  1. Yes it does. However, I am certified 1-8 so that would probably knock me out of the list of possible candidates. I think I'm a good coach and could do some really good things with the kids. You are right in that I have a relationship with many of the players that are there and in the community. It would be a good fit except for the certification. Do you miss it at all? What are your thoughts on East Lit and CR?
  2. I know that there are quality assistants in Rutherford County. However, there are so good ones working hard in Metro too! Just because an assistant coach from Rutherford County applies does not mean that they are the best candidate for the job. In my opinion, these positions should be filled with the best coach. If it comes down to two that are pretty even and one is already in Metro then that person should receive the job as a show of loyalty.
  3. Gambler great post. Old Dad there is nothing to complain about in your post. Your opinion is your opinion. Again, I have an open door for you anytime you want to come and see one of my practices. I think you would be impressed with what you saw on the field. Runtheball - I am going to email you tomorrow. I need some of your wisdom and advice!
  4. Most around town have speculated that this would happen. Is it the right move by CR? I don't know. I know many like Abner and say he is a great guy. If you look at his record at CR it is not very impressive at this point. You can't say that the team is new anymore. I know that injuries played a part in how the team's season went. However, when you dress somewhere around 100 players you would hope that the second and third team guys would be coached up to fill in and not have a dramatic decrease in efficiency. Maybe those players just were not as good. Maybe there is a lot more to the situation than what we know. Anyway, hopefully something will be better confirmed soon. I could be wrong about this. It certainly would not be the first time I have been wrong about something. I heard it from a very reliable source. Either way those around CR need certainty as to who their coach is going to be, new or same. JPCraig how about it. What's your take on CR? Would you apply if it is open? Why are the wins not coming?
  5. Add Cane Ridge to the list. That is three Metro openings with more to come. Who are the front runners for Cane Ridge? I would like to see Arnold from McGavock or Thigpen from Overton.
  6. I do not know. My buddy just said that he showed interest and received word that the position was already filled from within. Good luck to whomever is the new coach and to Forrest.
  7. I am pretty sure that the administration already knew who they wanted. My buddy is a veteran teacher, has his masters degree, is seeking national board certification, and has a coaching record of 40-10 and did not even get a look. Seems like this was a done deal.
  8. It was from within. I think that the people around Forrest probably knew it would happen.
  9. Good luck to the new head coach. Decision has been made.
  10. I can tell you that runtheball is correct about Overton.
  11. Old Dad I keep bringing up not only Rankins first year but all of the Riverdale years before Rankin simply because Riverdale, as I have proven to you once before, was not always a dominant power. Maybe Rankin saw the writing on the wall and left and therefore Coach A did not inherit exactly what you think he did. Maybe Rankin knew that Riverdale's run was over and so he left to go start another run with Alcoa who was already a dominant power. I dont know, I am not Rankin and I dont know what he was thinking. I am not Coach A either so I dont know what he was left with. I know you were not a fan of Rankin as a person, you have said as much many times. As far as Metro, yes I am a coach. Do I love everything that goes on in and out of the building, no sir. Does Metro have its problems, yes sir there are plenty. But I love my job because of the kids. They are why you get into teaching and coaching. Every time you knock Metro you knock many of us that give up our time to work with kids, give up our time with our families and friends, work our rear ends off each and every day just to make the smallest improvement in a kids life. You also knock each coach that does all of the things that you seem to think is important. Go ask an Anitoch player how hard they work every day in the weightroom and ask the coaches what all they are doing to win and coach the kids up. Come spend the day with me and see what all I am doing on my level with my team. I think you would be pleasantly surprised.
  12. Old Dad I have nothing but respect for you and what you did for our country. I have respect for your thoughts and opinions as well. With that said, as another poster stated, TSSAA mandates that each sport must have three weeks off without contact from the coaches. Players can do what they want on their own time but a coach cannot coach in any form or fashion. The time off is for the players, not the coaches. Too many coaches were hitting the ground running the day after the season was over. The kids need time to rest from a long physical season, especially like the season your guys just had in district 7. Now my soapbox. Until you have been a Metro coach do not act like you know what it actually means to be a Metro coach. Also, there is not a Metro way or even a Rutherford County way. There is not even a Riverdale way. Like I have stated to you before, Riverdale was not always a dominant power that you seem to think that they were. Coach A's record is right up there with Rankin's in overall winning percentage. He may not have as many gold balls or even silver balls but his record is still pretty darn good. Each coach is different no matter where they coach. All Metro coaches are different and share no such way as you think.
  13. I would not say that Overton cares more about the band than anything else. Some do but just as many still care about sports as those that care about the band. It is true that the student body has drastically changed over the years. However, it has been about the same the last five years or so. Overton is not going down the drain just yet. As long as Anderson is there they will be competitive at the least. You have to remember that they are still 7-3 which is better than most other teams in the state. They lost to rivals Father Ryan and Antioch. The East Lit game was a surprise but there have been a lot of distractions for the bobcats lately and add to that the fact that East Lit is a pretty good team that lost some very close games and there you have it. East lost to CPA by only about 7 points. It will be very interesting to see who the bobcats draw in the first round of the playoffs and what will happen in the off season.
