  1. Well, I guess I'll chime in after a long absence. I said that the season ended for the Vikings after the 2nd Mt. Juliette game (3rd game of the season) and that the team was imploding. The frustration level has been awful since that game I am a little suprised it took this long. The team captain was suspended from the team a few weeks ago, another player has been suspended for a few weeks. More are on the block. How dare they expect the best players to play! As a Viking fan it pains me to say this, but the problem this night started with our boys. You could see this brawl comming from the second quarter: some kids at Community who have no business playing more than few minutes in a varsity game were starting and getting the court time once again; this time Cascade took it to them in their agressive, physical style and the overmatched kids started pulling jerseys, pushing, hand fouls, anything to look like they could compete. After all, they know that better players are sitting watching them. The refs did call alot of these fouls, but not the ones away from the ball or that did not affect the result. As it turns out, a mistake on their part, but then they did not know the underlying tension of the Viking boys; I think they just wanted to get the debacle over with. It was a sad situation long befor the brawl and it just got a liitle sadder. Shame on the Community Adminstration. Injustice breeds rebellion.
  2. The score may end up closer than last game, but the outcome will never be in doubt: Forrest wins.
  3. I think I had it Forrest, Eagleville, Cascade & VanBuren fighting 3rd, Community, MTCS, Boyd...With an outside chance of the Vikes pulling ahead of VB. IF nothing changes in the union then I have to revise the bottom half..MTSC, Community, Boyd. I still think VB and the Champs will tussle for the 3 spot. By the way Fresh..Cory and Nick are having a year to remeber..congrats.
  4. Ok then, I have said my piece and will shut up about it...yea I know. So eagle, I am not saying we are ready to beat you on a normal night, but your boys were flat until the 4th qtr and on a night like that I think our best 5 could have taken you. It was a good game for all that and the refs really were not that bad, there were some calls not made the other way too and our boys got a little frustrated, no excuse except we have some young boys who didn't handle the rough treatment with the grace they should have..it did not affect the score. So what do I think edmonson does well: (1) He is good at the x's ond o's. (2) He has taught a young team to play a motion offense, I did not think they could, its a tough one to learn. (3) He has the team motivated and focused. (4) He has them playing team ball on both ends. (5) He teaches the position skills, it shows on the court. (6) He seems to know when a player has his A game and lets them roll with it, and he also seems to know when to back it off, that's a delicate touch. (7) The boys seem to like him and are committed to him, it takes a good man to earn that. If he starts and sticks with Stallings, Hull, Haynes, White and Natale; or with Stalling, Hull, White, Pierce and Natale (both good sets, although I like the height of the 1st one) Community will give Cascade all they can handle tommorow. I think this is a winnable game for us. I may be out on a limb here but if we don't play around with team sets Cascade is about to get an education.
  5. Oh come on..starting 2 freshman 2 sophmores and a junior. The freshman have no business getting the minutes they do or starting. If the real team started eagleville would have been a win...ask the eagleville coach, he knows it, trust me he knows it. If Edmonson is trying to develope his bench to have them ready for a few key moments in the playoffs...say so, we could all accept that. But can everybody please stop pretending the freshman who start have earned their spots...how many games does it take to see that is not true. The stands will hush when starting assignments and playing time are dictated by performance. Ooo, we beat boyd! Hey grammer, that was an intelligent way to address the points I raise..attack me. In all of this I have yet to see anyone, not one person, say that the freshman who start are better than the boys they have replaced..no one will say because it is not true. And it has been proven on the court six times! By the way, take a look at my early predictions on Eagleville, Forrest and Cascade. You can laugh, I'll settle for being right. Sorry Proud, but your boy is being used to cover up this foolishness. Thank heaven for the vikings that he and the other real guard are still willing to play as hard as they do.
  6. I hesitate to write this, because some boys will probably suffer retaliation as a result. But, as a dad and mom (2 people I like and respect) with a son on the team pointed out to me, we have an obligation to speak out about this, it is an ethical issue. Union...cut it out with the "bashing" thing. No one is bashing the coach, and no parents are forming groups to get the coach. He stepped way over the line, well intentioned or not, between personal relationships and basketball decisions. The parents of the better and more experienced players are justifiably upset. So is anyone who wants to see the boys treated fairly and the team do well. No one cares about the past good or ill. Its not all about the coach you know. There are very few 8th graders pulled up to varsity, none that start and almost none that get any playing time to mention. Young Edmonson, while a good middle player had no where near the talent to justify the move. The middle school team needs him and the varsity does not. Cody and Kyle, while good middle players are no where near good enough to start or get the playing time they get. How many freshman get any time at all. There are many in the district who are much better than these two who never see the court. Their status on the team has nothing to do with their ability, it is due to their relationships...it can't get any more wrong than that. That is not a knock on the boys by the way. I can't believe you said it does not matter who starts! Of course it does, and it matters who plays. You might make a point if the team had been weak at guard, but it is not. XXX and YYY are so much better than the three anointed ones that it isn't even close. The plan to play a pushover schedule and start those boys blew up in the 1st qtr of the 1st game. Everything since has been an attempt to justify it, including the wrong being done to ZZZ, who you may remember started the 1st game at the 3 because he earned it. The boys are being treated unjustly and the team is hurting because of it. That is a fact, not bashing, if the truth hurts so be it. As cascade 11 said the only way to make this right is to play the best 5 players. That will never happen of course. This team exists to give 3 boys and unearned chance to play varsity ball, and no one in authority cares about the talent, ambitions, and dreams of some fine boys who are learning that it is who you know and not what you do that counts. Let me see, that is the lesson we have public school sports teams to teach, right.
