  1. Boys play after the girls or in between games?
  2. What time does the tourney start tonight?
  3. The officials were clearly not in line to eventually work in the NFL. The punt spot for the one that went out of bounds seemed a little off. The one that really cracked me up was when they called a timeout to measure for a first down before they added one of our personal foul flags. Essentially, they were measuring to see if Sparta had the first by 14 or 15. I agree that the number of flags have been excessive. That stems from us running our mouth. If you remember at Warren Co. we received one unsportsmanlike before Warren broke the offensive huddle. This is part of what I was speaking of in my original post. If some consequences and standards were set from the beginning or at least after the Warren collapse, we would shut our mouth and play or they would no longer be in the game. Instead we sit a kid for a cross country meet. The fight seems to be different than originally thought. I witnessed the original altercation as the White Co. team walked past the field house. It involved a player from our team that has had continuous problems of one kind or another all season. I thought at that moment that it was another incident in his illustrious history. I do know that his dad got him and left as soon as he changed. From what I have heard today, the CCHS players involved were walking to their car with a girl friend and were approached by some White Co. players. At that point, the girl was allegedly pushed by the Sparta player and CCHS threw a punch to defend. I am sure that is not the full story but that is what I heard from my son. He was not involved but talked to someone afterwards that was. As far as punishment, maybe the administration will handle it as a school incident. If so, something might be done. If it is left to the coach, maybe he will limit them to only one refill at the banquet.
  4. I am sad to say that the season is over for the team and all of the seniors that truly left it all out there every friday night for the last four years. In the end, both seasons in the Parton era have ended strangely the same. We started the season strong and gradually faded until we had the worst performance of the season in the final game with a chance at the playoffs against White Co. and we lay an egg. I really felt like we had turned things around this season until the Warren Co. game and I told all of those that care that we lost more than a game that night. That statement rang true. The team suffered some token punishment, had to remove the lightning from their helmet and moved on to tally an average of 6 to 10 personal foul/unsportsmanlike penalties per game to finish the season. That was a five game stretch of penalty after penalty for something that could have been disciplined after the Warren game. Yet during that stretch we did have someone set out a half of football as punishment for his actions. I know one might say that is a step in the right direction. The problem was that this kid sat out a half against Coffee Co. because he missed a practice to run in a Cross Country event that had been scheduled months in advance. This kid was playing two sports (and going to state in CC) and sat out a half. Meanwhile, we have players missing because they are "sick" in groups sometimes or have to perform community service and they never miss a beat. Discipline has not been a part of our program for at least five years now and it doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon. Ultimately, I know that nobody cares outside of our county because we are irrelevant and a typical easy win for most that we schedule. For the parent that lives on every play for their son and the young man that works and gives his all, it is so relevant and at the time seems like everything. My son, proud to say, has learned discipline, honesty, and responsibility at home. All of these boys do not and in the end the coaches are responsible for trying to make them the best football player they can. Like it or not, the bigger responsibility is teaching them to some degree to be men as well. Maybe I expect to much or maybe I am just disappointed for my son.
  5. Congrats to WC, you deserved to win the game. #76 and 10 did play great. For the life of me, I don't know how we don't get the ball to #34 more often. It seems like we have about 3 pass plays and WC made the right adjustment at halftime. I don't know what our coaches do at halftime but that seems to be what happens to us every time. We get dominated in the third every game. I felt like we lost more than the game tonight. We lost integrity. I was ashamed that it seemed the coach had NO control over his team. At some point, deserved or not, you have to pull some of the kids that are costing you 15 every other play. Teaching these kids a lesson is more important than a chance to win a game. WC had a fair share of dirty stuff as well, so don't get too accusatory. WC had several unsportsmanlike calls against them as well. We certainly blew a wonderful opportunity to control our own playoff destiny. It felt like Livingston game last year with an additional complete loss of composure for certain players. A message needs to be sent next week in practice. Probably will lead to a smack on the wrist or an extra day of sick leave.
  6. I know nothing about WC football but I have been experiencing CCHS football for many years now. It sounds like WC is going through what we have been going through for the previous five years. This year is a different Jets team. We are no longer a 40-50 point victory for everyone to schedule for homecoming. That has been an easy decision for teams in the past. It wasn't a good decision this year. If we come out and keep the defense guessing by mixing up the run and pass, we will win. If we come out trying not to lose, we will lose. Of course, it would be nice if WC is looking forward to an easy victory and underestimates us.
