  1. Memphis people always say what great players they have, every year Memphis has 8-10 Div. 1 prospects. Name 8-10 div 1 players that have come from Memphis the last 2 years. Don't include all of western tennessee or parts of Arkansas, just Memphis.

Also, Tennessee has their choice of players. They consider things like home life, GRADES, attitude, etc.

  2. If public school coaches are mad for losing their players to private schools then they should evaluate their own program. I have never heard of a student transfering because they loved their current program. Most of the time they leave an lessor program for a stronger one! If the public school system would pick up their game then the students would stay where they are! As far as an education their is no doubt private schools are better than public. Look at graduation rates, test scores, seniors going to college...private schools are simply better for a childs educational experience in east tennessee.

Basically no school can recruit directly but every school is recruiting indirectly with the success of their program. So if a coach wants to start getting "recruits" then they need to start winning games and make the players better in practice.

  3. I see many different opinions on this post and want to ask a question. If the transfer gets the opportunity to play ball in college because she transfered to a better program is that a bad thing?

The education she gets in high school will be the same at any of the private schools so really the transfer is only looking to continue her education in college while playing ball. is this a bad thing?

As an adult if you find a better job you change jobs! Why should a teenager not be allowed to better her self?

  4. Out of all of the girls named I would say Hall has the best chance of signing with a major Div. I school. The others will play in college but Hall has all of the skills needed for Div. I.

As far as Middle school players ??????

I've seen several (from Farragut, West Valley, cak, Halls, Webb, Farragut, Powell, etc...) that are pretty solid players but I don't think I've seen a stand-out. You know the player you watch and know she is going to be good.

  5. I applaud TN AAU for wanting to do more within TN. More SRT's would be nice and I like the idea of allowing more teams from sub-state to advance to state. However, we must be careful not to allow the state tourney to be lessened or de-valued by allowing less than qualified teams into tourney. Some sub-states in some age groups may have another few teams that can compete but some sub-states are not even full or have a big drop off in competition after the first two teams.

Also, some teams will not register for AAU regardless, choosing to play just locally while others like to just trophy hunt and complain about no competition. Some of the younger teams have many kids from the same school playing and this is fine too. In summary, no matter what TN AAU does some teams will still not participate for their own reasons. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have no problem with more SRT's, in fact I think that's a great idea. This would allow more teams from Tennessee to play at nationals. However, i don't think their should be more teams at the state. If more teams make it to state then the girls would have to play more games. If a team cannot finish in the top 2 in sub-state then how will they be competative at the state level?

  6. Sure by now all of you hyperctitcs that live in north Knoxville need to see the Shopper. There is KJ with a young football player attending there football camp this week. He talks about what a special place Halls is, how it is a good place to go to school, church, and play football. Now we know he is staying.

I want mention names but I saw two parents of football players last Friday and they said some negative things about the program (and there sons play there now). Hope they read this article and see that all is well!

If its in the shopper then it must be true!

  7. First off not all of us know who KCHS is.

Secondly while it may not be legal, how does it differ from the AAU teams in Basketball and Baseball? That is a question I have always wondered about. With AAU some teams manage to practice year round. Football does not have this luxuory, but SHOULD!

To answer your question, AAU is not regulated by T$$AA so they can practice everyday of the year if they desire. If their was an AAU football program they to could practice when ever they wanted.

  8. If he does that would be a huge mistake because Halls has not been good in quite a few years. Atleast if he's at Union County he gets to play against great competition and have a chance of winning. If all those kids stay at UC then they've got a good shot at 3rd in that district maybe even 2nd.

I understand that Tyler will be attending Anderson Co. Does that make them district favorites?

  9. That's all about $$$$, but I agree it's not fair.

It's always about the money!!! However, if your one of the best teams in the state you will make it to the state tourney reguardless if we have 4 or 6 divisions.

In my opinion Tennessee hands out way to many golden balls!

Their should be 2 divisions----small and big, but then how would t$$aa make any money?

