  1. Who's gonna get this job at a great school?
  2. How has Riverdale and Soddy adjusted to coaching changes? Following coaches with a lot of success and in Soddy's case - legendary success - its tough.. Beech seems to have lost the "fun" of playing - look afraid to make mistakes IMHO... not sure about coaching? anyone know more on that?... Smyrna should get back as confidence and pitching can carry you a long way... Dickson has had 3 good classes in a row and should be as good as anyone... East TN and West TN other than Chatt areas aren't usually a huge factor - it comes down to execution in crunch time - time will tell
  3. And that folks sums it up correctly - Portland cannot compete night in and out in 9AAA - don't have the talent - you can't play 7-10 kids both ways and be a winner - doesn't matter who the coach is... I think the new principal was under pressure to help himself "fit in" to the community - Coach Aric is a good coach and person - when you have expectations that aren't realistic in the community you don't have a chance - same thing is going on in Lebanon and has been since mid to late 90's...
  4. Henry Co. has much more depth - They are platooning an offense and defense and are 2 deep in most positions. Very solid. Don't have the super player like a Hurd. But very solid. Kicker has very good leg and was accurate tonight on all kicks. Beech is going both ways and the offensive and defensive lines have a long, long way to go. Hurd could have made it close but HC is/was the bettter team at this time with out a doubt. That being said - playing Sunday and having a short week look like it affected Beech. In fact, it might affect them next week too. They were worn out by end of the third qtr. HC stacked the D to stop Carter. He is the real deal - but again the offensive line has to get better - HC much better in the trenches.
  5. Anyone could win this - my top picks would be Tullahoma or Farragut in one bracket or winner of Riverdale-Collierville in the other bracket. DB could also make a run.
  6. Friendship has experience in Seniors plus State Tourney experience - also have deep pitching After FCS - Silverdale is next best team. Riverside - lack of pitching will show up toward finals of bracket play - Summertown will be a pest and could upset Silverdale and make it to the finals. I thnk it will be Silverdale vs Friendship in finals.
  7. gotta be played at least a day before the state starts
  8. talent pool is dwindling and questionable coaching decisions at times... Beech is going downhill next few years IMHO - I saw their middle school team play, some young talent but not much in 7th and 8th grade. On top of that 9AAA is down - already eliminated form region play tonight. HS sports runs in cycles and this cycle is on the way down -
  9. Yea Goodpasture is loaded - their middle school team was so good last year they didn't have one this year. If they did they must have intersquaded all spring. The only way they get players is to recruit.
  10. All private schools should be D2... the ones with any sense are. The two I can think of that definitely need be are Goodpasture and CPA (Recruit better than UT in basketball).
  11. I've seen Hurd for 2 years - he is much better this year than last - I've seen Maybin on film -he is a hoss - can BHS tackle him and the fullback - if they do, and don't turn it over they win... if not the Eagles will fly...
  12. Portand had 63 yards on 39 rushes for 1.6 per carry and 82 yards passing vs Beech - 145 total yards 41-0 loss in week 0
  13. RA Dickey - MBA in 93 almost single handedly won a state tourney by himself -
  14. Linbaugh is right here - In fact in the 80's and 90's it was standard fare as most if not all district play was on a Mon-Wed-Fri rotation and there were very few if any tournaments played... by the end of the 90's everyone was having a tourney - there really were no regulations on maximum amount you could play - they counted as two games... so districts figured out how to play the least amount of district games they could so they could get more games in tournaments... this is what lead to the new rules in place now on pre season scrimmages, etc... Most schools would have two main starters and one week one guy threw mon-fri and the other threw on wed and the next week they would rotate... pitch counts were not really a big deal - some teams didn't even keep them... the high school game has evolved as now its like a college thing where we play "series" with another school on back to back days so you won't have to face the other guys' #1 guy more than once - back in the old days some teams would see him twice and others would not see him at all due to the m-w-f rotation... in some ways that's good in others i think high school athletics are way out of whack - too much emphasis put on virtually every sport there is... priorities - think about it - at most, high school sports are all most will play... a few will move on to college - so we spend all this time for 8 years of a kids life??? in the grand scheme - we'd be better off going to back to 24 -30 games total and a single elimination tourney all the way thru the state tourney... but i guess that's another story?
