  1. I did not have the pleasure to watch the video. From my vantage point it appeared to be a very obvious facemask. If I am wrong about that part then I apologize to the young man. The Tennessean prints things all of the time that is not accurate or investigated before it is printed. Spoon and UrRong so glad you both could grace us with your words of wisdom. Nowastedtime your comment was way out of bounds. If I am wrong about a facemask call I will gladly apologize to the young man. I did not have the pleasure to watch the video. Comparing what I did to having an innocent person go to jail is absolutely uncalled for. No class.......
  2. The visit was very cold. Blackman has a great set up and a good atmosphere for high school football. I was impressed and had a very good experience even though the team I was pulling for got beat. Congrats Blackman and good luck the rest of the way.
  3. I just read the article in the Tennessean. I also read all of the posts from last night. Why is it that no one gives Overton any credit at all. Blackman was the better team no doubt. However many posters thought that Blackman would win by at least thirty. Several posters have said that Overton's #5 was not good. One poster even said that if he was a D1 player then Blackman has at least 25-30 just like him. The Tennessean said Blackman coasts to victory and the game was boring. Several of the Blackman players and even Shad said that Blackman did not play their best game. Could it be that maybe Overton was actually pretty good? Mathers is a great back. For once he was actually tackled without breaking any really long runs. His longest was about thirty and the second longest was barely twenty. He also fumbled for the first time in a while due to a big hit. Blackman's QB was picked off once. Overton moved the ball fairly well on Blackman's defense. #5 had 7 catches for over 100 yards and two touch downs. #7 for Overton had over 100 yards. Blackman may have a couple of players like Overton's #5, one being Mathers, but no where near 25-30. If they did MTSU and other schools would be all over them. The Tennessean also mentioned the play where the Blackman defender got an open shot on the Overton QB late in the game, no facemask was called even though it was completely obvious, and then he picked the ball up and walked in. The Tennessean completely messed that one up giving the Blackman defender paper time for getting away with a facemask. Im not taking anything away from Blackman. You all have a great team. However, Overton deserves some credit for playing better than most people thought that they would and for playing a hard fought game.
  4. Blackman is a very talented team. Everyone knew this coming into the game and it really showed. Mathers played a great game no doubt but he does not do it alone. Blackman's line got a great push up front all night long. Blackman's QB looked good as well. He got the job done when needed. Defensively I thought that Overton was able to move the ball on Blackman. The second series Overton moved the ball down field until #7 fumbled it away. I thought Blackman bent but did not break. They were tough. For Overton it was all about depth. They do not have any. I thought #7 ran pretty well except for the two fumbles. #5 is a very talented player which is why he signed with MTSU. In Overton's offense it does not always show. Overton is a running team and that is why he does not get the numbers some other players in a different offense would get. Great game for Blackman and a really good year for Overton. By the way the score should have been 28-14. On the play where the Blackman defended walked into the endzone untouched late in the game the Blackman defender carried Overton's QB down with an obvious facemask. This was not called. The QB was also obviously down when the ball came out a moment later. The Blackman defender picked it up and walked in. Horrible officiating. It did not matter though as Blackman was clearly the better team. Congrats on moving on and Good luck. The game was much closer than most thought it would be. Many said Blackman would win by thirty or more.
  5. Overton will bring some but dont expect anything like what you are used to. Overton brings more fans than any other Metro team but it is no where close to the fans at the surrounding counties.