  10. Thanks for proving my point about your credibility and showing your true motives.

1moreopinion it looks like your statement was wrong about him leaving, you know thats how gossip gets started so please don't make statements that are't true.

I agree catcall09, Clinton is a tough way to start the season! I also agree that Julian needs a quick start or he could be in trouble. Many parents aren't a big fan of the wing-T and were unhappy with the play calling last year!

If the quarterback was looking at transfering who could blame him. Under the wing -T the qb gets no pub and with the whole Julian ordeal i could understand him wanting out.

  11. I'll be the first to stir it up:

    Avant, Lausanne, Tennessee

    Butler, Gibson County

    Crouch, Hillsboro, Xavier

    Fussell, Obion

    Graves, Clarksville

    Hall, Morristown West

    Jefferson, Lavergne

    Newsome, Millington

    Robinson, Overton

    Whiteside, Memphis Central

    CDJA what are your 10?

Very good list and i don't know who you would remove but i think you have to include Taylor Mills from Gibbs. She is having a great AAU season and getting some good coverage on espn hoopgurlz.

  12. You posted a statement about what you heard and then ask for confirmation. Either someone is trying to pull your chain or you are trying to pull everyone else's. Either way, that is how gossip begins and you know it.

You must have been trying to provoke unrest with your statements/questions much like the newest question.

But from what I understand, He never "left." If there was an offer, it was resended before he could accept it. Nearly every coach will test the market from time to time. Coach Julian would be silly not to seek out his best earning potential.

I have been told that the players' morale and expectations are very high.

Trying "to provoke unrest"? I would say the fact that your coach wanted to leave but his offer fell though would cause "unrest"

And to clear it up their was an offer and he accepted it, he was leaving Halls! I dont blame him for trying to better his life for himself and his family. I was simply stating that he was in fact leaving Halls and many parents wanted him forced out.

And i doubt if 40 kids were at each work out, is their even 80 kids on the team?

  13. Interesting post from someone who usually hangs around threads about Clarkrange. I am not sure how credible these comments are.

    But....

My football playing neighbor (a freshman) told me that about 40 were working out in the mornings and around 40 more in the evenings. 80 is a lot different than 15. I think there was only about 15 or 20 there (QB's and Rec.) last Tuesday night for running routes and stuff when I went to walk on the track. I was told that this was voluntary and freshmen were not part of the group invited.

The same neighbor also told me that Dowdy was there the last day before the dead period. (Last Thursday) That would be odd to see someone transfer right before his senior season and just when he had become the starting QB.

Thats why they were posted as questions and not statements, sounds like you have the inside scoop! How did the players respond to Julian leaving and then coming back? did it hurt morale?

  14. I think you may be right about the size. With few exceptions, Halls looked small in the spring game. The O-line will be the big question mark this year. If they can make some small holes, our RB's will find them. I have no idea who the starting line will be. I have heard that #79 and #50 will be there. They have good size and strength. I have also heard that #56 will start. He is strong but not very big. Who else is in the running to start? I think we need some soph. and jun. to step up.

I heard the QB, Dowdy is leaving for Oak Ridge. Can anyone confirm that.

i also heard that summer workouts were not be attended by many people, as few as 15 people were showing up on a good day.

  15. The average girls on this team will not be playing. Their positions were just taken.

Now, what do you do if you are the parents of one of the current Clarkrange players who will no longer be able to get playing time? Do you go to the expense, hassle, etc to move because your daughter has always wanted to play high school basketball? Is it fair that they have to make that decision because of parents who live in another school zone?

This is a great question! What will the child do when they get a job and an employee transfers in from another company and takes their promotion because the new employee is more qualified?

The child can either work harder to get better or move schools! In my opinion she should stay where shes at and work hard in practice and on her own and get better. Practicing against better players in practice will make her better. And while shes at practice she needs to compete at everything...push the "starters" to new limits. Not everone can be the star! We all have roles in life and we each have to learn our roles!