  7. This team is ready to implode. The season ended at MJC, and the lid nailed shut when the starting linup was announced friday night. The real team never got on the court and never will.
  8. no, but a friend who does. And really I am not trying to "bash" the coach, just relaying facts. He thought his son and a friend who he is close to were better than they are, understandable, but now that reality has come he seems a little slow adjusting to it. It is a tough situation I am sure. With this one exception, he doing a great job with this team. It is a tough situation for him and I feel his pain: As long as natale and white are on the team (they are sophmores), edmonson and pierce are going to be the third and fourth best guards in unionville. So moving his son up hurts the kid, who would be starring on his middle team, but helps the varsity by having a pretty good backup and effectively sits pierce for this year. White could slide to the 3 with edmonson at 2, but that keeps haynes on the bench. Haynes is a tall (6'3 sophmore), fast, athletic, good shooting boy on a basketball team where the only hole is at the 3. Not developing him in that position would be tragic. Muldar has proven many times he has something to contribute that the edmonson and pierce will never bring. So coach Ed is stuck between his heart and putting the best team on the court, not just this year but for two years after that. No, I am not down on him, but he owes it to the kids to make this gut wrenching call.
  9. Hey baller proudpop is a proud pop, give the guy a break ( and yes david is going to be at the top of the list before he graduates). Ok Hampshire is well, shall we say struggling. But Mt J Chr. has some players and Santa Fe has one tough pg. Even weak teams can have good and great players. The mt J PG is legit! They had us down by 20 something before white and natale entered. Pop is not far off on his estimation of those 4 boys...they are something to watch. Even if the team isn't ready to claim the hardware yet, those 4 ballers are going to show d9 some action.
  10. I couldn't make this one but i heard about it. Hampshire...bless their hearts! Proud I want to believe this linup stuff is all well intentioned...really I do. (PS, I told you moore county would beat cascade!) This is a string to celebrate Viking success, which I dearly love doing, so i'll agree, lay off the coach. In that vain: The 2 boys who did not make the run that are playing are not starting. They are playing because white is going to be the best 2 guard or 3 forward in the district in the next year or two, muldar is a jr who helped keep the team together through a very tough season last year. Both are solid athletes who have given the coach 100% and produced for him since the 7th grade. They earned starting slots and are not starting. Not playing them would be a grave injustice. Pascal is new and not ready and adcock can't keep up on a varsity court. Coach Ed made the right call on this.
  11. Could be dustin or maybe Norris, they were both prolific scorers. Norris is gone. Coach is doing some funny things but the boys played through it. He sat Hull (19pts 1st game) and effectively sat white (who is a 20 pt per game scorer and solid defender) and sat Muldar, a Jr., who had a great 1st game, much of the time. He played an 8th grader and two 9th graders alot of the time, and sat the rest of his bench all game. I know he is trying to develop a bench and keep fresh legs for an up tempo game, but starting these boys and sitting great players to do it is a funny way to go about it. Especially after the effort the boys gave him last year as undeclassmen playing a tough varsity schedule. They have earned the court time twice. The best, or maybe worst, part of it is that the four boys who should be starting and playing most of the minutes are awsome together! With the easy schedule we have this year they, with the right fifth man for the situation, would win 16 to 18 games this year. I trust Coach Ed knows what he is doing and will do the right thing come the season. These boys have earned it.
  12. Wellllll! The Vikings are 2-0. Weaker teams, yes, but not rollover teams. The boys looks real good, the raw basketaball talent and athletisism of ....
  13. Good showing rockets. I see Shankle is off for a victory lapp this year, good for him. Schnapp was big, I thought he would be. I see the red headed kid got 5, some of our boys played on a travel with him years back, nice to see him get a shot and make good. I guess Schnapp was playing guard? Hope so, I can't wait to see our PG, Natale, take him on. We are not ready for y'all on team level yet, but the matchups are going to be fun. Grats on a good win.
  14. hey, who you calling old...my old man can whip your old man..LOL