  7. I did not realize that was the way it worked. Thanks for the information.
  8. Cookeville is in our district. Would that not mean that if they are 6A, we are? The other high school is in a lower division I believe.
  9. Didn't see Cumberland Co. on the list. They are 2-2 as well and played Cookeville last week and looked solid.
  10. We actually won the second half. If our coaching staff would not start the game out trying not to lose, we might have had a chance tonight. When our play calling has some balance, we play much better on offense. I think we threw one pass in the first half. I might have missed one or two but I don't think so. We mixed it up in our two wins and in the two losses, we seemed afraid to pass the ball until we had to do so. I do like our chances in the rest of our schedule. By the way, the original long snapper had one high snap against Marion Co. and was replaced immediately. Many times we would be better off going for it on fourth than punting. Last week, we had a punt under five yards net and it wasn't a big return. Not trying to complain, just disappointed because I really thought we had a great chance tonight. Still a drastic improvement in comparison to the previous few years.
  11. Scrimmage tonight versus Campbell Co. and S. Doyle went well. Did a good job on the ground and through the air. Defense played strong also giving up only one score. Thanks to all those with well wishes for our season. Good luck to all of you as well. Hopefully everyone has a safe and fun season.
  12. It seems that by you starting the topic that you truly were interested in the program. The problem is that the truth is you started the topic to bad mouth our coach and talk about how terrible our program is. I think that if you ask some parents of players, you will get a generally positive response in regards to the job that Partin is doing. You lost all credibility in my eyes when you stated that Shultz was a good head coach. I dare say you could not find one parent with positive comment on the job he was doing. No one that cares about a school or football program could say, "1 -29, he is turning it around, give him another year." If you drove two and a half hours to Lincoln Co. to watch us losing by 50 at halftime, you would not be positive I assure you. If what you say about Stiles is true, I have worked with many people in my life that I didn't see eye to eye with and made it work. Partin has worked many years to get the chance to be a head coach and if he thinks his way is best and he wants to do the best he can do with that chance, I don't have a problem with that. The job of head coach is to set expectations for the assistant coaches and make sure that they adhere to those expectations. It is the same as being a supervisor at a factory. The boss gives direction, the subordinate follows those directions and if they fail to follow those directions, they have conflict and eventually that subordinate is looking for other employment. Maybe you have never been in a position where you supervised, I don't know. Try going to work tomorrow and telling your boss that you want to do things your way today. See how far that gets you.
  13. Funny thing is you cared enough to read the topic. We will find out. Consider this, if we beat you this year, what will that say about your program?
  14. The head coach of the KC Chiefs in the little league known as the NFL never played a down of football in his life. Does that mean you can't be a good coach? I don't think so. It is not like these guys are making up game plans. I do believe that Coach Davis is officially on the staff now blueangel51. Great trade in the end, shultz for Davis.
  15. It seems that you are not hearing reliable information. Health concerns were the issue with Coach Stiles. I have been told that he hopes to return next season if his health will allow. CCHS did lose the first three season against Stone and that was a direct result of the coaching staff. We were 1 - 29 under Shultz. I am sure you would love to have seen another season. Easy victory for you. He could have hired Norm Chow as the OC and we still couldn't score enough points to overcome our defense that gave up 50 a game. Coached by the man himself. My son played with blueangel and played a different position every week in a different offensive scheme. One week would lead the team in tackles and the next week would not play defense. White County game in 2007, losing by 14 with about 4 minutes to go in the 4th. Fourth and 1 on about the 20 yard line and we attempt a field goal. I know we have elementary teams in this county with more discipline than those teams had. When kids say that the practices at the high school are easier than elementary, that is a problem. It was not turning around in 100 seasons. I was thrilled when he moved to Stone and still am. I have been encouraged with the results so far with Partin and if that requires him to be some of the things you have stated about him, then keep it up. Maybe that loss last year signaled a crumbling of that elitist Stone attitude and starts a fear that it will become the norm rather than the exception.