  6. I went through and figured out the point totals for 6A Quad 3 since it has gotten a lot of attention and because it is the one I am interested in most! Smyrna would receive points for beating: Beech (5), Brentwood (6), Blackman (6), Siegel (6), Riverdale (6), and Oakland (6) for a total of 35pts. Blackman would receive points for beating: Tullahoma (5), Lincoln County (6), Siegel (6), Oakland (6), Brentwood (6), and Riverdale (6) for a total of 35pts. I put them behind Smyrna since Smyrna won the district and beat them head to head. Oakland would receive points for beating: Ensworth (6), Siegel (6), Brentwood (6), Riverdale (6), and Lincoln County (6) for a total of 30pts. Brentwood would receive points for beating: Gallatin (5) and Franklin (6) for a total of 11pts. Mt. Juliet would receive points for beating: McGavock (6) and Hendersonville (5) for a total of 11. I put them behind Brentwood since Brentwood won their district. McGavock would receive points for beating: Overton (6) for a total of 6pts. Franklin would receive zero points. Overton would receive zero points. First round games would look like: Smyrna v. Overton Blackman v. Franklin McGavock v. Oakland even though Oakland is the higher seed. McGavock won their district so they would have the home game. Brentwood v. Mt. Juliet. These two tied for points. Brentwood would get the home game since they won their district. It seems more fair but I am sure that Oakland would argue that they should receive home field for being the higher seed.
  7. I agree somewhat. I think Tn should go to five classes. Four for public schools and small private schools. One for large private schools that offer financial aid. Place the small private schools that offer financial aid two classes above where their enrollment would normally place them. The classes could have very easy cutoff points. 500 or below 1A, 501-1000 2A, 1001-1500 3A, and 1500 or more 4A, the large private schools that offer financial aid could go to 5A. However, this would certainly not just be a tweak it would be an overhaul. One that is much needed by the way.
  8. Only a couple of days away from opening night games. Weather looks to be great football weather maybe even a bit on the chilly side! The field will probably be a little damp since they are predicting morning light showers. I watched the videos on Mathers. The kid is very talented and will be tough for Overton or anyone else to handle. When he runs it looks like a pinball machine with him bouncing all over the place and still going. Overton will have to play exceptionally well and not have any turnovers to win this game. I hope they do. Go bobcats.
  9. 1. District winners are guaranteed at least one home playoff game and a seed higher than any other district member. 2. Keep the tiebreakers except for the above. 3. Addition to tiebreaker that says games won against .500 teams. Add a point system. You get 1 point for every 1A school you beat, 2 points for every 2A, 3 for every 3A and small private, etc. Team with most points get the higher seed. All points must come from teams with a .500 record or better. You get nothing for beating a team with less than a .500 record. 4. For the playoffs also have a point system and reconfigure after each round. Add these points to the season total for new seedings. If you beat an 8 seed you get 1 point, a 7 seed 2 points, etc. Again team with the higher points gets the top seed. Just my opinions.
  10. Why even bring this up? Your guy still has another year to go and wont even play his senior year. A lot could happen in that time frame. No reason even to mention your guy.
  11. Everyone ignore Spoon. He is neither an Overton supporter nor a Hampton supporter. He is just someone who likes to hate Overton. Out of his 130ish posts over 100 have to do with his comment that Overton sucks. He just tries to cause trouble. He must be from a rival school or something. Hampton is really good. I would think that he and Mathers would be the best two athletes on the field. One (Mathers) is a featured back. Hampton is more of a slot receiver that gets a few touches a game and usually does well. He also handles the returns. He is a great kid and athlete.
  12. Good comparison. The passing game will have to come into play. Overton has some talent there so maybe they can pull off some deep passes to keep Blackman honest. If Overton can play ball control and run the clock with long drives I think they can win. They have to limit Mathers damage. You are right; He will get his. But if he is limited and if they can stop him at all then who else does Blackman have? All I have heard is how great Mathers is and not much else. Of course with him you dont need much else so that may be an awful question.
  13. Thats too bad. I was looking forward to something tasty.
  14. I believe these two teams used to play each other a couple of years ago. Overton scrimmages Smyrna and started the series while Shad was there. I would think that both schools would know what to expect. It will be closer than many posters say. I would think Old Dad would be pretty accurate in his posts. If Overton can stay in the game and not commit turnovers then expect a tight game. I know Mathers is the real deal and will be tough to contain. If Overton can find a way to do that then who knows what will happen. If Mathers gets loose then it could be a long night for the bobcats. Im pulling for the bobcats in the huge upset.
