wins by double digits, unless it's free throws at the end of the game. I think both teams have the capability of winning this one, but I am not sure that Clay will be as good out of the starting gates, considering the teams they are playing as opposed to the teams LA have been playing. I think Coach Melton may be trying to get them ready for tournaments by playing these much tougher teams. Clay should probably try doing that, I mean I think it's funny that in the past few years, Celina has drove so far to play teams like Friendship Christian, among others, but have never played Upperman, Livingston Academy, Cookeville, and up into this year would only play Jackson County once a year. These teams would have been much better competition and much closer to home, but then again, they may have hurt the win/loss records. They would have been very beneficial though, perhaps when you are traveling to play against Temple. I think LA is on the right track, and definitely look forward to seeing the game Thursday night at Celina. Good Luck to both teams, LA pulls out the W by 5.
  13. None of the teams LA has played so far has been worried about Chase Dunn. He seemed to have done fine against them, and if Clay doesn't worry about him any, then he may have another career night against them. Then again, he may be terrible against Clay, i mean with that awesome defense like LA hasn't seen this year. (Siegel's defense was terrible i'm sure, i mean it usually is on a very high rated AAA school.) But, to this "same" La team they had last year, um...what about Matt Reeder, Brad West, Wesley Pucket, I remember all of them starting, but I don't remember seeing them out there against Pickett County the other night. Oh, that's right they graduated, so if half the team graduated how do they have the "same" team. I'm sure Clay will have the "same" team next year after Casey, Dustin, Jon, Tyler, Saylor, Bobby, Sean, etc graduate. They'll look exactly the same, huh. Good luck to both teams at Celina Thurs.
  14. Chase Dunn is short and harmless right. I mean that's what all the other teams have thought I'm sure and oh yeah I almost forgot. He's a FRESHMAN. But, then again there is this possibly eye opening revolution, he's been the leading scorer in all of LA's games so far this season, and I hope you're not saying that Clay plays better Defense than Siegel, which may be possible *I haven't seen Siegel play* but they are rated really good, and he dunn awesome against them. Anyways, good luck to both teams in this game, as it will be a barn burner.
  15. I have no problems with Wilson Cates. I like him, I like his father, they are both good people. The only problem is that alot of people think he ia alot better than he actually is. I have watched him plenty, and he is not one of the best point gaurds in the state, he can lead, that's his job, but he is no where near the basketball player that the people in Livingston give him credit for. I am not saying that it is Cates fault that Chase Dunn will be better, don't know where you got that from. All I am saying is that Wilson hasn't put up the numbers in any year of basketball playing in his life that Dunn is putting up now, as a freshman. There should not be a question as to whether or not Dunn will live up to it, if he has the drive, and I know he does, the question is when will he live up to it. Like I said Wilson can play D, and handle the ball decently, but the difference between Wilson and Chase is that Chase is going to put up alot of points. I look forward to the game at Celina Thursday night, and good luck to both teams, but still say LA by 5 possibly more, depending on how well they gaurd Clays gaurds.
  16. First of all, LOL I have seen wilson play. Just to clear that up LOL. He is not that great at basketball. He is AWESOME at football, but basketball I'd say the city of Livingston is the one jumping the gun and most everyone in LA country thinks he's God. Sorry to dissappoint but he's not. Who's jumping the gun with Chase Dunn, he is a good player, and in a couple of years will be better at basketball than Cates has ever thought about being. Wilson may be a natural leader and all that stuff, but he can't score points, he can play D and he's a fair ball handler, but he will never score. But, like I said everyone from Livingston is extremely biased and thinks he's God at whatever he does. Anyways LA wins in a close one by 5 Thursday night IN Celina. Good Luck to both teams.
  17. First, when Cates and Livingston come back, it's not going to help LA much, if at all. Wilson Cates is a FOOTBALL player, not a basketball player. He can play defense, but as far as offense goes????Chase Dunn might be stopped by Saylor, but there's still a problem, who is going to stop the height LA has, and once again there are some poeple posting about stuff they don't know about AS USUAL. LA has 3 major feeder schools, and in a couple of years, that'll be down to two RICKMAN and ALLONS. Livingston has not got much at LMS and nothing for a while at Hilham, and Montereys players come from Wilson, in case you haven't noticed with the Key brothers, and David Walker. So, before you post, know what you are talking about, and LA can pull this one out by 3-8 pts no more, but clay could also pull it out. I don't see it though, I think LA by 5.
  18. The refs were terrible in this game, and even though the reffing went slightly towards LA (even though they had more to foul out and more Ts), this game was dominated by them in all aspects. They played Defense better and with more intensity, they rebounded better (in large part when TC Capps was off the floor, which was most of the game due to foul trouble), the shot better, penetrated better, and all together out played PC. Chase Dunn will be known by about all the teams they play this year, I mean he comes off the bench and has been the leading scorer in all but one, or all their games so far. THat won't be a name to be forgotten anytime soon. It should be fun to watch him develop over the next few years. Good LUCK Cats!