  14. Run I can see the following openings: East Lit, Hillsboro, Hillwood, Hunters Lane, Cane Ridge, and Overton. I see East simply due to Wilson's health. I hope he is doing better but only he knows for sure if he can go another year. I see Hillsboro simply because they have gone way down and I do not see them improving in their district. I see Hillwood just because I dont know how much longer Bubba wants to coach. I see Hunters Lane because they are like Hillsboro. They have gone way down. I see Cane Ridge since Abner still is yet to produce. And finally I see Overton simply because I dont know how much more Terry can take. I could also see Stratford on this list because Jason hasnt produced either. Out of all of these I see at least three openings with a possible seven. It would be a complete turnover in metro. Hunters Lane and Cane Ridge have the athletes and those could be decent jobs. Overton could be a good job if it werent a band school! The others I wouldnt want any part of. Like you said, be careful what you ask for.
  15. Run I just emailed you. As to Hillsboro, I stated a long......time ago that everything goes in cycles and many HHS supporters laughed at the comment. Welcome to the tumble cycle. Hillsboro could be back up if they go back to the district that they should be in.
  16. Simply put private schools do not care where athletes are. They will find them. For the last several years Rutherford County has been at the top of TN football in 6A. Week in and week out they have to prepare for a tough game, unless they are playing La Vergne or a non-district weak opponent. La Vergne is getting better but still has a long way to go to be with the rest of Rutherford County. The past couple of years Williamson County has been down. Ravenwood has dropped off a great deal, last year Indy was awful, Centennial has always been awful, and even Franklin and Brentwood have struggled compared to the early 2000's. I know Franklin did well last year but even they have been down. If you want to say all of the what ifs then look at Metro. Many of the top athletes from Metro go to the private schools. Take Antioch High alone and all of the kids that attend private schools or even Hillsboro. If Antioch High was to have all of their zoned athletes they would go deep into the playoffs every year.
  17. I am sure I know just as much as you think you know. Talent and athletes will only get you so far. A team has to have all the ingredients to be a true contender. I just do not see that being the case at Indy. I am still not sold on Dyson. Lets see how Indy does against Franklin and the remaining schedule before we say Indy is for real. Indy still has Franklin for the district title and Siegel. Indy should beat CC, Hillsboro, and Ravenwood. I see it as Indy's record being 7-3 possibly still 6-4 if they slip up and let CC, HHS, or RW beat them. Indy goes into the playoffs as probably a #3 seed and may just get Brentwood again.
  18. That is true. Told you I might eat crow. Sorry Indy fans about that one.
  19. You are wrong. Last week an Indy poster said Centennial struggled against a weak Overton team and got beat by them. Overton faired much better than Indy did so I guess that makes Indy worse than a weak Overton team. I find it hard to believe that anyone from Indy would ever say another team is weak. How quickly we forget. All of these Indy fans are so happy.....enjoy it while you can. You have only played one good team this year. How did that one go for Indy? Everyone is saying how stingy the Indy defense is. They haven't played anyone with a real offense. I may eat crow on this one but Indy will lose to both Franklin and Siegel and probably even one more team they should not lose to and fall to 6-4 on the year. They may make the playoffs as a #3 seed or even a wild card but will quickly be sent home for the holidays.
  20. Here’s my take on Metro football: McGavock goes 6-4 losing to Tullahoma, Mt. Juliet, Franklin, and Overton. Overton goes 9-1 losing to either Father Ryan or David Lipscomb. They could easily go 10-0 and just as easily go 7-3 if they start to lose players. They do not have depth. Cane Ridge goes 5-5. I just do not see the Ravens going anywhere until they actually start to gel as a team. Way too much talent last year without much to show for it. Antioch goes 7-3. The schedule is in their favor to make the playoffs. 5A really suits this team well and they could make some noise if they get hot. Glencliff goes back down hill. They had started to be at least competitive but with the new coach they fall again. Hillwood will be better but will still be Hillwood. Maplewood goes 8-1 losing to Riverdale. Maplewood will be a strong contender and like someone said arguably the best Metro team. Pearl Cohn will do well and probably goes 7-3 making the playoffs. East Lit continues to improve going 6-4 and could make the playoffs as a wild card team. Stratford probably will do good to win 3 games this year. Whites Creek will do better. Could not do much worse than last year.
  21. You cant blame this on the coaches. This was a parent group. Blame them for once. Sounds like the AD and wrestling coach got the benefits not football.
  22. From the word I got it was 2 Cubs, a raven, and a raven feeder. My guess is a raven got the job.
  23. Good to see you back on here. Here are my three comments and then I am done. Again, if the 2006 team had been good enough then they would have. Everybody can say we were good enough only if ____________. Second, most coaches choke against GQ compared to all other coaches. Lastly, there is no Metro attitude of cant win them all. To go along with that, Riverdale did not win all of their games. I have repeatedly told you that before Rankin Riverdale was an average team. During the Rankin years Riverdale saw the glory years. Rankin knew it was ending and left due to Blackman, siegel, and even Eagleville splitting the wealth of athletes. Also, Riverdale could not and did not win all of their games. If they had, they would have had gold balls every year that Rankin was there which is not the case. Riverdale was a great team, and in my opinion, still is. Do not make them out to have been untouchable though. Like I said, Im done. Glad to see you alive and kicking. It had been awhile since you were on here last.
