I'm glad you agree, but as I mentioned in a previous post, I'm a girl. I don't believe they allow people of my sex to play high school football. Too bad. I would if I could - while ALSO playing in the BAND!

I agree very much so with your last statement. As for your bad experience with your band director, I am sorry. Not every band can be blessed with an awesome director that sees the value in both band and sports. My band director encourages each and every one of us to participate in sports. For the past few years, we have had 1 or 2 football players to play in the band also! It's very awesome to see photos in our newspaper that shows our boys wearing a football uniform AND and band hat. =)

I am a senior at Jackson County High School. Throughout my years, I have played many sports as recreational fun and as competition. (You can probably see where my dad has posted sappy things about me in the Softball forum /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=".) I was on my school's dance team for a year, which got me back into shape. And, believe it or not, I am one of the THREE senior girl drummers in our Band In Blue. First of all, my band only does the marching band because it's what our school makes us do. There must be some reason they want us out there. What could that be...? Maybe...to raise spirit? We're the same as cheerleaders, but we just play a fight song rather than say "Go Team Go". We're there to pep up our teams and our audiences. Instead of working AGAINST our our teams (which seems to happen between football and band world-wide), we should be working with them. What are sports for anyway? Is it not for children (or very active adults) to get out there and do what they love for the sake of good, clean competition? Every sport I can think of falls under that category, as well as other extracurriculars that are sometimes deprived of the "sport" label such as cheerleading, dance, and band. I don't care what CoachT classifies as a sport. I would not care if Band was taken off right this minute. (We bandies would always have marchingbandplanet.) I just believe that people are being close-minded because these organizations, such as band, bring it upon themselves to wage wars. You bandies that are fighting with your sports, you need to stop. That's not what we're for. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. If I'm not mistaken since cookeville has won if upperman wins they would have to play at JC. Thats the way it was when JC had to play upperman a couple of years ago. They had to play at a nuetral site (Cookeville). I hope this has changed though.
  6. JC jumped out to a 11 to 0 lead and ended up winning 71 to 51.There was roughly 50 fouls called too.

I'm sorry, but running does not make something a sport. Take golf for example. The only preson running is probably the caddy. Come on.
  8. What are your predictions? Anyone planning on attending?

People have their own definitions of weird. Maybe band students think football players are weird. Who knows? This just sounds like a fight for the cliques. That can stay in school. Not in the fields and courts.

Then again, look at the other things that are considered sports, and they are judged and placed,..without head to head competition. You've got long-jump, javelin, gymnastics, and all these other things in our Olympics. They don't put glue in the powder for gymnasts, or anything like that either. And yet, they are judged. They are placed. They are told "You're second, and you're first.." But I guess I can kick myself in the butt, because what I just said has nothing to do with TSSAA.

Jackson County High School. Love the school. But the band just isn't appreciated for what they do. Every now and then we get recognition, but I guess it's just where the main focus in this county is high-contact sports.

Nah. Our band gets $100. I guess that's just a difference of counties though.

I don't know where you came from, but 75% of the people in my county come to either see the cheerleaders, or the band. And I really wouldn't be complaining, because even if they ARE parents, guess where the money goes! Football. Most bands I know around here get no more than $100 to make it on a year. Look what football gets.

    TSSAA and Band

Well, it would be a little hard for band to be entered into TSSAA, because I think they wouldnt understand how to judge us. They can't say "Well, we think you're the best in this class, and you in this one." It just doesn't work that way in TSSAA. I agree with herefortheband, MTSBOA is exactly the same thing. Anyway, I don't think the other sports would like us treading on their championship soil if you know what I mean. We can stick with MTSBOA.
