  1. I am so incredibly sick and tired of reading about this subject. Alcoa has always accepted tuition students: when we won state championships in basketball and when we had losing seasons. As long as there has been an Alcoa High School (and Maryville High School), there have been tuition students. The only reason people are in such an uproar now (besides AHS & MHS being dominant in football) is that the privates have started playing with the publics and are whining about not being able to beat us in football. You don't hear us whining about golf, soccer, and tennis. That is definitely where the privates have the advantage, because to play those sports and to be good in them, you do have to "pay to play" through private lessons, course fees, and club teams. Think about it.
  2. We've played BT Washington a few times (always at our place), and, from what I've heard, the coaches and kids (for the most part) have been nothing but courteous and respectable. Even when they knew there was no way they were going to win, they did it for their football program. So, I'm not buying that every Memphis school is like that. I have never seen such a display of lack of discipline or unsportsmanlike conduct during a high school football game. And, PBS didn't help any by keeping the camera on their qb.
  3. Here are the facts: Rankin took out the starters during the 2nd quarter of the Elizabethton game due to concerns about our guys getting hurt or thrown out due to some dirty playing by Betsy. If that hadn't happened, he would've kept them in longer. During last night's game, our starters were in until there was just a few minutes left in the game. If the opponent is going to keep their starters in, I don't see anything wrong with the starters staying in. Greeneville fans: howdoitknow2 obviously knows nothing. I would've loved to have seen a matchup this year. It looks like we have very similar styles.
  4. That's exactly what I came on here to ask. I was embarrassed for them for the lack of discipline those guys showed toward the end. It made me mad that PBS continued to show the qb throwing his little tantrum. Congratulations, Greeneville! Way to bring another gold ball to E. Tn.!
  5. Too bad Alcoa & Greeneville didn't meet this year. It would've been a good game, for sure. Congrats again!
  6. Congratulations to Greeneville. I wonder if "the record" is something to really brag about. If you do it with your 2nd and 3rd string, that's one thing, but if you keep your starters in 'til the end or almost the end, that's just dumb (risking injuries and not giving your youngsters game experience).
  7. How sad is it that fans from the opposing team think that getting beat by 3 touchdowns and not being able to score a field goal, much less a touchdown, is a close game? The Huntingdon game back in '04 was the best championship game I've seen this decade. (I wasn't around for the 2000 game, so I can't compare). If it hadn't been for Guzzo's heart-stopping field goal, things may have turned out differently.
  8. I'm not believing that those linemen were 300 pounds. #55 maybe, but I'm not buying the others. I think GP needs to calibrate the scales. Condition those guys and have them lose a little weight and gain some muscle, and you might have some decent football players. #3 for GP was good; our guys definitely had problems tackling him. Will we be back at TTU next year? Don't know. Just basking in #12 right now. Congrats to the Tornadoes! And, to GP: Don't say we didn't warn you. And, the state championship was played 2 weeks ago...the semis and finals were just a formality.
  9. Hey, little boy: do your homework. Alcoa only has 1500 students Pre-K through 12th, so don't come on here crying about how big Alcoa is going to trounce on poor little GP. It's gameday, boys and girls! Heard an owl this morning; that means good luck!
  10. Oops...my bad. Senility creeping in. Fixed. I remember how well GP treated the boys. I'm pretty certain they didn't feel too badly about beating them like they did!
  11. Our record that year was 10-4. We got beat by William Blount and Oliver Springs that year. So, I would way we were below average in 03. Now, about '04... lol. Mr. Twister: I didn't think those smaller schools were around in 77. I thought they had already consolidated into Heritage.
  12. The boys didn't start getting to the 'boro the night before until Rankin started here. The schedule for them on Friday is: meet at school, do the pep rally at the high school, get on the bus, have the send off at the middle and elementary schools, then head down. With the drive only being 1 1/2 hours, there's no need for them to go down the day before. Heck, they've traveled longer to a district game (Thanks, TSSAA).
