  1. Gordonsville had no answer for #2 or #7. #2 was touched in the backfield every time he touched the ball, yet he would get yardage.

Our Oline had trouble moving the big D line, so it was hard to run the ball at times.

It should never have been this close, neither should last been as close as well. Our biggest downfall, in my mind is we didn't tackle well, and that kept it close.

A lot of people who are born here and play here, stay here so the same bloodlines run through the football program so there’s a lot of expectation to be good on Friday nights from the generation before

We are also blessed with a lot of high quality men coaching our youth, jr high and high school teams. Great community support and our administration are great when it comes to supporting all of our sports programs.

I would like to hear @croz6110’s opinion on this

I think much of it is the emphasis put on football here. But, from what I could tell, that didn't happen until Coach Ford came back to Gville. Now, when he came back, we had some real football players. From the late 70s to the late 80s, we had some tuff ones.

i think a tradition of toughness was started then that a lot of teams don't have. however, we're not as tough as we used to be, but then again, I don't believe anybody is.

  3. I haven't been to every game this year, but this seems like we played more to our potential, even with some starters out.

The run game was there on the first drive, then Forrest sold out to stop the run, and anything we wanted to do in the pass game was there.

Hancock looked good while wearing Gentry's jersey, and we were without the starting RB/LB the whole 2nd half. #22 and #27 filled in well, and I'm hoping we see them in the backfield at the same time next year.

For whatever reason Forrest continually had lanes on their sweeps, and #25 was hard to tackle. I'm not sure why he didn't get the ball more. I feel like if we had sold out more to stop the run, the pass game wouldn't have worried me at all.

If ER would use more of their athletes they would be much better offensively in games against teams that can keep you off the scoreboard when you hand the ball to the same guy everytime, up the middle...

Just throw flags the rest the game as well...

I was getting ready to post the exact same thing, especially getting the other Groves kids more involved.

Also, I don't know if I've ever seen a team this undisciplined. That's on the coaches.

How many games do they have left

They play Gville's Jr. High next week. Both are undefeated. Looking at common opponents, Gville should have the edge.

As far as this game Friday, I've heard we have a few sitting, not sure. But I still like our chances, we need it in a big way.

I'm also convinced that Satterfield is putting emphasis on this game to keep the win streak against Gville on the creekbank alive.

Reading over the Smith County / gville  boards last week some claimed that because gville  had won I believe 3 of the last 5 or something like that they had dominated the series. If we’re looking at recent history, going by gville poster’s standards, then what does that say for this series? Not much of a rivalry as I see it. Unless this week we’re going by the whole history of the series?

Nobody insinuated dominance on Gville's part. Either side will invoke the overall history of the series compared to the recent history to fit their talking points.

Fwiw, going forward, I think the H2O- Gville series will see H2O possibly widening the gap between the two teams due to H2Os increasing enrollment while the Gville -SC series will become more even as they get closer in enrollment.

    2017 - 20-0 WHS

    2018 - 48-8 WHS

    2019 - 19-13 WHS

    2020 - 14-7 WHS

    2021 - 9-16 GHS

    2022 - 28-13 WHS

    2023 - 17- 6 WHS

Is this series even a rivalry anymore? The most points G-Ville has scored on WHS the last 8 years is 16 points and I am pretty sure 7 of those points came from the punter dropping a snap in the endzone. Some things never change and they will not change Friday. Watertown - 17 Gordonsville/Carthage - 6.

If it's not a rivalry, then why all the talk of Hackett seemingly putting more prep in for this week?

As far as some things never changing, actually they have. Gville had owned this rivalry for 30 years until H2O built the new school and went up in enrollment.

Regardless, it's a good gate for both teams, and it will be a good game. I believe Gville wins.
