  3. Where are those 10 players "ranked higher than the list" playing in college??? It might help get your toes of you mouth or be cause for full insertion. It's time for someone to start a new tread with this year's college commitments. Might as well let this be the catalyst.
  4. I tried to post shortly after you commented on Carmen, but I have just been reading and not ranting for some time. As a result, I could not get my post to send. If this does in fact hit the message board, I'm back!!!!! I could not agree with you more regarding Carmen. My daughter, now in college, played with her for 2 years in high school and I saw every game. I saw many of Carmen's junior year and a few of her Sr. year. Last year she was BOP and All-State. She has won many accolades and always worked her rear off in every assignment. As someone else said on the All-state thread "hanky-panky" enters the picture sometimes. At the risk of having to re-enter my anger management therapy, I will stop there. She's a great girl and should have been recognized. I hope she keeps in the game and plays at the next level. I hear she has opportunities and congratulate her for having options. In keeping with old dog traditions, I don't think there is a Coach Irby. Was that a slip of the tongue??? Coach Wolff is the Houston coach and is one of the hardest workers out there trying to build a championship squad every year. Look's like he's got it working. Congratulates to Houston as well.
  5. Ditto . . . . . . for now ???
  6. I don't understand either.....especially why St. Georges' would have 3 and Ensworth 0. Don't know the players, so I'm not saying they are not deserving. Same with MBA. Some of it can be a "body of work" ie. strong player for several years. If it is like Girls Soccer, which is where I really come from, the players are nominated by the coaches. If he doesn't serve a name up, they can't get a vote, or if each school nominates 5, obviously we can't have 25 winners. So the voters must choose from their best guess and the ones they have seen. Or at least one hopes that's the case. Maybe someone can tell up how they do it for boys basketball. I don't think there is a regional bias in the voting, but it is tilted to the west this year.
  7. Congrates to Kris and glad I did slip into a catch up mode.
  8. Having spent the past few months watching Boys HS Basketball, I must now say that Soccer Refs have moved from the bottom of the food chain to one step up from the bottom. It's hard to watch good soccer when the refs don't let it happen and thus you have to focus on the problem. You have no right to tell Canes, "you really have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to officiating"as you have no idea of his knowledge and some of us on here agree with his point # 6. He might have had 7 kids playing soccer and thus sees more games in a week than you do, or he is a ref and is picking on himself, or he has played at every level for the past 20 years and actually does know what he's talking about. Obviously, he does not need me to defend him, nor do you need me to dis soccer ref's, but the only one defending the officiating is "socref1". Don't take it personally, you just maybe the one good ref that is not part of the pack that causes us to be critical.

  11. Hey G, glad you posted the link. I don't need to say anything negative, because almost all of it is in the responses I read.
  12. Not really, 12 girls will get 12 scholarships at 12 schools of their choice. There is only one Heisman winner, but every player, every coach, everybody knows their name, record and most have seen them play. I would only hope the Penn coach was more knowledgeable of high school awards and I actually bet he/she is. Why did he speak to my daughter in the first place if he did not know her talent and history. Don't misunderstand, I too wish there was one true "All-State Team" and my daughter could be very, very proud to have made that. I would be okay, if she was 2nd team all-state or third team all-state, but TN does not do it that way. Why they think there are 5 all-state Division IV (camo to protect the innocent) GK's is beyond me. Lets have 6 or let's have 4 or have a different number each year. I really don't think anyone is hurt by the numbers and many gain a benefit. The girls that truly excel get more that one award for their resume and when the Penn coach asks my daughter about the other girls, I hope she can say it was my third year to be recognized as well all region and EVP of this event and all tournament team of that event and so on........... While 5 or 7 or 12 may be all-state, they are not all equal in their abilities, but equal in the recognition. Let's be proud for them and let the Penn coach make his decision on their total package, including academics, of which my daughter is not "all-state".
  13. Congratulations to all those honored!!!! Your old buddy Canes will tell us that there should only by 11. I wish we could have an elite, super superior, "State All-Star" team, but that's just not possible with the numbers of schools, divisions and players. I actually am glad to see random numbers (I guess) in each position. I hate to see someone left out because of a pre-established limit. I am sure some deserving players (in some minds) are not on the list, but it looks like it is weighted toward post season players and teams and that is usually the case. It is where the most voters can see the most players and, while not perfect, there may just be no other way.
  14. I thought I was safer with magic dust until I heard what happened to you in Collierville. The license plate was personalized, "Canes". The Police report read: A man was driving when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding. Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed. Now he began to think that this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera again flashed. He tried a fourth time with the same result. He did this a fifth time and was now laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past, this time at a snail's pace. Be aware that you will be getting five tickets in the mail for driving without a seat belt. Don't drive and do dust.