  15. The most important question: What to order at the concession stand? I know Oakland is famous for their dogs. What does Blackman have that is really good? Dogs, burgers, bbq, etc.?
  16. Yep Blackman caught a break. Overton is awful they were lucky to win a couple of games this year. The coaching staff is pathetic. The RB is about as slow as next Christmas and he is as soft as a pudding cup. The receivers are slow and must forget to wash their hands after eating them pregame buttered rolls. The line is so small they couldnt line up against UNA and get a good push. Defensively they cant tackle a thing. Dont even get me started on special teams. All sarcasm of course.
  17. I agree. Your defense is tough. One of the best and very physical. Overton will try to pound but I agree I think they will have to mix it up and try a couple of passes to keep things more balanced. I think it will be much closer than people think.
  18. I hope every Blackman fan thinks just like you. Overton is 8-2 and has looked great at times this year. The problem they have is depth. Many fans thought the same last year with Mcgavock and they gave you all fits. Keep thinking the way you do and by all means spread the word that Blackman shouldn't even show up for the game. That kind of thinking is foolish at this point in the year.
  19. Old Dad for once I agree with you. This will not be a cakewalk. Blackman has played the tougher schedule in Rutherford County. The closest thing that Overton faced to Blackman was Smyrna in the last scrimmage. The starters tied. What will get Overton is team depth. Overton simply does not have much whereas Blackman does. For Blackman they should expect smashmouth football with a couple of big plays with the speed guys you mentioned. For Overton they must stop Mathers. That is obviously easier said then done. I wont predict a winner but I will say that this is one of the better matchups in a loaded quad three. I think that is saying a lot.
  20. Ha ha...where have you been Mr. Spoon? I saw your buddy fork the other day on the side of the road. So an 8-2 team that is going to the playoffs sucks? Maybe to some, but not to the eight teams they beat. A lot of teams are sitting at home next week while Overton will be playing in the first round. Good finish for Indy winning a close game. I still say the whole Indy situation was handled very shady. Dyson may turn it around, he may be a great coach in time, but the professionalism was lacking in his hire. IMO Indy should have gone with Webb. He applied, was given an interview, rumor is he was offered the job, but turned it down due to knowing Dyson was going to eventually take over and have too much input for his liking. I dont know if any of the rumor is true or not but Webb would have been a good hire without all of the shady stuff.
  21. Wins against Siegel early (4-5) and more recently Hillsboro (3-6) and La Vergne (2-7) tell you that Dyson has Indy going in the right direction. Are you serious? If Indy had beaten someone with a winning record then I would say maybe he has them starting to get better. But these three wins say nothing at all. If it does then my how Indy has lowered their standards.
  22. What has he done to improve as a coach? Have the players bought into his system? Do the parents support the team? There is a big difference between players and parents liking someone than players buying into system and parents supporting team. Who else is on the staff and what are they doing to better themselves and the team? Is the team working their rear ends off? I think the majority would agree that Dyson is a good person. Fact is that is not going to win in Williamson County.

I would hate to be in quad 3. You have the best of Rutherford, Williamson, McGavock, and Mt. Juliet. That's a tough quad.
  24. I agree with Taco. You have to look at the past to know where you are headed. Indy has a short history. Going back to Smitty is not unrelative. But since you want to talk about the present and future...right now Indy stinks and is being led to one of its worst years since opening. With Summitt opening up next year its only going to get worse. I dont like the way he got the job but Dyson is the coach. What has he done and how is he improving as a coach? Are the players buying into his system? Are the parents supporting the team? Are the players working their butts off? Or is the honeymoon over? Right now it looks like the last option. Thats where Indy is heading unless something drastically changes.
  25. Hillsboro is struggling but they do have some talent. CR has won last two, a last minute game winning pass against DA and a win over HL who was without ten players and was struggling to win a game themselves. I dont think that is saying much. Either way this is going to be one ugly game. Flip a coin.
