  1. That’s a great statement. Some guys are excellent OC or DC coaches or can really connect and thrive as a position coach. But the HC job can sometimes be a little bit more difficult. And it takes a special person to coordinate and handle everything that goes along with it. Having administration that cares about the program, a great AD, boosters club, support of local businesses in the community and a fan base that supports their team can take a lot off of a HC and help him to focus more on the X’s and O’s. When the coach has to worry about how to pay for everything, do the laundry, stress over his athlete’s well being away from school AND football, it can be extremely stressful.
  2. I can’t believe anyone has not mentioned this yet! The weather forecast for Saturday morning is currently calling for an 80% chance of rain with temps in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. For a team like Upperman who can rely mainly on the run game, does that help them by limiting the PC offensive capabilities? What affects could this have on each team? Let’s hear it guys. What say you?!
  3. Wasn’t that Walker Martinez last season?! Martin had kryponite called Greeneville! He never made it past the quarterfinals.
  4. Mr Football is loosing its luster. I’m still trying to figure out how Bryson Rollins at Elizabethton didn’t get one? Dude had the stats every year and only lost two games as a 3 year starter! Two titles and a very hard fought runner up. Kinda hard to argue the 2020 award when your teammate (Parker Hughes) wins it. But he didn’t even make the final cut the other two years? I’m not sure the 2019 winner was the best WR/DB either. Hughes had better individual stats that season too. And I really don’t think it should matter if it’s a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior. If you got the goods, you should get the prize. Sorry to highjack this thread.
  5. Maybe an independent, third party needs to come up with an award? And let the bias be done with.
  6. EXACTLY! That game plan by Witten was the difference in that game. Gudger couldn’t hurt us standing on the sidelines. But give the Bees credit. They stuffed the G-Men run game. And the Devils didn’t start trying to throw it more until it was way too late. Just got out coached. Again.
  7. PC does look the part and check all the boxes. But like I said last week. This is why you play the game. Anything is possible and it not only comes down to size and speed but game planning and in game adjustments. Greeneville never adjusted their D last week and just kept getting beat up by the run game. (2 tight end, RB, HB and running QB with size against a 4 man front?). I think it speaks less to the success of the Bees and more to the coaching deficiencies of the Devils. Don’t get me wrong. The Bees earned it! I just wasn’t impressed by the Greene staff. And it’s this kind of behind the scenes stuff that makes the game fun to watch or agonizing depending on which side of the stands you sit.
  8. After watching the game Friday at G-Vegas, I’m inclined to grab a couple of milk jugs and Bb’s and head on down to Chattanooga Friday night. I’m stealing that by the way. Way louder than cowbells and less expensive. I can’t wait to try them out next season on some BD fans. Good luck Bees. Let’s keep that Gold ball in the East! Continuing the prayers too.
  9. Like I said, at this point, coaching comes into play. And after both staffs got out coached in 2021 by Witten, the coach that learned the lesson turned out to be Adam Caine. Perfect game plan and excellent player execution. This is the second time in three years the Geenedevils have lost the same way. Watching the other teams run the ball, control the clock and keep the Greene O safe and sound on the sideline where they can’t do you any harm. Phenomenal game U. Now, don’t let beating Greeneville be the highlight of your season! There’s so much more to come. Congratulations gentlemen. We will see you in Chatty Town next weekend.
  10. Kinda like Gudger back in 2021. He was a non factor after being a lightning rod for that team all season. Both teams were pretty one dimensional, except for the final drive for the Devils, but the Bees were better on D. It was a great game.
  11. I was at the game tonight. It was fantastic. It was shades of 2021 when Betsy ran the ball down Greeneville’s throat, played more physical ball and in the process, managed to keep the Devil’s offense on the sideline, where they could only watch their season tank. Part of me thinks the Devils were looking past this game, as if the Bees were just gonna come in and lay down for them. And when the Bees punched back after early adversity, the Devils didn’t seem to know what to do. My hats off to Adam and the coaching staff for having their young men prepared and ready and having a great game plan. Not only was Greeneville out played, they were obviously out coached. Again. We are considering traveling down next weekend to cheer the Bees on. The East needs to bring it home again. On a serious note, praying for the entire Upperman family.
  12. 14-7 Bees. Two more quarters for a chance at State. Can the Bees hang for 2 more quarters or does the Devils off season weight program kick in late? A stop and Bees score would surely help out. I think the Devils are stunned. Can the coaches snap them out of it? And will the Devils fans ever do more than just sit and watch?! Great game so far.
  13. Has anyone heard about any transfers about to happen over the Christmas break? This is like the high school equivalent of “early signing day”. Officially , Signing Day is after the school year. LOL let the rumors begin…..
  14. Elizabethton’s game plan was simple. Run Bryson as many times as it takes. Eat up clock. Keep our defense on the sideline and keep Gudger on his. He can’t hurt us watching from the side. And yes. That was one heck of a grab. I thought he was throwing it away. Surprised the heck out of me when he caught it. And injuries do suck, but they are just a part of the game. In 19, Rollins played with a torn maniacs from the first Greeneville game on. Had surgery after the season and missed baseball. In 20, he pulled a hamstring in the Central game, sliding to avoid contact! If you go look at the stats in those first two playoff games, he ran the ball maybe 5 times. Total. One reason to move Parker Hughes to RB to get him more touches. And if I remember right, in 19, Youngblood was pretty banged up in the playoff game too. Those dudes were all ballers and a joy to watch.
