  7. seven777, I have sat back and read your posts a number of times and I understand you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. However I want to just clarify some things. First I do not coach football at white co. I actually coach baseball. I want to begin by explaining a few things to you about athletes. Yes it takes more than just one athlete to win a ball game no matter what sport you play. However these three young men are not just athletes they are what is called playmakers. Playmakers are different than just great athletes. These are the guys when you get the ball in their hands they make something happen. Now I understand we have several other great players on this team and with experience they will be great playmakers. As for the lack of discipline, I have not seen any sign of this. However you were obviously sitting closer than I was so I am sure you may have seen some frustration come out in some of the players. Although understand you are talking about 14-18 year old kids and sometimes they let their emotions get the best of them. I do understand and agree totally that this can not continue to happen in order for us to be successful. I am sure the coaches have handled the situation. Not every punishment is given for all the fans to see. Sometimes it is handled inside the locker room. So be careful what you say about the coaches unless you are with them inside as well. Finally I want to make a few comments on all of our boys. I want to begin by saying that I coach JJ in baseball and the accusation that he doesn't want to play is CRAZY. This kid is so competive. He always wants to be on the field. Now I understand sometimes his emotions clouds his judgement. But this is something that he is working hard on I promise you. This young man doesn't want to be rememeberd by the guy who was always in trouble. He really is working hard. Secondly losing Jr. is a major blow. Yes the line opens holes for him but you have to look at yards after contact. Even though there are holes does not mean the secondary is being blocked. Jr. has the ability to run people over and that is what makes him so dangerous. Rhett is another young man that just makes plays. He gets out there and gives everything he has makes things happen. To me Rhett is the heart and soul of this team this year. He is our #2 reciever, punter, and defensive back. He is always around the ball and losing someone like that hurts your team no matter what you have to say. Finally I want to end by saying that their are other outstanding athletes on this team that don't get the recognition they deserve. It takes complete unity for this to work. One bad apple ruins the whole bunch. And far as I can see right now you're our bad apple. Don't put these boys down lift them up. Last week was a great win for a team that lost so much the previous two weeks. Either stand behind them or don't show up to the games. Win or lose they are still OUR WARRIORS and we have to stand behind them. Go get them warriors. Just keep in mind not everyone is putting you down some of us are right behind you no matter what. And one final note Warrior coaches we support you and appreciate what you have done with this program. I know how hard it can be but keep your head up and ignore the downers.
  8. I agree that kids should play more than one sport if they are talented enough to do so. But looking at it from a coache's viewpoint, I want to see my kids reach their goals and dreams. I know that baseball is not a prime time sport where they get all the attention, especially where I'm from, so I encourage them if they are good enough to play basketball and football. The only real problem that I have with it is some coaches are forcing these kids to choose to do one or the other. That is a shame! They are still kids. High school athletics have become to competitive between programs inside of their own schools. Luckily right now we have coaches, where I'm from, that are standing beside each other and allowing these athletes to play more than one sport. But I have seen it come down to where coaches didn't allow it to happen and that is a shame. Ok one final note to all the multi-sport athletes out there though. The real problem I think we don't see more is it is so demanding in every sport but if you are going to play football, basketball, and baseball, remember that in baseball it takes more time to get your arm in physical condition, especially if your a pitcher, so be sure to take some time to throw after basketball practice, wether it be with some buddies outside of the gym or going to the ball field and long tossing. Please keep your arms in shape. It has been my experience that those who take the time to throw in the off season will be more sucessful and have less arm troubles. Just something to think about.
  9. I would have to say the Cookeville vs. Sparta rivarly is pretty big. It doesn't always post the greatest games but it is always intense. Being from Sparta and now coaching in Sparta I must say records don't matter when these two teams meet. It is always a battle and you never know who might come out on top.
  10. Coaches if any of you are looking for a Tournament White Co. will be hosting one March 24th-26th. We currently have 3 teams and we are looking for more teams. If you are interested you can post it here or call Coach Steve Wilson at 931-738-9238 (days) 931-761-7898 (nights) or Coach Shaun Floyd at 931-935-2359 (days) 931-738-9801 or 931-273-5857
  11. Hey guys I don't know how white county will do with Mitchell as the new coach, but I do know that you can't complain unless you know the facts. I don't know all that happened with Coach Slatten. I was neither a follower or complainer of his. He did some great things and from what I can tell has a great talent in coaching however I do know that he does not communicate with his players well. They didn't respect him for whatever reason. Please don't bash white county because a few. The boys on the team are the only ones that have a right to complain. I agree that white county may not have supported him as much as we should have. But I know that unless you communicate with your players and support them and have respect for them then they are not going to respect you. Whatever happens in the future in the basketball program I will be there to support them just as i have been in the past, no matter who the coach is...