  19. Okay, you may be right that alot of coaches won't accept losing, but have to deal with or whatever, but Livingston Academy is not one of them. If you were at the game then you seen how bad it was. LA is LOADED with talent especially in that freshman class, and last years team is NO WHERE near as good as this LA team is. LA dominated this game in every way. The refs were absolutely terrible both ways in this game, as players got Techs for asking their coach what they did wrong, or just kind of standing there, and it was both ways like that. I see that your pregame prediction was off by what 30 pts. You're right, you must definitely know more about what you're talking about then I do, huh? LOL. In this case, I would say the final score tells all.
  20. Yeah, Chase Dunn lead Livingston Academy in scoring again last night at Pickett County. He came off the bench and didn't play that much due to fouling out in the third quarter. the refs were awful with 4 techs and 1 int. getting called in 3-4 plays. Another freshmen whom played big last night at PC was Devon Ramsey. He came off the bench and gave them 6-8 pts. Him and Chase Dunn will be fun to watch in the future. Good Luck to the Cats.
  21. I don't think anyone in Clay Co. is happy with the performance they put out. They came out in the first quarter extremely rusty and Van Buren came out ON FIRE. They scored somewhere between 18-20 in the first. Celina won't be able to give that lead to alot of teams and still win, and thanks to tyler kerr who shot extremely well in the first half, the lead wasn't as big as it should've been. Celina will improve alot over the course of the season, and probably the only way VB can keep it close next time is if they shoot really good, and keep #33 out of foul trouble, and if Clay comes out REALLY slow again. Let's hope they come out better against a few teams in the future or Celina too will have L's on their schedule. If they come out that way on LA, Pickett, and maybe even Jackson Co, all of whom seem to have reasons to go after Clay (because of players that once played there, or, in PC case, a bitter RIVALRY). This should be a very interesting season to say the least, but they will pull thru once they get their heads on right. Good Luck to the Bulldogs.
  22. There's this really nice thing about sports. The PAST doesn't mean anything now. It's just that the PAST. LA has a much better team this year than they have had in a while. The new coach is also going to make a big difference because he won't accept losing. I'd say they contain Jacob Wright (15-20 pts), and they will win the game, but they also have to keep Logan from putting up 15-20 again. LA should win this game, even though PC has a very good team, and this game will be an awesome game to watch, and will probably come down to the wire. LA 65 PC 62! Good Luck to both CATS in this game.
  23. First of all, I don't hardly think it is time to start talking about post season or as a previous post put it State tournament bound team." Clay definitely has the talent to be a state tournament team, but they are no where near where they need to be. Van Buren nor Clay County played good tonight. Clay showed a few signs of life, but they have to REBOUND the basketball, especially if they want to keep it close with bigger teams. The rebounding in the game was terrible, as was the defense in the first quarter especially. Giving up 19-20 points in the first quarter, that's digging a hole. If not for Tyler Kerr's huge 3's at the end of the first, they may have not even been close going into the break. After that Kerr calmed down a little bit, and so did his scoring. Leading scorers were Jon Godwin with 17, Tyler Kerr with 13, and Casey Ferrell with 11. A key, KEY part of this game was getting #33 from Van Buren in foul trouble early. That kid can bomb the three ball. He is quite the shooter, and especially in the first quarter when he got to play alot, CLAY could not stop hi. It almost seemed like he scored at will there for a while, and Celina couldn't find him, especially early. I think Van Buren could have played better, but not much better. As for Celina, not AS impressed with them as most people are this early. They will Definitely come around, and this game in now way resembled the kind of season they are going to have. Celina will improve alot when someone steps up and leads the team, and when they decide that they cannot outscore every team on their schedule this year, although they can alot of them. They have to realize the CAN be beat, and they are going to have to play alot better Defense then they did, in the first quarter especially. They also have to REBOUND the ball, Van Buren got countless oppurtunities for putbacks. Actually, there were several times Van Buren had 2,3, and even 4 chances to put the ball in the basket. You give many teams oppurtunities like that and they are going to be in for a big surprise. Celina should start rebounding the ball better soon, and playing better defense, and basketball all together for that matter, and when they do GOOD LUCK to about anyone who plays them. Everyone knows how good they can be, it's just a matter of time until someone steps up, leads the team, and they start dominating teams like they should. Anyways, Good LUck to Clay County tomorrow night against Gordonsville.
  24. LA will be alot better than anyone expected this year. Mainly because Coach Melton will not accept defeat. They will be playing ball like no one has seen from LA in a long time. They are going to be really, really good in the next several years, as they have talent for a lot of years to come. Anyways, good luck to the Cats and to Coach Melton this season.
  25. Clay County should win this game pretty much hands down. If they come to play ball, and stay out of foul trouble then it will be about a 25 point game. Clay easily wins it. Good Luck Clay County!!!