College coaches will take a bench player from a successful program/team over a good player from a poor team because they know the "bench" player knows how to compete and they know that they earned ever minute of playing time they got from hard work!

Look at this as a blessing and not a curse!

In the end its just high school basketball and it will not be a defining moment in her life!

  16. The school can pay the team fee. Each camper needs to pay the individual fee.

However, almost all schools get around this rule by using "booster club" money to pay for team and individual camps. This is not a penatly as long as the check doesn't come from the school.

The same rule applies to schools that feed their teams before games. The stuff is "donated" or payed for by the booster club.

  17. why would some young lady not want to play for clarkrange play for one of the winningest coaches in state history and have a chance to win a state title? maybe the players and parents see it as the best oppurtunity for the girl to get better and have a chance of playing beyond high school!

    Exactly correct!

Why would quality players not want to play for the best coach/school they can? This is not recruiting it is simply parents putting their kid in the best possible situation to be successful on the court. Academically the schools are equal so why not when a few championships while getting an education and possibly getting a free college education from it!

  18. Well, I really couldn't either(on forming my own team). LOL This really is about these girls wanting to play basketball, but when they say they can't for Wes, then that's enough for me and I would guess the others parents as well. To be perfectly honest, I have really been thinking about how nice a Myrtle Beach trip would be at Thanksgiving, LOL, when your kid plays ball if you don't know that is out of the question. TOURNAMENTS!!! FORGET THE HOLIDAYS AND FAMILY!!! So at least for us it is about putting our kids well being first and being there for support. Playing ball or not!!! #2 I think I could answer your question but I won't. And the other answer, "Coach" Wright was out of there (maybe he had poop in his pants) LOL My husband is pretty slow to anger, but you know what they say opposites attract. LOL

Good luck with your new team!

    Perhaps you could play Unaka????

  19. Once again, facts NOT straight!!! Coach Wright, as you call him, came to a boosters meeting and yes he brought his wife and child with him, I don't know if that is a common practice for a coach or not, it was a first for us(parents). We were taking care of our business, when he (Wright) said he wanted to say something, and he did, he commented he no longer had need for the parents, or the boosters club, that HE was disbanding it and he and his mother-in-law would be taking over the fundraising. Well, you surely might, or might not, understand why these redneck parents that YOU have called us may be a tad bit upset. HE fired the parents of the girls who were playing for him, but You said it "in order to gain respect, you must give respect". He said his say, but when he was ask questions, as I stated in MY previous posts he ran like a scalded dog, yes, it was MY husband who went out the door, and NO NOT CHASED HIM OUT, but ask him to put the BIG BOY pants on and come back in and talk to US (REDNECKS as YOU have called us) like ADULTS!!! Now, yes this is on video, but remember, a video without the sound of words can say a million things, it can even get rid of someone if thats what someone wants it to say. And, also FYI, several of these girls that are NO longer playing ball, their parents(NOT THERE) (I am a UNAKA graduate) graduated from ELIZABETHON, my husband for one, does that excuse them from being a REDNECK MR E-TOWN 06??!!! And personally, I really don't care what his buns look like. And one more thing, he had parental support, but he didn't want it, and I do KNOW for a FACT that parents did try to talk to him and he didn't care what anyone had to say. And while HE was still in diapers, I was being taught and old saying "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND". As you have pointed out, he has a child and he won't like it either when what is going on with his kid someone makes the STUPID remark "thats not your business", well let me tell you and whoever else, when you have laid in labor for 26 1/2 hours (and had your own child) then YOU or whoever can tell me how protective or how much say I have with what goes on and how it effects MY DAUGHTER(S). And with that being said it will take more than some coach to make me POOP in My Pants as YOU put it.

So basically your husband chased after him in anger and you wonder why he doesn't want the "parents" involved? Just because you gave birth gives you no right to be involved on the basketball court, perhaps you should form a 16u Jr. pro. Team?!!?!??!