  12. Trust me disgustedfan, that was really early in the game and was compeltely unintenional. I'm not looking for revenge. Why would I want to revenge a stiuation like this. It can only continue to get worse with revenge. However let me say this, I am not in any way holding Alcorn at fault. As I said before he is a classy kid. What started the whole thread is I wanted to know why would anyone throw at someone when you are up by several runs. I don't even remeber the exact number. To me this is trying to show the other team up. However I will give you that maybe Alcorn was not on. I can truely believe that he did not have his best game. Obviously he is a great pitcher, beating Riverdale, Oakland, and Blackman going 9 innings. So it is possible he wasn't on. However his control wasn't that bad all night long. Consider this for just a min. Is it not possible, maybe he was told to hit him. I am only going on what I know. What I know is this. First the pitch immediately following the homerun was behind his head and it went all the way to the backstop and it was fastball. Secondly the next pitch hit him, also a fastball. Now I know that both could have been accidental. But I also know that at the end of that inning, I went to the restroom. While I was there two of Cookeville's players, who I happen to know both of them, came in and were laughing. One of the players made the comment that it was hilliarous that he nailed the kid after the homerun. The other player made the comment well I guess that will teach them a lesson about hitting homeruns off of our ace. And the finial comment was I am glad that Alcorn done what he was told to do. I also have witness to these comments who does not play for us or has a child on the team. He walked out with me and shook his head and said I can't belive that someone would do that. Now if you say it was an accident, fine I will believe you. I understand that you are just defending your team but answer me this one, Why would a team, who is knocking the far out of the baseball, steal home when they are up by 8 runs in the 5th? Is that not possible trying to show the other team up? Is that not possible trying to run rule them to show off a little? I might be able to understand it if your team is not hitting and the other team is hitting the ball well. You could try to get another run that way but at that time in the game when it did happen in the tournament Cookeville had 16 runs off of 16 hits, and Sparta had 8 runs on 7 hits. So tell me why would any coach steal home on a double steal, or pick off whatever you want to call it, when your team is up by that much. That to me is rubbing it in my face!! In my opinion that showed no class what so ever! As I have said once before I have no problem with the players, I believe it is all coming from the dugout!
  13. Hey Blue, What part of the story did I leave out??? I told nothing but the truth. If you have a question or a different opinion then ask it. I didn't start the thread cause we lost. That was not a concern of mine. It was over and done with. I was only concerned with the safety of my players. If that makes me a bad coach then so be it. I am not a sore loser. I am able to admit when a team out played us, not make excuses. I also want to point out that I never said it was Cookeville's pitchers decision. I believe the kid is a class act. He does appear to be a great kid. My personnal feelings is that it came from the dugout!!! So Hey Blue if you want to bad mouth me then post your feelings on the situation and I'll be happy to comment on them. And to answer your question about the revenge, hey you guys hit the baseball. What can I say you out played us. Congrats on the win and good luck the rest of the tourn. I would love to see you all make it all they way. Also let me add that I don't have any problem with any of the kids that play for Cookeville. I know several of these kids, cause I went to Cooperstown with them when they were 12 and umpired a tournament up there. So I have no problems with the kids. Good luck Cookeville players, I wish nothing but the best for you.
  14. According to yesterday's paper Coach Eric Mitchell recieved the Boys head coaching job at White Co.
  15. Hey no prob. Oakland2001 I believe a man should be given a chance to defend himself before an arguemnet erupts. I do have to agree with you we are by far the low man on the totem pole. We haven't proved our worth in the district or the district tourney. As a matter of fact I can't recall the last time we actually won a district tourney game. I just want to make sure we do recieve some respect for what we have done. Until we actually prove ourself with a win I guess you can make that statement. But thank you for showing us some respect. We just have to prove ourselves this weekend. See you tomorrow night.