  15. WORDS OF CAUTION: In 2021, Greeneville was undefeated and Ranked #1 in 4A. They ended Elizabethton’s 31 game winning streak by defeating them at their house 44-12. A BEAT DOWN! Fast forward to the quarter finals. The Cyclones come in to Burley Stadium in G-Vegas as considerable underdogs. Yet, walk away with a 13-7 victory. Coaching and player execution of a brilliant game plan can be the difference. PC looks the part. Greeneville looked the part. Tullahomma looked the part in 2020. Ask them about their rematch with Nolensville in the quarters. The next two weeks, anyone can win. Haywood, Pearl Cohn, Greeneville and Upperman all have a legitimate shot at that Gold Ball. I expect the team with the best game plan and execution of that plan will win. When you get to this point, coaching is a factor. Mostly, you can’t just out talent a team anymore. It takes a complete effort from the top down to achieve the goal. Let’s see which staff has the goods and can guide their teams to glory. Josh Puckett, Tony Brunetti, Eddie Spradlen and Adam Caine. Good luck gentleman.

  17. They tried to play DB and Alcoa but the games were stopped due to weather. Neither one was completed. So they WERE on the schedule. Why you think they have only played 11 games.
  18. Playing Elizabethton and Greeneville will give the coaches an idea of what it takes to push through. I’m sure they are better prepared for this game than they were last time when they played Betsy. There’s no substitute for that big game experience. They are were we were after moving up in class in 2017. We had good teams in 17 and 18 but ran into the two best teams Greeneville has ever had and two really good Anderson County teams. The coaches realized it was going to take more. The players were challenged. And they made a commitment. Player ran 6:30am workouts started every morning before school the week following their second round loss to AC. We had 2020 pegged as our year. It came early in 2019. So, you never know. The old saying is true. “That’s why we play the game!”
  19. Don’t fret! Betsy went 0-6 in quarterfinals before breaking through. It’s frustrating. But when you get it, it’s wonderful! Until you don’t get it. And it’s frustrating again! And YES! Give them boys a new stadium! The field house could be called the Hive. The end zones can be honeycombed with alternating colors. The student section can be called the Swarm. Tons of possibilities here!
  20. State Championship 2017-Greeneville 15-0 (East) 54-14 over Springfield 2018-Greeneville 15-0 (East) 56-21 over Haywood 2019-Elizabethton 15-0 (East) 30-6 over Springfield (Springfield crossed the 50 1 time) 2020-Elizabethton 15-0 (East) 41-14 over Haywood 2021-Tullahoma 15-0 (West) 21-14 over Elizabethton (2 OT) (7-7 end of regulation) 2022-Anderson County 15-0 (East) 34-30 over Pearl Cohn in 4A….up till now….yes. Maybe PC will have something to say about it this season.
  21. Let’s see. We played Springfield and Haywood in 2019 and 2020. Beat them both for Gold Balls. Lost in double OT to Tullahoma in 2021 the week after beating the Bees. So we’ve played a few West teams. It’s not going to happen often for us when we’re located in the far eastern portion of the state. Way too far to travel. Region 3 is about our limit. Going to Rhea County was a haul in 2022. Would love to be able to schedule one of those West teams. It just gets old playing the same teams every season. Variety is a good thing. Logistically though, wouldn’t fly.
  22. You ARE mistaken. Anderson County beat PC in the state championship last season. Do you even follow high school football??? And I have watched Upperman and PC this season. On the UCR, YouTube and NFHS. (That dude on the UCR does a fantastic job by the way). AND why are you comparing the 2021 team to the 2023 team? Of course they don’t compare. For one, some of the players have cycled through and the Bees have more experience in the 4A ranks now. I’ve said nothing negative about this team. All I’ve said is I’d like to see them play a tougher schedule to make them more battle tested for the playoffs. If that ruffles your feathers then you are content with the status quo. PUSH for more. BE MORE! Set a standard above the one you’ve already set! Anderson County followed the path of Betsy and the Devils and beefed up their schedule. Their coach couldn’t say enough about how good it was for the team. I know. You played the schedule you have. It’s not your fault if a team is up or down or if some of your region games are blowouts. I get that. We all have that too. But, FOR YOUR FUTURE, I believe a beefier schedule would benefit them in the long run. I’ve yet to make a prediction because that seems to tick off a lot more people FAST. But, I can see this game being close for a half. After that, I think G-ville pulls away. That’s my gut. I’ve given the edge to the Bees in every playoff game till now. If I’m wrong, then I’m wrong. I’ll congratulate both teams on a fine season and wish one of them good luck in the state championship game and one good luck in basketball. I really can’t say much. My team has been out for two weeks now. At least you both are still playing. Hopefully we get decent weather, a clean game, no zebra drama and an exciting and entertaining game.
  23. Upperman- 378 for 125 against over 13 games comes out at 29.07/game and 9.61/game. Greeneville- 480 for 86 against over 11 games comes out at 43.63/game and 8.09/game. There you go. Those are the facts. And none of it really matters Friday night
  24. I hope Rollins can play well. He and my daughters boyfriend, Kaleb Holzer, played a lot of ball together before Kaleb moved. I hated seeing him injured. I think Kaleb is going with me to the game. His season/career ended at the Anderson County game a couple of weeks ago. And I know win or loose, he’d like to see his friends on both teams.
