  1. jvaughan, Thank you for your perspective. It very thoughtful and positive!
  2. Fourteen teams in one district!!!! Come on man!!! What was the TSSAA thinking? Next year District 16A will have 14 teams competing in their district. Things aren't much better for the 16AA teams either. I believe it is only a matter of time before the same thing happens in Class AAA. Why the changes? You eliminate half of the teams that would compete in the regional tournament before it even starts. Only allow 4 teams to advance, and make them travel on alternate years to Jackson, Dyersburg, etc., etc. Any real fan understands the politics of sectional games, now you have that scenerio mutilplied on the regional level. But then you have districts with 5 and 6 teams. Boy, they really have to play hard to advance. Try setting up brackets for a 14 team tournament when you can only play two games at one site on school nights! And Heaven forbid you have to play around some type of post season city or county championship. (Who knows what will happen with the MIAA City Championships after the merger). I'm sorry TSSAA, you screwed this one up! Instead of coming up with a format that would increase student participation, you've come up with a system that favors the money maker rural schools. Shame on you!!
  3. The teams in region 7 would be very foolish to disrespect Fairley. They are a very talented, athletic, and a well balanced team. Compared to BTW'S team last year, they have excellent guard play but lack production from the post.
  4. I thought Region 8 was a Memphis Region.
  5. It would be foolish not to say that the Mitchell Lady Tigers are a favorite to repeat as A-AA State Champions, but don't crown them yet. If this week's West Tennessee Pentathlon is an indication of things to come (Dyersburg took first and second), the Lady Tigers may be in trouble. Though they may not have the depth Mitchell has, there are some teams in West Tennessee that have some very strong contenders in events Mitchell has dominated.
  6. We brought up this issue when we came back from the Best of The West Tournament in California. They use the shot clock in California, we thought it really helped our team. If you looked at the scores in the TSSAA State tournament, on the most part they were very low. Most of the teams that got any type of a lead went into their delay or control games. Some would call that good coaching, I call it boring! I believe we should be consistent with the college game and AAU basketball.
  7. Dear "WannaBLikeBeech", If you didn't think that the Lady Warriors of BTW were not a challenge to LA in their quarter-final game, I question your basketball knowledge. Sometimes fans speak with their hearts instead of their brains. My take on that game was that the winner would probably play Upperman for the title. Marshall County as good as they may be, are very vulnerable to pressure defense, which LA is very good at. If LA goes a little deeper in their bench, and keeps constant pressure on Marshall County, I don't believe the game will be as close as some think. Going back to the BTW game, if you were there, you know that game could have gone either way!
  8. DOES WEST TENNESSEE HAVE AN EXEMPTION FROM THE TSSAA WHEN THEY PLAY THEIR REGIONAL GAMES? I THOUGHT THE DATES AND TIMES WERE ALREADY SET IN STONE. FRIDAY AT 7:00 P.M. FOR GIRL'S QUARTER-FINALS, AND SATURDAY AT 7:00 P.M. FOR BOYS QUARTER-FINALS.
  9. Booker T. Washington H.S. of Memphis Boys are 21-1, the girls are 23-5 going into tonight's game at Trezevant. 44-6!!
  10. We use this format to break ties. 1. Head to head competition 2. How teams did against next highest seed. 3. Won - Loss record against teams in your classification. 4. Overall Won - Loss Record 5. Coin toss.
  11. Well the team is off, and we are about to get a measuring stick to see how good we really are. Hopefully I can get some words on how the game is going throughout the game. So if any your kind people would post information about how the game is going or went for us who where unable to attend, it will be greatly appriciated.
  12. This message is for all the haters on Memphis girls basketball. Anyone who truly loves this great game of basketball will recognize a good basketball team when they see one. The Hillcrest girls basketball team are an awesome team! The fans who complain about officating must have not been around when our team played Covington several years ago and they shot 52 free throws to our 13. Many of the Memphis coaches are now keeping their athletes together on AAU or tour teams in the summer. It's something the boys have done for years. The days of West Tennessee teams dominating the Sectional (sub-state) games are no more. We're getting better because we're working harder. If you look at the AA girls brackets, Hillcrest has a very good chance of making it to the finals. Jackson Northside must get past Austin-East first; that should be a great game. Hillcrest will win it all. They are too talented, too quick. P.S. Hillcrest did not pull their starters against us in the Regional finals. The game was closer than the final score indicated. Our team is dominated by freshmen and they played like freshmen our final two games.
